I consider well groomed for women to be hair combed, teeth brushed, make up on correctly, and clothing presentable (IRONED OR DRY CLEANED) no holes, wrinkles, or stains on the fabric. Shoes polished and not muddied. No chin hair. No facial hair . No uni-brow. Clean nails if not polished. If polished, no giant chips because you polished them a couple of weeks ago and have not retouched them.

This is for work where you must interact with the public in a serious setting, well groomed on weekends is a different matter!

Well groomed in other types of businesses is a different story. Stay at home women would have a different criteria, too. Everyone, however, should brush their teeth.

Wow...after dealing with two boys I surely fall short of that list. [&:]

I think it's up to each individual how they feel about things. My brother and SIL don't only not like makeup or jewelry, but they consider it a sin for others to participate in it. For the longest time I was a 'harlot woman' because I wore them. They still hold that opinion but have refained from voicing it everytime we see each other.

Quite frankly I wear makeup because without it I look like something the cat dragged in, chewed on, coughed up, chewed again then coughed up again for good measure. It's not pretty. *shudders*

Although I don't wear as much as I did 10 years ago. Mineral foundation and blush for work. I add mascara a bit of eye liner and lip gloss for special occasions or church. [:)]

Wait a minute . . . I hafta brush my teeth? Now I think you've gone too far and are now just making up your own stuffy rules. [8D]

Kate and Blue . . . since I don't wear foundation nor use Tide, can I get special dispensation for not taking my makeoff off last night?

Y'all were crackin' me up; so it's really y'all's fault. Because it's hard to laugh and wash one's face at the same time, doncha know.

I believe more is less! Since we are ambassadors of our Precious Lord Jesus Christ, we should look nothing but Awesome, Excellent, Outstanding! That does not mean to look like a Hollywood movie star and purchase only costly flamboyant things. It simply means people should feel and find us different from others. We should be not less than the Light that shines in the darkness even if we're are dressed in simple jeans and T-shirt strolling down the park with our precious dogs! [sm=sparklecrown.gif]

I like to look neat in apperance, I am fair skinned, stuggling with severe anemia right now, so it would bring to mind the movie the " Living Dead", if I did not wear make-up. Not withstanding, I like it, my moms mom ( nana) was very wonderful a Christian who lived by her convictions, but did not force them on others. She did not wear makeup, pants and such, but my mom and aunts could be in the Mrs Jezebel contest (LOL). My beautiful auntie in Dallas wears so much expensive Jewels, I am afraid she will be robbed. She calls he self Auntie Bling, Bling. She buys me beautiful jewlery. I am just a cosmetic Jewelry person myself though. It is just what a woman wants to do, and her heart conviction. Women are beautiful both ways, if thier heart is of the Lord.

I was not talking about everyday at home or every career. Mine requires it, many do not.

[:)]There is nothing wrong with dolling yourself up as a woman so long as you do so modestly. You can still look good and do all your dolling up modestly. In other words, putting on make up with a putty knife is a no-no, but putting it on so that it looks nice and pretty is a yes-yes... wearing jewelry modestly is also good... OBVIOUSLY modesty is the theme when it comes to outter appearance.

Random -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/9/2008 8:46:22 PM)

I don't know whether they should wear makeup, jewelry or nice shoes, but I think it's pretty clear that Christian women should wear clothes.

Absolutely not.

They should all be naked.

All is a pretty scary word, in this context. This thread is going to make me have those naked dreams again. You know those nightmares where you are in church, or school, work, and you look down and your naked. You try and cover yourself, those are horrible dreams.

Jezebel painted her eyes. God put an nose ring in Israel's nose. Jael put a spike through the bad guy's head, and the Proverbs 31 woman wore fine linen and purple.

Therefore, according to the Bible, makeup is evil, jewelry is God-ordained, high-heels are dangerous but can be used for spiritual warfare, and nice clothes are the way really godly women dresss.

OneOfHisJewels -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/10/2008 11:45:40 AM)

My very fair skin, and my eyelashes that are almost invisible without mascara are a sign from God that He wants me to wear makeup![:D]

Sideways -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/10/2008 3:18:47 PM)

Soooo, if my husband gives me a nice piece of jewelry as a gift, should I refuse it? Wouldn't that be disrespecting my husband? Catch 22!

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/10/2008 3:22:28 PM)

Refusing a gift is not, in and of itself, being disrespectful

. . . And I didn't post that to say that you should or shouldn't return it; I posted it merely to point out that doing so would not necessarily be disrespectful.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/10/2008 3:33:22 PM)

Thinking more about the question of disrespect . . .

Refusing a gift can definitely be done without the refusal being disrespectful (regardless of who the giver is).

What would make the refusal disrespectful would be the motives and actions of the person who is doing the refusal.
For example, literally throwing a gift back at someone would be disrespectful.
Being cruel with one's words or tone of voice when making such refusal would also be disrespectful.

Genuinely thanking the person for the gift while still graciously refusing it would not be disrespectful.

Additionally, as it relates to the OP, one should always follow Our Lord's Holy Spirit's convictions.
To accept a gift (regardless of from whom) if one is being convicted (for whatever reason) not to would be disrespecting both Our Lord and ourselves . . . which is never a good thing.

I'm still pondering the various aspects of the OP itself, so I'll comment on that when the vortex swirls come to a complete stop.

Is outward "adornment" sin?
Yes. While it is not a sin to wear fake jewels, it is a sin to wear jewels G-d made

Can women wear expensive clothing, just so it is modest?
"Expensive clothing" depends upon the resources of the wearer. Besides, if it was a gift, wear it.

Shoes and purses, nice or cheap?
It doesn't matter, as long as you wear nylons and don't show your toes. To show your toes is sinful. Just too sexy.

Are high heels giving off a sexual message to men?
No, because the pastor's wife wears them, and the pastor will pay the price when he gets home, if he says they are sinful. Just tell them that their shoes can't show their toes, because that's too sexy, and the pastor's wife's toes are too crooked and rough to show.

Please discuss all of these and any other thoughts on the matter of women adorning themselves.
And gold! Get rid of anything gold, fake or real. And don't fake it with "white gold"! Corruption and evil!

Wear dresses only, and make them long. Winter and summer, this applies for little girls, too, even when walking to school in deep snow. And women: Don't show your elbows. Don't wear jewelry that touches the skin, but it's all right to wear stuff on your clothes, as long as it doesn't touch your skin and it's all fake. Oh, but watches are fine. They don't matter, because they are tools. Just don't wear them on a necklace. And no watch-rings. On your wrist is all right.

Don't wear wedding rings! That is pure evil! They are right there on your skin, after all! Besides, if you are a good christian, everyone will know you are married, so you don't need no stinkin' ring.

OH! And I forgot the makeup! No makeup -- not even lipstick. Especially no lipstick!! That's the devil's coloring, you Jezebel! Evil! And they threw her out the window! And the dogs ate her! Is that what you want to happen to you? Well, you had better just watch your step.
