Hey guys... I started a bible commentary wiki and need your help to make anything of it.

With as many people as are on this site, if just a few of you skilled in the ways of wiki could come by and write something even on just one verse it would get us off to a great start...

Bible Commentary Wiki

let me know if you think this would be useful or not... i hope it can grow to be helpful

colliefan -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/16/2008 9:06:48 PM)

Just a suggestion: start on one book (or chapter(s) of the bible and one that is less likely to start controversey. How about Romans Chapter 8 or Psalm 1.

rogermugs -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/16/2008 10:07:17 PM)

hmm... i'm happy for it to start anywhere. the beauty of a wiki is anyone can add any part they want... my hope is for people who are passionate about one chapter or one verse to go and write a commentary on that one section. Then leave the rest for people who are tuned into those other sections...

but i hear what you're saying... any chance you're interested in adding a bit about one of those chapters? even just something small to get it started would be helpful

Roger,
Ya gotta be kidding. With all the controversy on these threads! Which verse of Scripture do you suppose one could get a unanimous understanding on? Perhaps starting with, "Jesus wept?" Naw, I think even with such a short verse, there would be disagreement. [:D]

Have fun with your wiki and I hope you are able to get the ball rollin.'

i dont get it... where did i say unanimous?

the whole point of a wiki is the room for discussion and disagreement... 15 points can be shared on one chapter... if you buy a standard bible commentary you just get one view... thats the beauty of the internet you'll be able to see all 15 points.

JordanW -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/17/2008 5:42:34 PM)

Hey I think it's a great idea!

rogermugs -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/17/2008 6:04:03 PM)

well thank you jordan... nice to have at least one positive endorsement...

evry1needsgod -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/17/2008 9:34:38 PM)

At first, it seems like a good idea...but correct me if I'm wrong on this, but as in any wiki, can't any individual who wishes change what is shown? If that is true, it will turn out to be a battle of who cares the most to change the meaning of a verse to coincide with their opinion. For all you know, a JW could visit your website, and change the whole meaning of John 1:1! This allows room for heresy. An unsaved individual could visit your site, see one single translation of a verse by an Atheist who only cares about disrupting Christianity, and believe it. Before you know it, your site could be a source of heresy, rather than the good you intended. These are just some thoughts though. I don't mean to discourage you...and I'm certainly not telling you you are doing the wrong thing. I'm Just giving you both sides of the coin to consider. Good luck and may God bless you and your endeavors.

rogermugs -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/18/2008 9:56:37 AM)

wow...

but yea in theory it could work that way. in the same way wikipedia sometimes gets bad press because people go and change things on the site to make them complete lies or completely inappropriate.

the beauty of this wiki is you have to be a member to change things... so if you write some sort of heresy chances are you'll be banned pretty quickly. also... it would be the same as this forum wouldn't you think? thats what moderators are for...

Heavendweller -> RE: bible commentary wiki (5/18/2008 12:11:32 PM)

Hello Roger, I'm back. [;)] I've got a few questions. From what faith tradition do you wish this wiki to base its beliefs upon? I ask this because there is an Orthodox wiki and I've referred to that in order to understand Orthodox beliefs. I know that I can go there and get a definitive answer regarding basic doctrine which is taught in the EOC.

Is it your intention to build upon a particular set of beliefs within Protestantism or rather to have a more generalized approach which would include a diversity of beliefs within Protestantism? I ask this because there are quite a number of differentiating beliefs under the banner of Protestantism which can be attested to when reading a number of threads on Crosswalk.com.

Exactly my point. I understand that you have to be a member, and in theory, the true Christian members who regular the site will act as 'moderators', but exactly which doctrine do you to reinforce? Exactly which doctrines will you accept and reject? Exactly which kind of 'Christian' denominational beliefs will you weed out? I assume you are 'Protestant', but that is an EXTREMELY broad category, ranging from Mormon, JW, Baptist, Calvinist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc...all of which have different opinions of Scripture. Making this site do as you have intended is going to be an EXTREMELY difficult task. My only fear is that heresy will be taught to the naive who frequent you site, rather than the good that was intended. This is my only concern. And again, I'm not telling you you should or should not continue your endeavor. That is your choice, and if you choose to continue it, I pray God will bless you and give you patience.

In Christ,
Zack G

Zach,
So glad you understood the point I was trying to make. Roger indeed has a difficult task ahead of him. Not impossible, but difficult.
