Greehhouse calculator for kids[:@]

It ends with an exploding pig and blood if the kids don't give the correct "green" answers about their lifestyle and tells them when they are going to die.[:'(]

Not half as scary as some of the dispensational drivel I heard in Vacation Bible School as a kid. The Aussies are a bit different, anyway.

ta_mosquito -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/3/2008 3:56:32 PM)

I used up my "share of the earth's resources" by the time I was 6.5 years old? Oh, give me a break. [8|]

And what does how much money I spend each year have to do with anything?

elastic -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/3/2008 3:59:16 PM)

i have recently taken on my own personal crusade to NOT buy anything that goes to great lengths to say that it is 'green'.

i am sick to death of all global warming drivel and the way everyone is on the green bandwagon....gimme a break already.

The more you make the more you spend and create more garbage and use more resources making stuff you buy.

Really. God gave us the earth to use as a landfill. If he wanted us to conserve, he'd have told us to be good stewards.

Exploding pig and blood? The kids in this country would probably say, "Oh, cool!" It would become a YouTube favorite.

B/C the green movement has taken so much out of my pocket in terns of higher food, electric, heating, and gas prices, I purposesly DON'T recycle

rnershigh -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/3/2008 7:46:54 PM)

The first time I answered seriously and it spit out the age "24".
The second time I decided to have some fun and answered badly every time and it said "1.3".LOL.[:D]

This survey is loony.
Yah, we all deserve to die and not live.
That way the Earth can go back to its pristine state if we get rid of every human being on this planet.[8D]

And that is what the wackos want; they have a proposed park here in the Raleigh in which no human can set foot. The National Park Service has a permanent ban on humans on a large portion of the Outer Banks despite the damage it will do to the tourist trade. This action was to save the nesting birds but the wackos forced the Park Service for a permanent ban.

fiat_lux -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/3/2008 9:05:29 PM)

I made it to age 30. I guess that qualifies me as a hippie. [:)]

ta_mosquito -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/3/2008 10:58:22 PM)

How do they come up with the allotted amount of resources?

Same as with anything about global warming - you guess
you grab numbers out of the air

I vow to never use as much energy as Al Gore.

That's what I love about the environmental extremists they feel that animals are not intelligent enough to adapt to their new surroundings and in the case of birds they'll find a new place to nest at the drop of a hat. It may confuse them the first time but they'll get over it soon enough.

We have birds that nest in the rafters of our patio and also wedge them between the cable and electic lines in the eaves by our bedroom. It's so cool waking up in the morning to the sounds of the baby birds chirping to momma and dadda "I'm hungry!"

KatMack -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/4/2008 8:50:32 AM)

Is this really marketed toward kids? The subtitle for the quiz is "When should you die"!

davemiller7 -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/4/2008 10:17:17 AM)

Well, that was certainly a waste of internet bandwidth! It goes to show there are too many people with too much spare time on their hands. I tried to answer it honestly and I should have died at age 14.5. Hey! I've cheated death!

I've been dead for 45 years and didn't even know it!

Hey, you've got something in common with Elvis and Jim Morrison!

BTW, I bet they've tripled their hits on their site just from the people on this board taking the test. They are probably so proud of all the people they are getting their message to. [:D]

stellaluna -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/4/2008 7:39:17 PM)

I thought it was fun, although I lot a little distracted making the pig BIG, then little, then BIG, then little...

I got to age 14.

garsyt -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/5/2008 9:48:19 AM)

well I showed this to my 14 year old and then my 9 year old ds's and both of them thought it was quite stupid. Not scary - just stupid and kinda funny. There's nothing wrong with taking care of the world that God has given us as a temporary home - but I really don't think very many could meet their criteria. I made it to 18.6, My hubby made it to 16. I guess we should have been dead for at least 30 years now.[&:]

Blessings,

Garsy

mapachito13 -> RE: Scaring kids "green" (6/6/2008 7:46:54 AM)

I finally took the silly test and found out I died at 7.5 years old. A tragedy not making it into 3rd grade. Now I feel like Bruce Willis in the movie "The Sixth Sense".

"I see dead people!"

The more you make the more you spend and create more garbage and use more resources making stuff you buy.

Let's see ... we don't buy processed food or anything like that ... kids have far too many allergies. So we spend MORE money than the average person by buying produce at the local farmer's market (which we walk to) or by growing our own. When we do go shopping, it is strictly for necessities, yet once again, it is the more expensive stuff because of all the allergies to the additives (like dyes and perfumes). So we are spending almost double per year than our neighbours, but creating a LOT less garbage ... and we have far healthier kids to show for it. (Oh, and we compost and recycle as well ... and we use the canvas bags when we do have to go shopping)

Agreed! Money spent is not a very accurate indicator when it comes to the amount of trash generated. I just spent nearly $3 a piece on heriloom tomato plants for my garden from a local nursery (3 blocks away - and we walked) I brought my own clay containers to take them home in and the owner of the nursery dug them right out of the ground for me. Now I could have went to another nearby store - within walking distance and purchased basic tomato plants for the discounted price of $1.40 but from experience they are not as hardy a plant and I usually end up WASTING my money because they die out or the crop is pitiful. Same goes for this same nurseries produce stand in the fall. I'll go there for any produce before I hit the other places because it's locally grown and delicious and I know by buying it there I'm supporting a local family and business. I spend a little more but there is less waste and I'm using NO gas because I can walk there, and I bring my own containers to bring things home in. And I know how the produce is raised. It costs more - but better for me and my community.

Blessings,

Garsy
