Of course not, carbon dating does work that far back as the half-life is too short.

Why did they pick 120,000, rather than 50,000 or 2 million? Do the researchers have an internal bias towards 120,000 years ago?

Actually, I expect they used ice layers to date the sample. (Or oxygen ratios compared to known ice cores with dated layers.)

Is it not significant to anyone here that the bacteria survived for 120,000 years, give or take a few thousand in an extreme environment of ice? Especially without metabolization?

Further, how biologically significant would it be that scientists have just found ice on Mars? Also that ice travels through the solar system as comets?
