tenfour -> one-stop threads (5/12/2008 12:29:55 AM)

This is a suggestion to change one-stop threads into sub-forums. I've noticed a number of threads that get closed because they are too similar to the topics of one-stop threads.

In many cases the person never reposts the question in the one-stop thread, and I don't blame them. These threads are many pages long. I certainly wouldn't try to read them to catch up with the discussion. If someone posts a new question, it seems it would just get lost in the haystack.

I have often been interested in a question someone posted, but since their thread gets closed, I can't reply. And the one-stop threads are so long and intimidating, that I don't go in. It would be too time-consuming to try to catch up in any of those, like reading a novel.

Edit...It occurred to me that perhaps the reason for this is that it can get overwhelming to try to moderate the same topic many times over. Perhaps the situation could be improved instead by making the one-stop thread topics a little more specific. For example, I would think tithing to be a huge topic for Christians to discuss, with many intricacies and possible questions, but I think having a one-stop thread prevents people from discussing anything but the general two questions, "should we tithe" and "how much should we tithe". Maybe there could be a one-stop thread for discussion of those main issues, but then specific questions like "should I be tithing out of my stimulus check" could be allowed as new threads so they actually get a response.

Thanks for the suggestion.

We'll take it under advisement the next time we review the One Stop threads status.
