The helmet thing... This has ALWAYS been a rule. I have ALWAYS worn a helmet. So it's not like it's a double standard. We go to the bike shop and I let them pick it out. If they want an army dude bike helmet, so be it. Ds2 picked his because it has a cool flame job. Heck, I DON"T CARE what it looks like. But ya gotta wear it! I don't care what your friends do. You gotta wear your helmet!
btw--bicycle helmets should only be worn while riding/skate boarding/etc. NOT while just playing. A child was hanged when he wore it while climbing a tree and fell. The helmet got stuck and he couldn't get his feet under him.

I can deal with broken arms and legs. Those heal. I don't wanna deal with traumatic brain injury. Those don't always heal.

sorry I can't do much with the grain that is going on there but I did get rid of the pink. I like pink but NOT like that shot had in it.

Ds got a big bag of hand me downs on Friday and he just put on one of the pair of pants. It has a build in belt. It's so cool. THey are from Lands End. It is the equivalent of those adjustable waistbands except that instead of being inside with buttons it's done like a belt and buckles at the belly. This family that gave it to him has a lot of money and their kids go to the Christian school so he gets a lot of button down shirts and polo type shirts (both long and short sleeved). They are all from places like Gap and Children's Place. I think he could go about 8 weeks without needing to wear something twice.
ETA: That's 8 weeks of Sundays not 8 weeks of every day.
Also, this boy has the same name as my ds and there was a t-shirt that was decorated for him with his name on it.

I used to get a LOT of handy-downs for the boys and it was such a blessing. The last couple of years, though, it has been limited to my brothers' outgrown things. The problem with that is that only one of my brothers is the same shape as Brandon, lol. So I have a box of Wes' Tommy jeans that are long enough for Brandon to wear but about six inches too big in the waist. I am hanging onto them to see if Nate will be that shape, lol...well, I think I have fewer now, come to think of it. Li'l Sis and I found that they fit HER waist, but are a foot too long, so we cut a pair up and made shorts and a purse for her. Then I gave a couple to Goodwill that were torn at the bottom.
Brandon wears a boys' 16 right now and they are about two inches too big around, but he wears a belt. The problem is that he is having a growth spurt and where do we go next? I can sometimes find boys' 18 pants (and he prefers old-fashioned five-pockets!) but they are generally 'husky' and this kid has a waist that is about 25 inches around. So the next step is men's sizes...which are great for length but again, don't fit him in the waist!
And neither boy likes to wear shorts! 
We are going to Yakima today with my mom to take Grandma out to lunch for her birthday.

Sigh... I'm in the same boat with ds1. A couple of my running friends have the same problem. They swear by Levi's. Levi's actually come in 28's!
Luckily, my guys could care less about brands. They'll wear whatever fits. Right now, they're wearing Wranglers. ANd a good belt!
It's a beautiful day here. I'm stalling going for my run. I still have a bit of an upset stomach. And there are no port-a-john's along my route...

Awesome, Zoe!
When we were first married, Brian wore 30x34 jeans. They were next to impossible to find. He now wears 33x34, which are also hard to find, so we have to settle with 34x34 and belts.

I just want to clarify. The T-shirt was the other boy's first and since they ahve the same name it could be handed down. When I reread I realized it maybe sounded like it was made for my ds.
These boys are the same grade too but because the age cut off is early in PA the other boy is only a year older than mine.

Our grocery store has a thing where every once in a while they will say "Buy X number of these products and get 20 cents a gallon off your next fill up"
Well, this week between sales, $1 coupons and this week they are doubling $1 coupons if I buy:
2 suave deoderants for 69 cents each
suave body wash: free
suave shampoo either 89 cents or two for free (i don't know if shampoo is considered a hair cair product. the coupon only shows thintgs like hair spray and gel).
If I do that I will save 20 cents a gallon. Normally it takes $200 in accumulated purchases to save 20 cents a gallon.
They have another list of products to save another 20 cents and I may do that one too.

We were really blessed with hand-me-downs when the kids were smaller, but the well has pretty much run dry now. Ds kept outgrowing all of the kids that were handing down to him when he was little. Now, he's in the same boat as some of your sons & almost out of boys sizes! He was never a slim before, but could probably wear those now. He has some jeans we got at a thrift store that are huskys & he has the little elastic button things pulled as tight as they can & still wears a belt. Luckily, he likes to wear t-shirts untucked, so you can't really tell that they are WAY too big on him. I think those will be too short for him by the time fall rolls around anyway. Dd is a bit chunky, but not really tall for her age, so finding things to fit her is sometimes tricky too. I was frustrated trying to figure out if they have husky for girls. I found some that are 1/2 sizes & that appears to be like plus for women.
Zoe - I understood that you meant it was made for the other boy!! That is so neat!! I was given hand-me-downs a lot when I was growing up. I was really small for my age, so I even got hand-me-downs from my best friend's little sister! One day I was at an amusement park & wearing one of her old soccer t-shirts. Some guy kept shouting "Kathy, Kathy" behind me & later I realized that he was shouting at me because the back of my shirt said Kathy on it.

One of the neatest "hand-me-down" stories... Mom used to make all of our clothes. There was one outfit that she made for my sister that was really a favorite. My sister was heavier than me, so her hand-me-downs rarely fit. Mom gave away most of these clothes. One day at church there was a group visiting. And there it was--a girl was wearing that outfit! It looked so pretty on this girl. Turns out that it was her favorite outfit. Mom was thrilled!
