Szaftoo -> Question about country music? (6/14/2008 9:13:43 AM)

My husband has been looking for a CD that is a compilation of country music. He has been to several stores in our area and they all seem to be older songs and artists from years past. Are there any compilation CD's with current material? I would love to surprise him. Thanks.

Is this contemporary enough?

Vol. 2

Songs 4 Worship Country

I just did a search at Amazon for "country compilations" and found a series called "Totally Country" that seems to fit the bill, too.

You are both the best. I printed your suggestions and will go look today. Hopefully I can find something by tomorrow for Father's Day, if not I will order it online for later. Thanks again.

You should be able to find them, I would go to Best Buy if possible, because really those compilations aren't that popular and the smaller stores won't carry them, plus a lot of people are just dowloading the music they want nowadays .. you can look in the country section but sometimes they are in the misc section or by the soundtracks. (or the clearance area, lol). Target might sell the totally country set too.

The totally country series is pretty popular.

Miss Giggles (love that name), I tried Best Buy and they didn't have any for the same reasons you just gave. They had them but they were artists that recorded many years ago. I found a great CD there but discovered it was for Karaoke which I guess has music and no words.

Thanks, I will definitely check every section at Target.

Are we talking Christian country? Because I don't think that genre exists really. Sure, lots of country artists will sing about God and country, but does that really make them Christian artists? If you're looking for just regular old country, there's a ton of those compilations out there, but...why would you ask for advice about that on a Christian music forum? Just wondering...

He likes both Christian music by country artists and regular secular country music. I asked on a "Christian music forum" because secular music is also discussed here. Also, I doubt a believer would recommend something that would be objectionable.
Oh, my son bought him one that was recommended on this post and he loved it.

Yes there is a christian country music genre, this has been debated lots of times on this forum.. I am not going to repeat everything over and over.

Most of the country artists have grown up in the church.

I am not going to sit and debate their spirituality. Just look up the albums by Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Wynona, etc and decide for yourself.

Szaftoo, Glad your son found the cd and your husband enjoyed it [:D]

Holy moly! How could I have forgotten Randy Travis?! I only own three of his cd's! Sheesh, and Charlie Daniels has a couple of hymns cd's too. And Alan Jackson has one, with a dvd version, too.[sm=yummy.gif] <-----Closest I could come to a forehead smacking smiley.

I would suggest going to iTunes.....and "hand selecting" the tunes that you (or he) would really want.....

then, burn those onto a CD....

Thanks for the reply. I would like to get him more music but will have to have my son help me because I am "challenged" in that area. He wants the music for his IPod.
