Is he an ordinary person? No. Nor would I want a presidential candidate to be. I'm not one of those folks who thinks that it is a good thing for the president to be "an ordinary guy". I want my president to be much more intelligent, much better educated, and much more charismatic then me. I want a president who is embarrassingly superior to me, not just embarrassing. (And by superior I don't mean superior in the eternal sense.)

ROFL!!! I have not seen anyone superior to me. Ever! Oh, except my parents.

So, you've never met anyone with superior intelligence, superior leadership skills, nobody has ever been better then you at anything, except for your parents? Wow, I really need to meet your parents.

That's what I meant by superior. I wasn't talking about your worth in the eyes of God.

What leadership skills has Obama shown? All he has shown is that he is capable of giving a good speech that someone else writes. Take him off the teleprompter and he's easily flabbergasted.

He made Wright his spiritural advisor and has been a member of his chruch for 20 years - says he believes in BLT and claims he didn't know the chruch or Wright are racist. (he never has denounced his "faith" which is BLT an extremely racist theology) What makes him an intellectual?

Scripture says;

(Psa 1:1) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

And when you look at all the unGoly counsel Obama has subjected himself to (Wright, Bill Ayer, Bernandine Dohorn, Resko, etc.) , it is obvious that he is not blessed, or inlightened, nor spiritual.

By the way, Black Liberation Theology is the epitome of being scornful, so Obama sat in the seat of the scornful for over 20 years.

Thanks
RC

It has always been my understanding that Spirituality and Christianity are not necessarily compatible in the sense that the term Spirituality is used today. In fact, in my life, the people I have met who claimed to be Spiritual usually followed beliefs other than Christianity, such as Paganism, Wicca, Buddhism, Hinduism, Transcendental Meditation, cults, etc. Because of those experiences, I usually get a little uneasy when people start talking about Spirituality and Spiritualism and so forth.

Maybe a couple of people.

BTW, you really would enjoy meeting my parents. They are wonderful, loving Christian people. I am blessed to have them.

I know what you meant. The problem is that the majority of people place others on a pedestal without reason. Obama certainly displays nothing that I would consider superior.

Well, I don't think that just because a person is intelligent means that they can't believe in God.

That's not what I said though. I am talking about people who consider themselves highly intellectual, and consider Christianity or any other "traditional religion" idiotic mumbo jumbo at best, but will latch onto this Spiritual Obama thing like barnacles, because it's intellectually Ok in thier view to be "deeply spiritual" as long as you don't define "spiritual" or require any ethical or moral code as part of it.

I certainly know that intelligent people can believe in God. I'm just talking about a certain set of folks who think of themselves as too smart to believe in God, yet fall for this nutty New Age stuff.

What exactly is so "nutty" about it, other than the fact that you disagree with it because of what you read in a 2,000 year old book?

You are wise to feel that way. Google the author of the article. I think you will see that your gut feeling is pretty much right on the mark.

Here is one article I found by Mark. the title is How to abandon your God
Is it OK to switch religions, change denominations, even split from God entirely? Jesus says: Sure!

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2008/03/05/notes030508.DTL

copy from the article. Notice the "slant"

It's not really all that shocking. People change religions. People swap denominations. People evolve, go to college, learn to think (and seek meaning) for themselves, change their minds or marry someone of a different belief or go through a personal revelation, or actually experience the spiritual/intellectual epiphany that reveals how all religions are one and God is not "out there" and you are not here to be its meek sinful guilty mindless servant.

This guy Mark who wrote the article said in the article posted by the OP

Here's where it gets gooey. Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.
____________

That part bold had me wondering what type of people he knows and considers to be "spiriturally advanced". That is what encourage me to google him and his spiriturality.

Well, P31W answered already.

But, it's ironic that they will believe *anything* if it's "spiritual", as long as it has nothing to do with the "2000 year old book" which you disparage.

Besides which, touting Obama as a higher being definately is nutty. He is all too human, as we've seen.

Not true. I like many ideas presented in the Bible. I just believe that much of it is metaphorical and not literal. And yes, I agree that Obama is not a higher being. He is just a naturally good politician.
