I Am Legend - I thought it was great, but I was looking at it as more than an action/adventure movie.

The Seeker - It was alright, nice movie to watch with friends and popcorn. Coming of age fantasy of good/evil.

Heroines

I recently acquired this rare film from ebay, from a Hong Kong distributor (hint: only Chinese subtitles). It's a French drama that plays more like a chick flick. The story involves 2 wannabe singer/songwriters who found fame and fortune... sort of: the real talent (real life rock starlet Maidi Roth) is being used as the voice behind her sensual, lip-synch best friend (Virginie Ledoyen). Personally, I can't help but feel allured by Ledoyen in an all-black leather, on stage attire!

Now if only I can find the original novel that was based upon, Play-back.

The Lives of Others (Das Leben Der Anderen)

Finally had the chance to check out Ulrich Muhe's last role, in this anti-oustalgia (sp?) drama. I can't help but be reminded of George Orwell's 1984, while I was watching this film, since not surprisingly, it's set in the mid-80's! Still, I think it sort of evokes a kind of Teutonic version of Francis Ford Coppola's classic thriller, The Conversation.

The only fault, if qualifiable, is the post-Cold War 'epilogue,' that seems to go on forever, going from the tragic climax, all the way to the characters' lives, 5-6 years after the initial story ends... Highly recommended.

Yeah, I was reminded of The Conversation while watching it as well. It's been a long time since I saw The Lives of Others, but I remember being very moved by the ending of the film. I'll have to watch it again soon; great film.

The Mist... best creature feature since Aliens IMO. The ending was horrible though >.< (not that it was bad.... it was just horrible).

Finished Chrono Crusade too yesterday. Quite a downer of an ending too. Overall a decent series IMO.

Blood+ DVDs 3 and 4...oh, man. Kids turning into monsters is creepy.

The Invisible...this was totally NOT what I expected. While I wouldn't say it was a great movie, it was kind of sweet and sad in it's own way.

The only hilarious moment I could even muster a sincere laugh--AND nausea, is that infamous nude wrestling scene.

Enough said...

*though, I can see why this Sasha Baron Cohen effort is so over-rated: there's a bit of guerilla, ambush-style filmmaking, a la Michael Moore!

Michael Clayton- good movie. A bit slow first but it's a good movie. Without the cussing and the sexual words....I'd say that the movie kinda reminded me of the way they used to make movies in the old days. The only thing I don't get is---Tilda Swinton received an award for this role?

Blood+ DVD 5...the final episodes of the first half of the series. The writers did a good job of filling in the back story in these episodes. I am sorry I didn't start watching this series on Adult Swim from the beginning, so I could have seen the whole story in context.

Time for something non-anime. I don't know if my timing will be right to get Juno from Netflix this week, but we'll see.

Watched Le Portrait De Petite Cossett.... artsy fartsy indie type anime if I ever saw one. Not that that's a bad thing though, I really enjoyed it. But it was a little hard to follow at first because it was SO bizarre and I'm still not sure if it was all metaphorical or if these events were actually taking place. Either way it was visually beautiful and "artsy" (story sits in the co-pilots chair for this but it was still good) though quite dark, bloody and quite bizarre.

Watched Army of Darkness too... Never seen any of the other Evil Dead movies but I thought this was great! I honestly wish they would make movies more like this rather than with CGI and all. I thought the stop motion skeletons and stuff were awesome. Pretty funny stuff. And the female lead looked almost exactly like a female Keanu Reeves. If Keanu ever grew his hair out, that's what he'd look like.

Sweeney Todd.
I enjoyed the movie overall as far as style, direction and story but I really didn't care much for the music itself.

Little Miss Sunshine

Very realistically funny as it is heartwarming--without the typical schmaltz. But one thing for sure: I doubt I'll ever listen to another Rick James song the same way ever again!

Knocked Up

Just another Judd Apatow, Chaucerian-styled comedy, to reinforce my gratitudes why I should be glad I was never "lucky" in my social life--otherwise I'll have to look forward to an unplanned "jackpot" in some woman's womb!

Well, I delayed on seeing this for so long, having mixed feelings about it.

But, really, it does portray an extreme among evangelical Christians.

There's a lot more I could say, but I need some time to digest a little.

Finished Air. I picked up the first disc cause the art and style looked great. But this turned out to be the most sad anime I think I've ever seen. But it's also probably one of my favorites. The art was fantastic and beautiful and it did have a really good story. Its a little slow... but once it starts going it gets really interesting. Great music, great story, great lines... fantastic scenery and animation and all... nice fantasy type anime that turned out to be a lot different than I was expecting given the first couple episodes.

Have you ever seen Saikano? It has got to be the most heartwrenching anime series I have ever seen. I couldn't watch it a second time. It's very well done, but...dismal.
