joannepir -> 3rd grade readers (6/14/2008 9:50:15 PM)

I am looking for some good ideas for reading material/readers for my son who will be in 3rd grade next year. I usually like some historical fiction so we can learn history as well as reading. Does anyone have any good ideas on some interesting reading for him?
Thanks.

On the top of my "most recommended" list is Gary Paulsen's series called "The Tucket Adventure Series". Great historical fiction and very action-packed. All my kiddos absolutely loved it -- at all ages -- it's especially geared toward the 8-12 yo group, though.

GA Henty has some wonderful historical fiction which all my kids loved, too. You can check some of them out HERE. These are a little more "advanced" so might be better as read-aloud books. I guess it depends on his reading level. You might be able to find some of these at your local library.

Well, there's a start!!!

If you like the Little House books, I was given this website full of educational tidbits and activities to accompany the books.
