Well, I didn't expect to see YOU responding to my post tonight, LOL! So we're even. You've got my prayers. What sorts of places have you been applying to? What sorts of places hire psychologists (that's what you are now, isn't it?)? I'm hoping that another cup or two of Sleepytime tea and I'll be able to sleep--or at least try. My head's starting to nod.

ORIGINAL: magdaleine Oh Lord! Please bring comfort to Don and Betty. Our children aren't supposed to die before we do, God. And we all want our children to be followers of you through Jesus Christ but they make decisions beyond our control and we are helpless except for you. You see what we cannot and you see the whole, while we see only part. Why did this young man have to die before embracing you? Why dash the hopes of his parents, Lord? And yet all things work together for good for those who love you. ALL things. Can we believe this? Can Don and Betty? Please give them this hope and as time passes, enable them to see the good that comes from this tragedy. Keep their faith strong in the midst of their pain! Show them your great faithfulness and compassion! Fill their hearts with your presence and give them peace. In Jesus' name, Amen. Amen. Hope you and your family are better soon, Maggie.

Good Morning! Just finished ordering two new dog beds for my faithful friends. They both sleep in kennels at night and it was time for new soft pads to sleep on. Maggie, I hope you are feeling better. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. My sister's husband was diagosed with bladder cancer. Prayers for him would be most appreciated, thanks. Dove, I hope you're ok. Praying for you, too.

So, Shaunii, how do you feel about school? ;) Thanks for explaining about your work. You really enjoyed the job you gave up to go to school, didn't you? And that was a community service agency, wasn't it? Have you applied to the same agency again? You'd have good contacts there, I'm thinking. My family doctor referred to my psychiatrist as a "talking" doctor. So she does all the medical things but we also spend an hour a week talking. I still don't quite get how just talking helps though. I mean, sure, talking to a friend is helpful because you can get stuff out in the open and "off your chest." I guess the degrees help the therapist in how to guide the talk? My psychiatrist rarely gives advice or counsel. She listens and asks questions. Though this last visit, she was very, very adamant on the counsel she gave me. Dh is concerned about our finances and had some financial person come to the house who agreed that there is reason to be concerned. The only area where the two of them could see any "free" money to be used to help the problem is the money dh gives me each month--about half his salary. My psychiatrist does not want me relinquishing any of it or agreeing to be given less because it would be taking many steps backwards and would seriously harm me psychologically. I was quite surprised because I was quite willing to see how I could cut back. Since she rarely advises, when she does it's time to sit up and take notice. Good morning, Ray! BSW. Is that Bachelor of Social Work? Good morning, Pengie! LOL about keeping Shaunii in business for months just with your family! Your dogs will be grateful for their new beds, I'm sure. You take very good care of your animals. I'm sorry to hear about your brother-in-law discovering he has bladder cancer. I will pray. I left a note on the counter last night, asking someone, anyone, to make me tea in the morning and bring it up to where I'm sleeping because the hot liquid really helps me feel better. Dh was kind enough to do it but the tea he made tastes foul. How can a person ruin good tea so badly? And it isn't the first time. I sure do appreciate that he took the time and effort to make it and bring it to me, however, and so I'm drinking it. I'm not any better. Last night I was thinking that I might try and see my doctor this morning but to do so, I would have to be at his office before 8:00 and that just seems too much to do. I'm not any worse and I don't have a fever so I think I'll continue waiting. I sure didn't sleep much last night though. Everytime I lay down, I would start to cough. If I managed to lay down and not cough, when I put the C-PAP mask over my face and turned it on, THEN I would start coughing. I was up pretty much every hour and I think I got some sleep but not much. The hot bath I had at 4:00 a.m. was helpful. Too bad I can't immerse myself in a hot tub and go to sleep there. Dove, how are you doing? Like Pengie, I keep praying for you. {{{{{{{{{{{{Dove}}}}}}}}}}}}

quote:
She went to college while she lived down in Texas, waiting for her husband to return from Iraq. That's a smart daughter you have, Ray. She wasn't wasting any time, was she? And her studies would certainly take her mind off worrying--at least to a degree. quote:
I wear a Bi-Pap mask. Whenever I cough, the eardrums pop. That can't be pleasant! I went and did an image search to see what the difference is between cpap and bipap masks. Not much from what I can tell, but my search produced a photo of a wee little girl, maybe one year old or so, who uses a bipap for sleep and when she's sick. Poor little thing! But apparently it helps her lungs to work better, keeps her breathing more rythmically and gives the muscles around her lungs some exercise. I've often thought that the cpap has helped my asthma. I don't have nearly the trouble with asthma that I used to before the cpap. It's helped with upper respiratory problems too. This is the first time in years that the cpap has made symptoms worse rather than better by making me cough more. Shaunii, you explained well how psychotherapy works. Thank you. What you said makes sense. Would you return to your former employer when you have your license or will you be looking in other areas? That's cool about the insights you have gained about yourself in your own therapy and been able to make changes as a result. So, are you still driving with your leg half out the window? I'm not sure how I've changed from therapy. I'll have to ask the doctor what she's seen changed. Hi Trish! Dove, I'm stilly praying. I'm still sick. I don't like being sick. Friday night I was able to eventually lie down and sleep without constant coughing but last night I had to go try out the recliner and see if that would help. Not sure it did but it was a whole lot more comfortable than trying to sleep sitting up in bed. My sinuses have slowed down. I'm not using nearly as much tissue as I had been and my lungs aren't as productive as they were. I think what's happening is that I'm getting over the flu/cold but my asthma is kicking in. I've been taking my puffers since I got sick so that should be helping some. It wears me out so that even sitting at the dining table requires too much energy. Thankfully ds1 is storing his furniture at our place so I've been able to use his recliner. It's very comfy and relaxing. I wish I could have gone to church this morning. Ds1 is travelling in Europe. At the moment he's in Barcelona, Spain, having already been to Morocco, Seville and Paris. Not sure if I said this earlier, but he's using a cool system of accomodations called couch surfing. He connects with people online who have registered that they're willing to have travellers come sleep on their couch. Accomodation is free and often the host acts as tour guide of the city they're in. So far he's had wonderful experiences with the couch surfing hosts. Sure makes travelling more affordable. In a couple of days he'll be meeting a couch host at the Cannes Film Festival. Yesterday was his birthday. He was staying in a hostel and most of the guests at the hostel were Canadian so the whole group of them went out to celebrate his birthday.

My pressure setting is rather high. A BiPap has two pressure setting...one for inhale, and a lower one for exhale. It makes it easier to exhale against the pressure. My settings are 20/13. Most people's have settings in the range of 9 to around 13. I've talked to people that had as high as 32 though. When I had a sleep study done, the nurse explained that my settings were a compromise betweeen what I should have and what was reasonable. After I received the machine, I saw that the max setting on it was 20. quote:
last night I had to go try out the recliner and see if that would help. That's what I was going to suggest.

(((((((Maggie))))))) So sorry to hear that you're still sick! I've been and will continue to be praying. I've not been able to post lately, but I've been reading the posts, and praying for all of you. Hope everyone is doing better. My sister has to use the bi-pap machine. She won't even lay down, if the power goes off, cause she's afraid she'll stop breathing without the machine. She suffers from asthma and bronchitis too. She put it on to show me once, and I don't know how she ever got use to sleeping in it! But she assured me that, when it comes to getting a good breath, that you'll get use to anything for some help to breathe! Guess you and Ray know all about that, huh?

Thanks for the hug, Zondie. quote:
She won't even lay down, if the power goes off, cause she's afraid she'll stop breathing without the machine. Wow! I didn't know I had sleep apnea until a friend suggested that might be a possibility. I wasn't aware of stopping breathing at night but I had the problem in the daytime. The simplest things would trigger it, like choking on my saliva. This one particular time I was at my friend's and it was happening again so I quickly left the room to struggle with my breath in privacy. She followed me, figured out what was going on and advised me to ask the doctor about sleep apnea. I haven't had any trouble not breathing during the day since I started using the c-pap. I lay down for a nap this afternoon because I was so out of energy. I decided to try sleeping with the c-pap and to my surprise it did not trigger coughing this time. Wooo hooo! Thank you God! I had such a good sleep. quote:
She put it on to show me once, and I don't know how she ever got use to sleeping in it! Yeah, you get so used to it that I find it hard to go to sleep without it. I breath so much better with it on.

Ray wrote: My wife sleeps much better now too. I was concerned about the noise from the machine. But she says it's much quieter than my snoring. My husband snores so loud (sometimes) that it wakes me too. But most of the time it just sounds like 'purring', which is a soothing sound to me. But I think that if I slept in a room with one of those machines running, that the noise would relax me too. Sorta like a fan running all night or something.
