We watched National Treasure as well! We thought it was excellent! We also watched Cannonball Run - it was pathetic!

I also watched The Five Obstructions, and greatly enjoyed it. Lars Von Trier, of Dogme 95 fame, and a guy who had a movie out in the 60s set out to remake it, 5 times, each time with a different set of constraints. Very interesting to watch.

I just watched "I am David". An excellent movie that I would recomment to anyone. It was a movie that made me cry but the end was wonderful and that made me cry too.

I just watched Closer. I thought because Julia Roberts was in it, it would be a good movie about love and stuff. Nope, it stinked. Filled with offensive language, awful story plot, dumb ending. It was plain awful and I regret wasting my time to watch it. On a scale of 5 *'s it gets -2 *'s!

ORIGINAL: BlackAndy Last night I watched Blade: Trinity The language was pretty abrasive and the story was silly. Ryan Reynold's character did make me laugh, though... especially when he was faced with the vampire pomeranian! Dracula was a big disappointment. Even the battle with him at the end was nothing compared to the fight with Stephen Dorff in the first Blade.

Cube: Finally saw it. It was good, but you can tell it had a limited budget. Battle Royale: This was one violent, bloody and brutal movie, yet very compelling to watch.

Just saw Phantom of the Opera I never saw the Broadway production, so I can't compare it to that, although I remember seeing some exerpts from it, and hearing music from it. I forgot who played the phantom on Broadway, but he had a better voice then Gerard Butler, who plays him in the film. I believe Sarah Brightman originally played Christine in the stage version, but Emmy Rossum does almost as good of a job as she would have done. The rest of the cast are fine. Minnie Driver has an outrageous comic role as a diva. My dear hubby noted that it's difficult to make a movie musical in the shadow of Moulin Rouge, and Phantom definately shows the impact of following that groundbreaking film. It's very evident in the lighting, over-the-top style and visual effects. I think I would have preferred seeing a pre-Moulin Rouge Phantom that was free of this influence and tyring for more of its own unique visual style. On the other hand, there is a wonderful gothic sensibility about the visual style, espeically some of the earlier scenes. Some who is more familiar with earlier incarnations of the phantom...was his history/backstory changed? I thought he was an opera singer who was injured. In this story, he's had the mishapen side of his face from early childhood and perhaps from birth. And it's not that horrible, really...perhaps because to make it look any worse, the prosthetics would have hindered Gerald Butler's acting and singing (although they likely dubbed his voice back in later). It's slow moving... anyone under an appropriate age for this film is likely to be bored by it.

Michael Crawford was the original Broadway phantom - I bought the Broadway soundtrack album just for his voice!!!

Michael Crawford. Yes, his voice was MUCH better. But perhaps too old for what they wre going for with the film. I did a little reaearch and found out that the facial malformation from birth was the original tale, and it was changed to an injury in the early film version.

Last night I watched Belle De Jour, a Luis Bunuel flick from the late 60s, and was sorely disappointed. The characters are all fairly two-dimensional, I really didn't care what she did - it's about a virgin newlywed who decides to become a prostitute at a high-class brothel. Supposedly erotic, entirely not. The ending feels rushed. I don't know if the performances were that great or not, there wasn't much to work with.

Supposedly erotic, entirely not. That could describe a lot of films... When I heard the name, "Belle De Jour"....somehow I knew it had to be a Catherine Deneuve film. Don't know if it just sounded like one, or if I had seen it in the video store... ********************* Next on our list, and on the way from Blockbuster Online, "Hotel Rwanda" and "In Good Company"

Well, it's a fairly infamous film, most scandalous at the time, brought her to the forefront of media attention. But she barely even "acted" in the film, just sort of walked and sat around lookin' pretty - and definately not looking 23!

Movie portrayal of the Crusades said to contain glaring inaccuracies. "Christian film critics are concerned that the producer of the new film "Kingdom of Heaven" not only allowed some glaring historical inaccuracies, but also put Christians in a bad light. The movie depicts the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem in the 12th century. In talking about his film, producer-director Ridley Scott said: "What I like to do, and probably I'm more known for doing, is creating worlds." But Dr. Ted Baehr of the Christian Television and Film Commission said in this case, Scott has simply created controversy. "The armor was wrong. The military tactics were wrong. The approach to Jerusalem was wrong," Baehr said. "The film is historically inaccurate, geographically inaccurate and it paints Christians often the way you would see Muslims (portrayed). I mean, at one point, a monk is yelling out, 'If you kill an infidel you go to heaven.' Well, this has never been Christian theology." Bob Smithouser, editor of Plugged in Magazine, ... "Ridley Scott admits to being an agnostic," Smithouser added. "He also says the writer of the film is an agnostic, and so I believe there's a certain amount of ignorance about what a Christian, a true Christian, really is." Baehr is concerned many will see the movie and come away with the view that Christians are evil. "

I personally thought they did a pretty good job of keeping Air Marshal historically accurate.

I read an article with the director of the Slums of Beverly Hills, once, and she spoke of her search for tube socks with three rings at the top, rather than two, as back in the 70s they had three rings.

Was that the same as Starship Troopers? I think that was the name, with the Noxema girl and Casper Van Diem...
