dbmurray -> RE: TOP 5 BALLOT OUT (6/14/2008 3:29:02 PM)

I like: Favorite Artist of the Year - Triumphant Quartet (Three male quartets vs. two male trios…should be an interesting race. I’m glad this award was added to the mix last year. Will the Booth Brothers repeat?) Mixed Group - Isaacs (I’m surprised they made it this far, but they’re clearly the most versatile group on the list.) Male Quartet - Triumphant Qt (Perhaps the addition of the GVB this year will take some of the momentum away from EH&SS. The question is whether or not Triumphant or L5 can generate more votes than the Inspirations.) Trio - Booth Brothers (With Greater Vision’s change this year at the tenor position, this category will be up to the Booth Brothers not to lose.) Soloist - Mark Lowry (No one can hold the audience in the palms of their hands like Mark Lowry.) Male Singer - Arthur Rice (It’s interesting that Arthur Rice was nominated as a finalist for the overall Male Singer award while failing to make the cut in the less competitive Lead Singer category. One would assume the two Booth Brothers will split their votes. The guy to beat is probably Gerald Wolfe.) Female Singer - Karen Peck Gooch (This should be a tight race with Gooch up against Sheri Easter, Kim Hopper, Janet Paschal and Libbi Stuffle.) Horizon Individual - Jeremy Lile (Lile seems like the obvious choice for this category. I will be very surprised if he isn’t the winner.) Horizon Group - Tribute Qt (This category is difficult to call. Tribute just lost their tenor singer. It’s difficult to gauge how big of a splash Crabb Revival and Aaron & Amanda Crabb are making, but they’ll split votes. The Crist Family is making a good impression at concerts right now, but then, so is Soul’d Out Quartet.) Young Artist - Josh Simpson Tenor - Brian Free (This should be a four way race if enough fans realize Waldroup is no longer with Greater Vision. This will be a close category with Ernie Haase, Archie Watkins, and Michael Booth facing Brian Free. Watkins will have the advantage as the established traditionalist vs. the “young guys.”) Lead - Ronnie Booth (This should also be a four way race, since Jonathan Wilburn is no longer with Gold City. I suspect this category should come down to Booth or Gerald Wolfe.) Baritone - Doug Anderson (I’d like to see someone other than Mark Trammell win this category, since he’s won it so many times in the past. Trammell is the clear favorite, but don’t forget that Rodney Griffin won it last year.) Bass - Eric Bennett Soprano - Lauren Talley Alto - Debra Talley Musician - Jeff Stice Songwriter - Kyla Rowland (I’d really like to see the fans recognize a non-artist. Of course, Rowland does sing with a group, but they aren’t on a major label. Ronny Hinson would be another good choice.) Album - Look No Further Song - The Great I Am Still Is (There were songs I liked better from last year, but unfortunately, none of those were nominated. This is a good song, though.)
