Wow, Maggie! Great new thread, but so sorry to hear you're sick (of course, I already knew this from chatting with you [;)]) . . . anyway, I've enjoyed reading here, and am so sorry I forgot to go hunt it up and subscribe the other day when you told me about it. Owell . . you know how crazy it's been here the last week.

Darcy, I so much enjoyed the photos of your daughter -- she IS beautiful!! Would love to see her perform. I love watching dance -- of just about any kind. I didn't realize you guys were so tall, either -- if we ever meet, remind me not to stand too close -- otherwise I'll strain my neck just to see your faces! [:D] . . . anyway, she's beautiful and the photos were fabulous.

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 10:39:58 AM)

I'm glad you found your way in, Linda.

Hisjoy -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 11:20:11 AM)

Darcy, I figured tall was best for ballet, had no idea 5'6" and under was it. Maggie, the realtor had one phone call and lots of hits on the web, but no one has come to view yet. Sorry your son is not doing better, and to hear that you're coming down with it. (((((Maggie & ds3))))) Can you post a video of the singing?

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 11:44:28 AM)

The girls in ballet need to be shorter than the men. Also, the shorter they are, the lighter they weigh (all else considered). AND you want the ballet corp to be more uniform than a wide range of heights would allow. Maybe there are other reasons that Darcy can give.

I'm sorry you've not had anyone coming to check the house out, Joy.

Thanks for the hug. I can't remember the name of the singing group at the moment so I can't go hunting for a website. Once I find out and if there is someplace where you can hear their music, I'll send you the link in a pm.

Just don't get the two confused. [:o][8D]

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 1:49:34 PM)

LOL!

True story: I'm the eldest of four girls with a big gap between the second and third. When the third was born, me and the sister next to me let the baby suck our noses. She loved it! I wonder if my mom ever knew. I think I was about eight at the time.

zondie -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 3:34:51 PM)

[sm=cool.gif] That brightened my day! I love a good laugh. Do you and this sister have noses that look any differently from the rest of the family?

Doveflight -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 4:29:55 PM)

[sm=wave.gif] Hi, feeling much better today, but tomorrow is another chemo treatment. I'll try to remember to stop in just to post a wave so you all know I am still hanging in there.

My friend lets their newborn kitties suckle on their earlobes. It is the most contented picture. I had never seen such a thing, but noses????

LOL! Nope. I'm glad I cheered up your day!

Dove, thank you so much for popping in. I'm glad you're doing a bit better today. These chemo treatments are really hard on you this time, aren't they? {{{{{{Dove}}}}}}

Yeah. It's kind of gross isn't it?

How are you, Pengie?

Darcyjo -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 9:42:34 PM)

Evening, all! [:)]

Maggie, that pretty well covers why tall women don't dance in ballet companies. If you are working with a male partner, he has to be able to lift you, and even a slim tall woman is still heavier than a slim short one. And yes, both my girls have taken ballet for years. Most modern and jazz dancers also take ballet, since it strengthens leg muscles, and my girls took it all the way through high school. I still have a picture of J dancing as Coppelia in her senior recital. [8D]

Oh, and Joy, in European companies they like their female corps de ballet to be shorter than they do here in the US. It's a good thing that my girls prefer modern, they were pretty well doomed as ballet dancers the moment they hit their growth spurts in puberty! [:D]

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 9:58:38 PM)

Well, there's more room for self-expression and interpretation in modern dance than in ballet.

Darcyjo -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 10:00:14 PM)

True. My favorite form of dance that I've seen the girls in is jazz......VERY cool! [8D]

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/7/2008 10:57:21 PM)

Yeah! It is!

Pengie -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/8/2008 9:12:30 AM)

Okay, here is my update:
First I went to the hospital for tumor related seizures (That's when I posted last.) Then I went back to the hospital for pain management. Seems their morphine IV is much better than my pills.[sm=unsure.gif]
I am on new meds to try to help control the seizures. No driving for me! Not that I did much anyway . . .

My daughter is down with a bad case of bronchitis. My Hubby is the one doing all the errands and such. He is working hard. I worry for him. Even if he is a stinker! lol

Hello to you Dove, sorry it is so rough right now - praying.

Thanks to everyone for all your prayers and kind wishes. I just wish the pain would let up a bit. That alone would be enough.

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/8/2008 9:46:58 AM)

Thank you for the up-date, Pengie. I'm sorry you're in so much pain. {{{{{{{{{{{Pengie}}}}}}}}} If the morphine via IV works better, then go for it! But I guess that has limited usefulness unless you check into the hospital for a prolonged stay. I'll be praying for you and your daughter. And good for your husband! He SHOULD be doing the chores when you are so sick! My hubby has been very good about keeping things going here too, and I really appreciate it. I look forward to when I can do it all myself (or much of it anyway).

My cold (or whatever it is) is moving from my sinuses to my lungs. I'm prone to bronchitis so I'm praying it doesn't become that. I'm taking my puffer starting today to see if that might help keep it from getting too bad.

Recipe for Wallpapering

Take one very sick mother and one grown son. Find the bag with the wallpapering supplies purchased three years ago and discover one forgotten hot water bottle, no wallpaper and no instructions. Send son to look for missing items. Read instructions five times. Discover that since the wall paint is glossy, glue needs to be applied to back of wallpaper. Read instructions on glue jar seven times. Carry everything to very tiny bathroom. Send son for a flat screwdriver, level and pencil.

Discuss best location for border. Discover the wallpaper is two inches too short. Change location of where border will be so it intersects wall cupboard where no border is needed. With level, draw line on wall. Remember wall needs to be washed. Check under bathroom sink and debate whether window cleaner is sufficient. No, it won't be. Son finds wall clear. Oops! Cleaning the wall will erase pencilled line. Try to clean carefully without too many erasures. Notice the remarkable difference between cleaned and uncleaned wall.

Try to open glue jar. Break fingernails in the process. Contemplate how to put glue on the back of wallpaper. Decide to use the back of the toilet on which to lay border for glue. Son questions if this is advisable. Mom assuredly confirms that it is. Mom huffs and puffs because she's sick and out of shape. Son offers to switch roles. Mother refuses. Notice that wallpaper must be turned glue side down to continue pasting. Do so. Realize that toilet tank is too short. Son holds end of border while mother paints wallpaper hanging in the air between his two hands. Mom huffs, puffs and wheezes. Fold over already painted part and continue. Change tactics and stop painting in the air because paper can be accordian folded in shorter lengths.

Prepare to attach to wall. Mother and son switch places. Son holds paper behind mother who is pasting it to the wall. Bathroom far too small. Mom huffs, puffs, wheezes and is glad she used her puffer in the morning. Oops! Two pasted sides have stuck together so that part of the wallpaper from one side rips away and stays stuck to the second side. Attempt to pull wayward strip of wallpaper backing from wrong side and put on right side. It rips more. Realize that more glue will be needed. Apply. Give up trying to fix torn strips and decide that if it shows through, that will be acceptable. Continue, warning son to ensure no more pieces stick together. More pieces stick. Add more glue to torn section. Finish attaching to wall. Trim excess with scissors and hope to get it right.

Dampen sponge. Use sponge to press out bubbles. Do not wipe sideways or paper will buckle and wrinkle. Press out wrinkles. Son sees edges that aren't sticking. Mom takes sponge to press them down. Son disagrees. Son takes toothpick with glue and applies to appropriate places. Press with sponge again. Decide it's as good as it's going to get.

Wash glue out of sponge, brush, toilet tank, wall, toilet seat, floor, hair, and hands. Leave remainder for son to take care of. Return to computer, huffing, puffing, wheezing and collapsing.

(((((((Dove, Pengie & dd, Maggie))))))) Praying for all of you.

Maggie, your above post should be printed in your local news paper, comics section![sm=icon_smile_tongue.gif] Hope it all turned out o.k.!

leah777 -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/8/2008 7:02:07 PM)

LOL!!!! Oh Maggie!! What a day to decide to tackle wallpapering!!!!!!!!!!! . . . . you poor girl! I surely hope you are recovering right now.

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/8/2008 8:14:40 PM)

It's a good thing I can type here instead of speaking because I've temporarily lost my voice.

Thanks for your hug and prayers, Zondie. I'm glad you enjoyed what I wrote. [sm=hammerhead.gif]

Yeah, Linda, it wasn't the best day but last week I had asked ds4, who's visiting for three weeks from Vancouver, if he would be willing to help me with this project that's been waiting for me to get around to it and because he was a loose ends today, he asked if we could do it right then. Since I wasn't doing it by myself and didn't realize how difficult it would be, I agreed. We should have read about hanging wallpaper before we began.

And yeah, Zondie, it all turned out okay, thankfully.[sm=dance.gif][sm=funny.gif]

Hey Maggie. Just trying to catch up on threads. I can't get into CW for days and I come back to a new thread!

Pengie -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/9/2008 1:28:03 AM)

LOL Maggie,[:D]! What a time you have had! too bad my hubby wasn't there to help. He has papered several rooms in our home quite well. Including the entry and dining rooms.

I woke up in pain tonight.[:@] So I took my meds and am waiting for them to kick in. I don't want to end up back at the hospital, that's for sure.

magdaleine -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/9/2008 3:21:42 AM)

Hey Trish! I'm glad you found us.

Pengie, I actually did paper a whole room when my boys were very little but I don't think I knew what I was doing then, either. Anymore wallpaper going up will be done by a professional. Actually, we have two rooms covered in wallpaper that look as if it was done when the house was built 90 years ago. I hear the old stuff can be nearly impossible to get off so I may have to hire a professional to do that too, when I'm ready.

I hope you didn't have to wait too long before your meds kicked in tonight. I went to bed at 10:00 but was still awake at midnight. I didn't check this thread right away or I might have caught you! Oh well.

_Cinderella_ -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/9/2008 4:45:17 AM)

sorry to hear you are sick :(

zondie -> RE: Magdaleine's Alabaster Atrium (5/9/2008 4:42:47 PM)

Hello everyone! Maggie, I hope you and your son are feeling better today. I can relate to your papering dilemma. I can do a pretty good job with someone helping me. But I too, have some old paper, that either needs to be stripped off (Ugh) or covered over with something. Don't think I ever want any paper put back on the walls though. I like changing the interior so often, that I think I'll go back to painting only.

(((((((Pengie))))))) Nice to see you posting in here. You know, I'm still praying! I don't want you to end up back in the hospital either!

Hi Cinderella, like that avatar!
