I had a checkup today and everything looks good. I've gained 4 lbs total now and the baby's heartbeat was 153. So... I'm having a girl, right?

Our heartbeat has consistently been at 155bpm...I think you are having a boy. I cant remember, how many weeks are you now? You should be finding out the gender soon right? Are you gonna find out?

I'm 16 weeks. We have our next sonogram at the end of July and can find out the gender then if we want to. But... I want to know and Gabe doesn't, so if I can't convince him in a month, then we probably won't find out. If he really doesn't want to know, then I don't want to know either because I wouldn't be able to not tell him

I hope you can convince him. Klay is a bigger planner than I am so he wanted to know even worse! I knew it wasnt much longer until you found out!

How do you know the baby's heartbeat? I have heard the heartbeat but have not been told how many beats per minute.

In my case, you bring a notebook with you to every appointment and get a reputation as the annoying lady who writes down everything Or you could just ask your doctor next time she listens to the heartbeat.

My dr always tells me the heartbeat. They dont tell me stuff like what my BP is though. So I think it depends on the dr. The one time she didnt tell me I just looked over her shoulder as she wrote it down.

The nurse always checked the heartbeat at my doctor's appointment before the doctor actually came in. Every nurse that ever did it told us what the heartbeat was without having to ask.

Wow! That is so cool Amy. Hopefully Gabe decides he wants to find out. Lorne told me that if I want to find out and he doesn't that he doesn't have any choice but to find out because it's up to me. I have no clue if I would want to find out or not...

Man, I feel so far behind with all you pregnant ladies... I feel bad.

Erin, you are 6 months already? Seems like it should be 2. I am still sad I can't be there to meet you and your baby.

I have never had the nurse check the heartbeat. I am going in for the ultrasound on Tuesday and will ask the doctor about the heartbeat. The nurses in my doctor's office always tell me my weight and blood pressure, which is all that they check.

Thats how mine does it. The nurse weighs me, sends me to pee in a cup, tests the pee, takes my BP, then listens to the baby's heartbeat. And then the dr comes in, asks me how I feel, if theres any questions, and thats it. (So far anyway)

For me, they send me to do a urine sample as soon as I walk in the door and then I wait for a while in the waiting room until a nurse takes my weight and blood pressure. Then I go to a room if one is available or back to the waiting room if not. After I'm in a room, my doctor comes in a checks me, checks the heartrate and asks how I feel and if I have any questions. It sounds like I'm in the waiting room for a long time, but at my appointment today, I left less than 45 min. after getting there, so it isn't that long. It's just a lot of back-and-forth

I forgot to ask earlier... at this appointment (16 weeks), I had to pay my portion of the delivery costs. That seems so early to me, since the baby isn't even due until December. Is that normal or is it just my doctor? I'm not sure when I'll have to pay the hospital fee or even what to expect it to cost. I like planning and I don't like not knowing something

I get to my appointment, go pee in a cup, wait in the waiting room, the nurse takes me back and weighs me and gets my bp, then the doc comes in and asks how I feel and if there's any questions, and then listens to the HB with doppler. I usually have to ask what my BP was, but I've never had to ask for the HR, they always tell me. The lowest mine has been is 145, the highest was 188. I'm pretty consistently in the 160's. My shortest appointment was literally 15 minutes from walking in to walking out. The only time I've really had any questions was this past appointment, and those questions were related to waterparks and how long I can travel for.

That's basically how it ended up with us. I really really REALLY did not want to find out. My hubby really did want to find out. But I think it came down to the fact that I actually felt a lot stronger about it, and I'm the one carrying the kid. So we didn't find...and hubby is totally fine with that now and is excited about the surprise, too.

Well, we're going up by my family for my baby shower this weekend. I am SO excited!!!

I have my ob/gyn appointment tomorrow at 11. I need him to check my appendix scar as it seems to have grown hard since taking the staples out and am not sure if that is normal.... am feeling baby move... just praying everything is fine at the end. I can't wait till I hear the nurses say.. "he is a healthy boy" after all I have been through...

HomelessMentality has not logged in or posted since January, so we should take her off the list, I think.

Kelbel hasn't logged in since May 23rd. Are ya there, Kelbel?

HMB22 hasn't posted since February, but did log in a couple days ago. Are ya there, Heather?

The rest are newer, so I didn't look them up. I don't like when people get added to the list and then don't come back.

When I was at the doctor's today, there was a really young girl (13 or 14??) there for her first OB appointment. I really wanted to talk with her and her mom but there were a TON of people in the room and they were gone when I came out. She is 5 months along and her mom just found out last week. For a long time, I've felt a pull toward being a mentor for teen moms, and this girl just looked so hopeless. She's still very heavy on my heart. Would you guys please pray that I will run into her and/or her mom out and about in town and that God will guide me in how to share His love with them? Thanks.

Donna I used to find that annoying too when names would be there and you never heard from them again!

Wow, 13 or 14 is soooo young! I will pray for her and an opportunity where you or another Christian can speak into her life! Is there a programme at your church for teens that you could get involved in?

I hear you there, Donna. Been wondering about some of these ladies myself, but I just figured they hadn't been online recently...something. Oh and I will pray for you to be able to touch this young girl somehow. Wow...13/14 seems so young to be having a little one....(((praying)))

Wow, it looks like there are variations at doctors. I go in, get weighed and BP with nurse, pee in a cup, go to the individual room and only have contact with the doc after that. The doc does the baby's heartbeat, asks if I have any questions, etc. My doc is really good about explaining questions I do have and paying close attention to what I am asking. I am thankful for that. I do want to ask about the heartbeat next time though. I am so excited about the ultrasound on Tuesday. I hope the baby is going to cooperate.

Artemis - Like you, I am paying for my delivery and all of my OB appointments. At my first appointment the doctor's office got my insurance and sent me a letter stating how much I have to pay by my 32nd week, I believe. The total costs include the delivery costs of the doc. I believe I will get a bill from the hospital after the baby is born - same way with any others who bill in the hospital like the anestesiologist (sp?).

Donna - I am praying for that young lady and that God will work to help you know what to say to her.

Typically we post that the baby arrived, the gender, weight, height, and name. Some of the women let their contact know when they head to the hospital and updates throughout labor.
