Sandlot 2

Another PG rated that comes out this week.

We have TVG and it seemed to have trapped a bit of language throughout.

A few s words here and there I think.

I'll give this a score with a warning that there may be some language in it.

Fritz Rating: ****

Phantom of the Opera

I've never seen the musical or anything so I really can't compare it to that.

But I LOVED this musical that comes to DVD this week.

Not sure I'd let the 5 year old watch this one but the older kids could.

Looking forward to Phantom of the Opera, but with 4 people in the family juggling on the Blockbuster Online que (and who knows when hubby will return About Schmidt, oddly enough his first request), it may be next week before I see it. However, I just sent back Lemony Snickett, and since National Treasure is at the Top of the cue, I'll likely have it by Thursday or Friday.

I watched Spanglish over the weekend and was soooo disappointed with the turn the movie took towards the end I was expecting something different, I think.

I also rented A Love Song for Bobby Long but I haven't watched it yet.

I watched Lemony Snicket this weekend on DVD.... pretty good. I like the little girl. The subtitles for her baby gibberish are great!

I watched an old movie called Scanners from 1980. I haven't seen it for decades. It wasn't as good as I remembered.

Isn't it funny how the GREAT movies you remember from your childhood aren't as good as you thought they were...
I remember I thought the movie CAVEMAN (with Ringo Starr) was hilarious! Watching it last year with some friends (it was my suggestion) was pretty embarrassing...

Very true. Especially the movies where we thought the special effects were so cool, only to watch them now and think they look like something from a cheap video game. The Last Starfighter is a good example.

The movie was groundbreaking at the time using a computer animated rocketship. But now it looks like an outdated Atari game. But the movie was pretty good as far as the story goes.

I own the Last Starfighter - Flight of the Navigator is another good one.

I finally finished DIG!, having watched it with all three commentaries. I also watched Gozu, which was pretty boring. The whole time I was saying, 1. this guy so wishes he was David Lynch and 2. this must be based on some sort of myth or fable, both were true - if you're familiar with the name, it's from Takashi Miike, most recently known for Ichi the Killer.

I've heard that Ichi the Killer is really gross and violent. Is Gozu as bad?

DiG! sounds somewhat interesting, but more likely something I'd stumble upon on Bravo or IFC while switching channels.

I posted more about it previously, after the first time I watched it - and just remembered I also had a thread in Music for it, that I totally forgot about!

Gozu wasn't violent - well...not to the point where I'd say, "That was a violent movie!" If you're okay with Lynchian weirdness, no thing will gross you out. My main complaint was just the incredibly slow pace. It did end with a bang, but not without much yawning the way through.

I know I'm slow, but I just saw Closer.
hmmm...
I didn't really like it.
its sad that some people actually live their lives like that
the acting was good though, if it wasn't for that I would have turned it off
I still wish I would have left it at the video store, I could have definately lived without seeing it.

I think seeing that movie as a kid is part of why I'm so weird now. That and too many episodes of Doctor Who.

I just watched the first new episode of Doctor Who, and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Finally got around to watching Miracle, it was way too Disneyish for my liking. I know that it's supposed to be a family film, but hockey players just do not talk like that in real life. Plus, it was too much like Mighty Ducks 4: The Olympics. Oh, and while it may be easier to teach hockey players to act than actors to skate, teaching hockey players to be good actors is something else altogether. But then, we should have already known that you can't teach a hockey player to be a good actor, take a look at Keanu Reeves.
