Charlatan, demonic, false prophet, or heretic? Which is Todd Bentley? Some research indicates he may be one or all of the above. A friend told us how they had gone to see Bentley in Louisville, Ky. last weekend. She talked about the power of his "anointing", how he had been "anointed" by a "cloud of honey" etc. Anymore, I cringe when I hear the term anointed applied to a person. The Greek term Christos translates "annointed". To use the term "anointing" to as an ephemeral power that is separate from the Holy Spirit that is transferred like an energy source is completely unscriptural. This friend talked at length how "power" and miracles such as that must be from God. On the other hand.... Matt 7:21-23 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' NIV 2 Thess 2:8-10 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. NIV Matt 24:24-25 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect — if that were possible. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time. NIV Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K8XjObzfXM At 49 sec, Bentley asks why the power od God wasn't moving. He said the God replied, "Because you haven't kicked that woman in the face." I suppose some sort of spirit spoke to him, but it wasn't the Holy Spirit.
