Miss Giggles -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/1/2008 9:28:28 PM)

Me too, some of the stuff looks ok in the store but worse when you get it home. So I take a lot of stuff back.

crimsonfollower -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/1/2008 9:29:41 PM)

Nicole- cuz- but I want to see pics now so I know what the before/after is [:D]

Welcome caringnurse - not sure if you want me to use your name or not, but heads up, I will probably forget and use it soon anyway. [:D] Nicole told me you had been reading, have fun posting- I spend way too much time around here [:D]

So youth group went well tonight. I got to play with one of my "babies" which was lots of fun. She is usually a sleep by the time I watch her older siblings on Tuesday nights so the only time I see her is on Sundays. I really enjoyed getting her ready for bed, feeding her and whatnot. Oh, youth group was also good - not just for the babies [:D] We had a good crowd and had several new people there. We are having a retreat next weekend which should be lots of fun. I am really looking forward to getting to see these kids in a different environment where the pressure to "be cool" is not nearly as strong. Pray that this will be a good weekend. We have an amazing speaker coming, great praise and worship and lots of prayer has gone into this weekend. Several of the kids have already accepted Christ, but many of them have not or are not really living it out. I am excited to see what God will do through their lives next weekend.

Okay- off to bed. It has been a long day and I actually have to go to work tomorrow. [:'(]

No go with the kitten here. We just had a momma cat bring her first litter to the farm (they are now almost all grown). And naturally she is pregnant again. They are great mousers though! They were at the neighbors farm and I don't think they were being fed enough. They were so skinny when they got to our place. Then the people who own that farm (at the time no one was living there they were remodeling for their kids) asked for the cats back. So we told them to come get them. (they never did) So right now we have five "kittens" and the momma cat; along with our cat that we had to put outdoors (she kept peeing on the carpet in the basement) and then we have our frady cat Verbal inside.

BrowneyedAL -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 11:28:52 AM)

Morning ladies...I tried to get started reading...but all these people bringing in rent checks just keep making me lose my place...lol. I did get far enough to be able to say Congrats Nicole on the house! Other than that...I'll just say hope everyone has a great day (and that I hope Stacy's tooth feels better, than it did yesterday)

InBetweenDreams -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 4:53:21 PM)

Hey Lisa! I guess it is that time of the month for rent cheques hey? Must get busy!

We found a place to rent last night! It is a new house just a couple blocks away from our place now. We move out of here on the 31st and into the new place on the 31st so that will be a busy day. Luckily we don't have much to move anymore since I threw away most of our stuff. [8D] It doesn't have grass or a fence yet so we still won't have grass. We offered to help them build a fence and put down sod. She was so happy we offered and said she will think about lowering our rent. That would be nice! Three young guys are living there now and man is that place dirty! There are black fingerprints on every single wall from half way up all the way to the floor. [&:] And the carpets are stained really badly. Everything was very dirty. If they don't clean the owner will have to find a cleaning crew and charge those guys. Some people are just so messy. I don't understand how they could get every wall dirty like that. [&:]

And then after 6 months we will be moving into the place we bought which will be super exciting!

My brother came over today. He is staying with us till monday so that is cool! He brought his wii so we will be playing lots of Mario Kart and Resident Eeeeeevil. [:D] He's watching tv right now so that is why I am online. [sm=biggrin.gif]

nicole6598 -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 6:55:42 PM)

Nicole-great about the rental and your brother, hope you can beat him at wii!!

Stacy how is your tooth doing?

Thans fluff for asking, I am doing good a little tired and worn out but not too bad :)

Hi everyone else

BrowneyedAL -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 8:45:20 PM)

Nicole ~ Thats awesome about finding a place...and sadly, the filthy condition you described is just the tip of the iceburg to what I've found before...trust me...I could tell you stories to turn your stomach. I often wonder how anyone can live in the conditions I find sometimes. Without actually telling you stuff that, trust me, you don't want to hear...I'll give you an idea of how I determine what to charge someone who doesn't leave their apartment in reasonable condition. (And trust me when I say that I'm pretty easygoing compared to many managers about inspections...if I can tell they made an honest effort then they're usually good with me if their aren't any damages.)

Generally on a really bad trash out of course I charge the cost for any contract work (sheetrock repairs, carpet cleaning or replacement, plumbing etc.) that we bring in someone from the outside to do...but for the clearing out the just filth left I charge essentially our labor costs (for example if I had two of my guys trashing out an apartment for 2 1/2 hrs I'd charge the cost of their wages for that time) considering that I've charged people as much as $800 for my staff labor costs before...believe me that's a lot of man hours just to remove trash and debris...that should give you some idea how bad some apartments have been.

uponeagleswings -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 9:15:37 PM)

My teeth are pretty much the same. I didn't have any time yesterday and today to make phone calls during business hours and start checking into dentists. All of the talk in the mommy threads about wisdom teeth removal is making me REALLY not look forward to it, no matter where I end up having it done. [&:] Today I went and visited with a nice lady that I met while at garage sales this past weekend. She gave me a whole bunch of fabric for next to nothing. Now I have some scraps to experiment with, as well as some good fabric that I picked up at JoAnn's today.
Dh is feeling kind of under the weather, so we're skipping small group tonight (2nd time in a row), and keeping plans light for the weekend.

Miss Giggles -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 9:23:01 PM)

I couldn't imagine what some of the apartments look like. I've seen a bad one in person and I've seen those horror stories on wife swap. Those people think it's okay.

I am a little messy but I won't be filthy.

Don't get me wrong...Suzie Homemaker, I am not...my home is sometimes (ok, almost always) cluttered...unopened mail on the table, random shoes or dog toys in the floor, some drinking glasses in the sink that somehow land there instead of the dishwasher right next to the sink, sorted piles of laundry in the hall waiting for me to wash, an unmade bed, or a trash can that really needs to be emptied....that sort of thing...but I think that's just life. Especially life with a full time job and a family...but there's a big difference between that and literally rooms (or storage closets) full of garbage...not trash, but rotting garbage...or floors so covered in pet waste (well if I'm lucky it's the pet's...lol) that it actually takes an effort to walk through the room.

uponeagleswings -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/2/2008 9:37:04 PM)

Lisa- you've just described our house most of the time, and we don't even have kids to blame it on. I blame the kitties instead.

My dad has done work in the housing projects of Detroit, and he's seen some places that were so bad he wouldn't even come inside after work without stripping down first.

Been in those places before...I, no joke, have gotten in the shower and scrubbed myself with bleach after an eviction before, and I wore surgical gloves during. (Unlike some states, here, the property management is responsible for removing the belongings of the tenant, while the sheriff oversees)

It is not a pleasant experience, but you will live through it. Once your mouth is healed you mostly forget about the trama and are glad it is done.

crimsonfollower -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/3/2008 6:09:04 AM)

Stacy- no it isn't fun to get those teeth out, but you will feel better in the long run (my headaches decreased after having mine out) and eventually start to forget the pain.

Weekend plans
I think today I pretty much get to stay around the house - which is good since I didn't on Thursday when I was off and still have a lot I want to get done this weekend. Tomorrow is Church, probably lunch out somewhere, maybe getting my nails done (I love that because it is like next to nothing to get a "professional" job done on them down here [:D]) and who knows what else we will come up with. The student teachers who have being living with me for the past 6 weeks leave on Monday so we have been doing a lot to make sure they have a great weekend.

Have a good day- I am going to get up and see what I can get done this morning.

McGuinessMagee -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/3/2008 7:18:28 AM)

Hey everyone! It's a long weekend here so I may have some time to keep up.

This is the second long weekend in two weeks. Last weekend was the ANZAC Day long weekend. This week it's Labour Day.

Nicole, great news about the new rental. Like Lisa I won't share some of my horror stories from when I was a property manager doing house inspections. [:'(]

I need to head into Target tomorrow and get my deposit back on a layby I made there. Dh and I put some stuff on layby there the other night (because they had specials on) but they didn't have one item we wanted, so we went to Pillow Talk to see if they had that one item. When we got to Pillow Talk we discovered that we could get all the stuff I'd laybyed at Target plus the other item for much less. Even adding in the $170 throw (I finally found the exact coloured one I've been looking for for months to go in our bedroom) + the item we actually went to Pillow talk to find, the layby at Pillow Talk is only $40 more than the one at Target, without those items, was.

I guess their Specials weren't so special.[&:]

Nicole- that is great you found another place until your place is ready, also I havent got to play Mario Kart yet but my sweeties sister just bought it so might get to go over and play it today lol

Nicole~ How is your dad doing?

This guy my sweetie works with invited him to go riding with him today and then said his gf and son were coming along so my sweetie wants me to come along too... but of course they said it was going to rain today, I looked at weather and nothings changed infact calling for thunderstorms.

crimsonfollower -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/3/2008 11:02:58 AM)

I have a table and 6 chairs for me new house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means I can have my family over to eat and we can all sit down!!!!!!! Or my cousin and her family [:D] I am excited about all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nicole (cuz) - what things do you have for your house yet????? [:D]

Okay- I really do need to get something done yet today. I still haven't done much today - went to the store so I have food to eat this next week [:D] I still would like to work on some packing/sorting of belongings since I will be moving in a little bit more than a month [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

RepentanceIsRequired -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/3/2008 11:22:42 AM)

We have beds (need to get one mattress for Zach), couches, and we have our electronics. Mom, dad and Ryan are on their way to pick up a table and chairs (6 chairs which will need to be re-upholstered) and they have an entertainment center which we will turn into a wardrobe for Ryan. The closets are small and have a slanted ceiling so rather than Ryan crawling into the closets and hitting his head all the time, we got him a wardrobe. The three things left are washer/dryer, refridge, and microwave.

crimsonfollower -> RE: May Flowers....Women's Chat Thread (5/3/2008 11:38:54 AM)

Glad you have all of that stuff already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My list is still pretty long, but I have a little bit more time to find some of those things yet. I understand on the sloped ceilings - I can't tell you the number of times my dad hit his head in our house before we remodeled - Jana's room was the worse- if he walked straight into the room he was fine, but there wasn't much room for him to walk side to side with the ceiling in the way [:D]
