I think I should quit, but Im unsure...

Im an Assistant to someone I don't like a lot. Its not even that shes not a nice or even a good person, I just dont like to be around her and try to avoid her.

Im a long-term temp, so I wouldnt be losing benefits.

Ive never had a job where I work closely w/management and get information Id rather not know....who gets paid how much. Who got a high salary cause thats the boss friend or this supervisors friend. I get to see a lot of private info on employees and Id rather not.

I guess Im looking for a reason to quit. My first day was a bad sign as the boss walked by me and when she was told thats me, she chose to neglect me. and I had to be persistent to get her to "see" me and give me something to do....Time flies, 8 months has passed.

Am I overreacting...Im trying to find another job, but Id like to leave SOON. I feel that the worst that can happen is that I get another temp job...I really don't think it would take more than 1 week...but its a gamble. How do I know if that wont be worse????

My salary is not great and I feel underpaid anyway. Theres a lot of politics and drama in the department.

Have you found another job to go to? If not, I'd think that should be your top priority.

Do you have others dependent on you? If you don't, you're free and you could live in your car a while if you had to (find a gym and shower there. Or ask a motel if you can jump in the shower of a room where someone has checked out and the room hasn't been cleaned yet). Sticking out a difficult job because you have kids is honorable.

If you have kids to feed, you aren't as free to ditch and run. By the way, if you leave you need to give at least two weeks notice or you'll be seen as undependable and a creep, and that opinion will be given to future potential employers.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Trust God, read your Bible every day, and tell God what's on your heart. I am praying for you tonight.

My mom always told me if you want to quit your job make sure you have another one to go to... I didn't have to give a reason why I quit the current job but the house rule was I better have another job to go to!
A couple of times I worked for fast food restaurants but hey, I wasn't without a job!

How much time is left on your contract? If it is just a month or two, can you stick it out? Or, can you ask your temp agency if you can switch to another position? Just let them know that you are not being challenged (you said that it is like pulling teeth to get her to give you something to do) and that while you have appreciated the opportunity and that you learned a lot, that you are ready to move on - but you want to do it within the temp agency. Perhaps they'll be able to find something for you and also maintain the contract by putting in one of their own people. If you don't feel comfortable - try to find a job before you go - if you can. Then, you can give the temp agency the standard 2 week notice.

Hard to say whether you are over re-acting here or not...If you are an assistant which means you have to have some close contact in order to work together..it is hard to work for someone you are trying to avoid...Perhaps sit down and discuss your feelings...if nothing resolves then leave...reality is you would not be hurting them but only yourself unless you have another job to go to
