If I may, how about modifying the quote to read: "Everyone wants a paycheck, many want a job, but no one wants to put forth any effort in that job."

quote:

ORIGINAL: mapachito13

One of my clients coined a pharse related to this. She said, "Everyone wants a paycheck but no one wants a JOB."

That was an very inappropriate comment that cast aspersions on the intelliegence of our soldeirs; however, I wonder how much the draft and conditions during Vietnam might have had on King's opinions. He was in his early 20's when the war really started to heat up. Educational deferments where one of the ways to avoid the draft. Still, I would prefer that he consider how his comments might affect our brave soldiers before he speaks in the future.

On behalf of those of us in the great State of Maine I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for that raving lunatic. His views don't represent the vast majority of Mainers (probably because they can't read well enough to understand them ).

Spoken like a true raving lunatic!

We salute our brothers/sisters from the great state of Maine from the land of fruit and nuts!

BTW, do they spell "Main Street" with an "E"?

2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers

Vietnam Veterans were the best educated forces our nation had ever sent into combat. 79% had a high school education or better

King just wants to be admired among other Democrats. Kerry thinks our soldiers are stupid too. And terrorists. Durbin thinks they're like Hitler's men. Kennedy celebrates their failures.

Surprise! King is a Democrat.

Looks like he could've used some military discipline in his life as well.

"Shortly after The Tommyknockers publication in 1987, King's family and friends staged an intervention, dumping evidence of his addiction taken from the trash including beer cans, cigarette butts, grams of cocaine, Xanax, Valium, NyQuil, dextromethorphan (cough medicine), and marijuana, on the rug in front of him. As King related in his memoir, he then sought help and quit all forms of drugs and alcohol in the late 1980s, and has remained sober since." King's Addictions

Well let us pray he has help for these things. King himself would not qualify for military he would have to pass pee test. Sorry what my husband calls it, army talk.

His specialty would be ....... chemical warfare? Are you bragging or complaining? My nephew who flunked out of college (due to a tendency to smoke pot rather than go to class) just finished a tour in Iraq. He actually has done well in the Army but said he now "hates Iraq and everything about it". Looks as though he may have to do a second tour.

I do not know how they do it, because they are very strict. I know a situation where the FBI was brought in with a situation.

Neither. Just pointing out that it's possible. His recruiter was fully aware of the situation. I was told as long as you don't lie, you're gold.

He dropped out of college and then stupidly made a lot of bad decisions. The army is his way of "getting his life back together." I sincerely hope it does.

For what it's worth, our local police force used to turn away anyone who had ever used drugs. Not anymore.

Tom the Military is an honorable career. Maybe it will give honor and discipline to the criminals they let in. I know it will. It hurts when people put the soldiers down, knowing what they do, to protect us.

So Stephen King is once again a idiot?

Most everything has been dumbed down in some way. In many states at one time, you had to be at least 6' to be a highway patrolman

But we digress.

In WWII the miltary dropped many requiremnets for men, you could be 5' tall and not know how to read and get in. It was what was needed at the time.

All Stephen King has done is shown more of his liberal elitest atiitude. And no he does not "support the troops". If he were in an airport as a load of them came off a plane he would want to spit on them. He knows it and I know it.

I thought we already settled that question.

One thing about the military is that they have a very distinguished career of turning people's lives around. Once (If) you get in, they don't care what you did before you donned that uniform. You start fresh. Where you go is up to you.

BTW, there are instances where petty criminals have been encouraged by judges to join up, isn't there?

Very rare and made into mostly myth during Vietanm. But if the intelligence is there it still shows Stephen King to be an idiot who write books under the protection of the military and became very wealthy.

He is pond scum

He isn't "writing under the protection of the military". He's utilizing free speech, just as we are here in this forum. The military isn't what determines whether America is true to its ideals. The Armed Forces play an important role, but serve no purpose if freedom isn't protected at home. So, I don't care for King's ignorance on the subject, but he has every right to say it.

I DID NOT SAY HE DID NOT HAVE A RIGHT. DO NOT! put words in my mouth. I am not in the mood for it today!

The FREEDOM he acts upon in writing his books is protected by the military. Take away our miltary protection and see how long that freedom is kept or this forum lasts.

Aren't we touchy? Take away the Bill of Rights and see the same results. It's about balance of power and responsibility. That's why the Commander-in-chief is a civilian.

Whew, just thought I was in a bad mood today, somebody bought my car ten minutes before I got there. It has been at Dealership since Sept. LOL. So anyway, Mr. King should know that it is the military neanderthals who fight for liberty to pop-off his mouth, in freedom of speech. Ok sorry, just annoys me the car and King.
