ORIGINAL: faroukfarouk I wasn't actually aware that there were so many touchy-feely issues involved with the simple act of using a gym. (What it someone is offended? what if I am offended? Do we really have to go into all that?) I think part of why this turned into such a discussion is; I (and it could have been an error on my part) took christianiron.com to mean a Christian (hardcore) Gym. I came to that conclusion, after looking at christianiron.com the website. Many of the people here, appear to work out at health clubs or fitness centers and have probably never set foot into a "real" gym. So their reference point is probably very different from mine (sort of like my reference point of driving on a Southern California freeway and that of a NASCAR driver). Maybe a better analogy would be reading a book. If someone here said, "I'm thinking about starting a Christian Book Club", many could respond with similar comments "why do you need a Christian one. I just read books I like and don't pay attention to what others are reading" or "it doesn't really matter what the book is about, we'll discuss the book from a Christian view". So in regards to the former, the whole point of a Book Club is about participating not ignoring. Same thing can be said for more serious gyms. It's near impossible to just go in and do your thing and ignore everyone else, when at some point, you're going to be attempting a 300, 400, 500 lb bench and are going to need spotters. As for the latter, though the goal may be to view a book from a Christian standpoint, many of us wouldn't find much enjoyment in reading some trashy or gory book to discuss. Like wise with some of the music, dress and attitude in most (hardcore) gyms.
