Still no word from either school. I'll try again tomorrow morning.

that is unacceptable. I just can't understand why they just drop the ball like that.

School is out in just days isn't it?

Noah has a field trip tomorrow, testing Mon-Thurs, closing Friday. Nick goes until the 25th.

Liz thinks she has it bad because she doesn't get out until the 11th! Of course, she did start the year in Indiana where they start mid-August and have already been out for a few weeks.

Poor thing though. She starts finals tomorrow and today she came home with *cramps* and not feeling well. My niece isn't feeling well and was throwing up. I hope Liz didn't get what she has on top of monthly problems. She can't miss finals.

Well, Noah actually started August 1st because we were homeschooling at the beginning of the year. But then we took most of September off.

WOW!!!! when do they start back, mid september? They must have a lot of time off during the year or something.

Dee, I've been watching the radar, you've got some storms down there for sure. I don't know if you have weather bug or not, but this entire area, SD, NE, Minn, KS is filled with rain/storms. I've never seen anything like it.

boy if that goes straight East, we here in Indiana could be in for A LOT in the next couple days! But so far everything is tracking northeast so it's missing us completely! It's HOT here and windy - but other then that not too bad out!

Blessings,

Garsy

I've been watching the radar on weather.com. It's passed for now, and is quieter. Although my 4yo still gets upset when I go to the door. I guess she heard the warning to stay away from doors and windows on TV a few times this afternoon.

We had lots of wind and rain coming down in sheets. I hope the storm breaks up before it gets to you Kath. I hope it misses you Garsy.

I hope Liz is feeling better. That would be a bummer, to start in August and then go well into June like that.

Dee

We lucked out today! We thought we were going to end up having to take Shadow to the vet. She came out with the kids at one point and was NOT putting any weight at all on her left back leg! She seemed to be in a lot of pain and whined when I picked her up. I could feel that she had dislocated her hip! So I massaged the area a bit with her whining all the while. Then all of a sudden it just popped back into joint and about 10 minutes later she was RUNNING around the yard! We are going to start her on her anti-immflamatory meds again.

We also got two out of the 4 report cards today. Aryn and Zoe's came. Aryn had straight A's again and Zoe did just as well! I love reading the comments the teachers include with the report cards! We also got the results of some testing Aryn had taken this spring. She scored very well - but that's what we were expecting! I'm interested in seeing Ethan's scores more then Aryn tho. We all know Aryn is very bright and tests well, Ethan is very bright - but he doesn't always perform up to par.

The libraries Summer reading program has been going for 4 days now and ALL 4 of my kids have earned their first prize and Aryn is nearing the end of her second trail!

Blessings,

Garsy

that is amazing!

I miss those comments, we don't get them in highschool.

The storm seems to be going in a circular pattern. I guess that is not a good thing. The weather man said the one in KS moved east so we will miss the brunt of it.

They go back the first week in September. Some districts here have as many as 10 snow days allotted. They do take a lot of stupid days off too, IMO. Noah goes back at the same time, but the Christian school doesn't have to get their 180 days in because they get no federal funding.

Yikes on all those storms. Must be that's what we're supposed to get in rain and thunderstorms this weekend?

That is a relief (about the dog) Garsy!

Donna, do the schools let out early if they don't use all the snow days, or do they generally use most of them?

Storms moving circularly, well, maybe that explains why there's still so much storm activity in the area. I just heard that there was a tornado warning in the county to the east of us. Oh, and camp is now under a flood watch. They are right no a creek, so if the water comes up, they'll get it for sure.

I guess that means they won't be canoing there next week. My daughter was assigned to help with canoing this week, so she called Saturday and wanted some clothes that she could wear for canoing. Then she found out she was canoing twice a day so she called back Sunday morning asking for more canoing clothes. She really doesn't have that many shorts that she'd be happy to dip in the creek. We brought her a few things; hopefully it was enough.

In the last 5 years, they've used them all. So much for global warming, huh? I'm not sure what the do if they don't use them all. Maybe add them on spring break?

I seem to vaguely recall school getting out early a day or 2 maybe once due to non-use of snow days. That was when we had a different superintendent though. Generally here they just keep with the last day of school as planned, regardless of how many snow days are used. Although I found out this year that they don't have as many worked into the calendar as I thought they did.

No storms here but we could really use the rain! It was 95 here today...a lot warmer than normal!!

I hope that everyone else made it through the storms all right.

Garsy-Glad that your dog is fine!

It thunderstormed about 2 hours last night...from 3-5. None of the kids woke up during it, but Hannah and Levi woke up as soon as it was over. Silly kids...

Noah's field trip today is to an environmental center...basically an educational park. I made him pack an extra pair of socks and shoes because I'm sure he's going to get soaking wet. He was so thrilled to be able to wear shorts and a t-shirt to school today! I also packed him several drinks...it's supposed to be 80s today.

Wow! I hope all you folks with the storms are doing okay this morning. We're supposed to be in the low 90's here again today and no rain in sight yet.

Donna, I hope you hear something soon. I hope Noah has a fantastic field trip.

Denim, I hope Liz is feeling better.

Garsy, glad your dog is okay. One of my in-law's cats got hurt somehow a couple months ago. The vet said they would have to operate on his hip and that he wouldn't be able to use his back leg without the operation. Well, it's been at least 2 months with no operation, and the cat walks using all four legs with little or no limp. He does lay around a lot more than he used to, though.

Hope everyone has a good day despite the weather.

She mostly just has to get lots of sleep before and during and lots of water. She's on a prescription for iron and that helps some.

J-10 is so excited because I found a VBS to volunteer at and she and J-8 will have to go with me. She's never been to VBS, but she enjoys school and church so she thinks she's going to love it. J-8 is furious with me because she hates school and church so she thinks she's going to hate it.

These girls are so opposite that I'm praying for a miracle of something they both love (besides swimming) that we can do this summer. It's going to take a miracle.

Roberta, is is so funny how opposite siblings can be. Aggravating at times too. I do hope J-8 doesn't hate it though.

We finished off our VBS this morning. The kids will sing in church Sunday morning, but that's just a simple thing; the kids will be with their parents before and after.

I picked up my son from camp today. I can't tell you all how much I love that place. He looked about a year older when I picked him up, and I mean that in a good way. He made a good friend there this week, which for him is an awesome thing. That is not something that happens easily for him.

This is my son, who hates to write. I think he passed on going to Pioneer Camp this year and last because they try to get the kids to do a little bit of journaling at the end of the day. Well, this evening he said that next year he should take a notebook so he could take some notes. He thought that would be good practice. Wow!

My daughter will be there next week also. I drop her off, and she doesn't really have any friends there. I pick her up on Friday, and she has a whole camp full of new friends! I love it! She was at a smaller, all girls camp. (They have 2 campuses.)

And I camp believe my oldest baby (17) is counseling again (for the third year) this summer. When did she grow up enough to do that? She also told me she got a nice compliment about her counseling from one of those in charge this week also. I had a nice talk with her this evening too, while another staffer/counselor we know hung out with my younger 3 kids. I do cherish those times, as they are hard to come by sometimes with 4 kids and her busy schedule, not to mention her limited time left at home.

Anyway, they do a great job there. They teach the kids to serve (they are all volunteers) as well as leadership. And they get great Biblical training.

Roberta, J and X are very much opposites. What I've found is that I don't have to cater to both of them at once. It's actually good for both of them to learn that others have different interests to them and that sometimes you spend time on one person's interests and then next time it might be the other's interests. And sometimes they even have to participate in something which is Mum or Dad's interest.

I think it teaches children to be less selfish if they sometimes have to do something just because it's something someone else likes to do.

I spent this afternoon with dh looking for pink kitchen items to go with a friend's kitchen for her 30th birthday (she already has pink salt and pepper shakers and a pink toaster).

I am SO NOT a pink person.

We ended up buying her three pink mixing bowls and six white placemats. I really hope she likes them.

Tamara, I think the biggest hurdle we found with changing J's diet was friends who would assure him that something was safe when it wasn't. It took J a while to learn that lesson.

That sounds like an interesting shopping trip Kylie. I don't think I've ever seen a pink toaster. Not that I've looked....

Nope.

Noah had a great time on the field trip. They were able to catch huge salamanders, examine them and then release them. He was covered in mud when he came home...but was in play clothes and I expected it.

No more homework for the rest of the year! He didn't have any last night and won't next week because of testing. WOOHOO!!!

Kylie, I'm not a pink person either. I wouldn't even want a purple kitchen.

Ours aren't even out of school yet! In fact, I'm going to my youngest ds's graduation tomorrow.

I think J-8 will be fine. She's one of those kids that doesn't want to go most places, but she's usually fine when she gets there. A couple of times I took her to youth group while I went to church. She put up the biggest fuss getting there and then had a blast once she was there. You can remind her over and over how much fun she had the time before, and she still doesn't want to go. If mommy or daddy goes, she's fine with going.

I love pink!! (Pink tops or shoes go great with denim! ) But there are some times where pink is not a color option! Cars (I'd never make it as a Mary Kay lady), homes, lawn decorations (pink flamingos are of the devil! ) and home furnishings should not be pink!!

Kylie, I know this won't help you where you are but for those who lurk and want pink kitchen stuff, Kitchenaid has a lot of pink. I love pink. Here is a bunch of pink stuff. At Linens 'n Things I even got pink chip clips.
