Mrs.X -> 20 Worst Foods in America (5/1/2008 11:58:26 PM)

From HERE. Just click on one through twenty.

Keep in mind, a man who is trying to keep a low-fat, high-fiber diet ought to consume no more than 55 grams of fat a day, a woman on the same diet ought to have no more than 45 grams of fat per day.

LaurainAL -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 2:57:25 PM)

Wow. That was an eye opener for sure!

StephK -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 3:15:16 PM)

dietfacts.com has the nutritional data for quite a bit of the fast food joints. One thing that's not usually easy to find is the sodium content. No wonder people are expanding rapidly. Some people eat out everyday for at least one meal sometimes two.

Miss Giggles -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 3:17:25 PM)

I have ate some of the foods on those lists, they are yummy. Remember what appeals to our tastes: salt, sugar and fat.

Obviously you shouldn't eat that food every day but once in a while.. yum!

Those Chipotle burritos are pretty good though (Qdobas is probably just as bad)

ta_mosquito -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 3:22:32 PM)

Worst Breakfast: Bob Evans Caramel Banana Pecan Cream Stacked and Stuffed Hotcakes

That just plain SOUNDS sinful! (But it sounds so GOOD, too!)

I love the descriptions, such as this one on the Worst Starter (Chili's Awesome Blossom):
quote:

It takes a special talent to turn a single oversized onion into the fat equivalent of 67 slices of bacon, but the line cooks at Chili's manage this horrific feat with the help of a thick batter, a calorie-loaded dipping sauce, and a vat of bubbling fat.

csl7037 -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 3:47:08 PM)

That was just gross! There's nothing on that list I'd even consider putting in my mouth! OK, I take that back, I'd share that worst dessert with dh - but I'd regret it!

Mrs.X -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/2/2008 4:36:26 PM)

I've never eaten the onion from Chilis, but I have eaten the Bloomin' Onion from Outback, I imagine they are similar.

And, wow, I thought McNuggets were bad. The chicken selects are even worse. They make it sound like they are healthier or something.

I'm only half-way through reading the list and I'm already hungry! [:@]

WOW, and I really liked the Italian Sub at Quiznos, and it's rated the worst sandwich!

quote:

1,510 calories
82 g fat
3,750 mg sodium
106 g carbs

A large homemade sandwich would more likely provide about 500 calories.

Next time, I may order a different sandwich. And if not, get the small.

Even subway's footlong italian does not equal this many calories and grams of fat!

Konstantinos -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/5/2008 8:53:27 PM)

106 carbs in a sandwich arent that much. 200 grams of bread should provide that alone. getting in some "healthy" cheese and meat could do the trick for the fat too [;)]

Except for those of us who watch our carbs and consume, in an entire day, just slightly more then the total of fat, calories, and carbs in ONE sandwich.

ta_mosquito -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/5/2008 10:07:56 PM)

The carbs figure isn't THAT bad, but the rest of the figures are!

That sandwich is almost all of the calories I'm to eat in a day, just on the ONE sandwich.

Calea37 -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/6/2008 7:34:36 AM)

Oh my goodness!!!!!!! After reading that I am in AWE that I don't weigh 200lbs!! LOL I have eaten some of that "food." Granted, I don't do it often, but it is making me SERIOUSLY rethink what my kids eat! [8|] Some of them were pretty funny...you can't expect to order cheese fries and have them be good for you, can you? [&:] Or that dessert....[8D]

granolagirl -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/6/2008 9:13:32 AM)

I'm very disappointed to see my favorite Chipotle burrito is on that list. [&o]
I am happy to see that most of the other things are from places we don't eat at. We rarely eat out anyway. It's expensive and obviously very fattening; not to mention seriously lacking in nutritional value.

Miss Giggles -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/6/2008 9:47:56 AM)

we have one by my work, you should here all the complaining AFTER they find out the calories .. LOL

Yeah, but the calories and fat in the sandwich are pretty surprising, and talk about the sodium content. [:@][:'(]

SkillfullGourmet -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/10/2008 4:06:22 AM)

For about 6 months, many years ago, my husband and I would go to the Outback once a week! We would get a half portion of cheese fries, share a steak/salad, and share a dessert. It would just be like $22 and we loved it. However, I gained like 15 pounds in those 6 months. I had a couple other eating habits that weren't that great at the time, but I'm sure those cheese fries did not help!

I loved them so much! :) Now I eat them about twice a year.

chemdude77 -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/10/2008 11:04:27 AM)

Chili's Honey Chipotle Crispers with Chipotle Sauce -- that was an eye opener!

Not surprised by Jamba juice, as their smoothies are loaded with sugar. Great way to get your afternoon crash [:'(]

crm4souls -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/11/2008 2:36:45 AM)

It's always shocking to see the facts. You have to be careful out there, it's a jungle.

locomom -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/26/2008 5:27:29 AM)

Most of that list was gross. I prefer Marcel DeSalnier's Death By Chocolate cake at the Trellis restaurant in Williamsburg, VA. It's incredibly sinful and somewhere around 100 calories a slice.

PrincessDonna -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/27/2008 8:15:16 AM)

I wasn't in pain until the last two. But since we only go out a couple times a year, I'm still going to have my Bloomin' onion or cheese fries when we do![:D]

Annie64 -> RE: 20 Worst Foods in America (5/28/2008 7:16:43 PM)

The only thing on that list that I really like is the desert, and even that wouldn't be my first choice. But I'm still overweight anyway. Sigh. [&o]
