Donna-Yep, Torch is flashlight, yet another word to add in that american/brit folder :)

The word flashlight would be considered rather dated/old-fashioned here - unless it meant a really big torch.

Sarah, can you post that link to the baby sleep information? I think it was you that did it a while back but I can't remember which thread or exactly how long it's been.

Gideon's not sleeping that badly, especially for just 6 days today. Last night he decided to cluster feed from midnight to 3. Every time we got him down he'd wake up 15 minutes later and get more and more upset until I put him on me. He'd eat and go back down and wake up 15 minutes later and we'd start all over again. The night before that was great though. He only woke to eat at 12, 3 and 5:30 then not again until 8:30, and he'd eat and go back to sleep. I think he is getting a bit addicted to BFing to calm down. My DH is a pro soother but can't do squat for this baby. I don't mind Gideon wanting to nurse for comfort but I'll have issues (like I'll go slightly insane) if we can't find someway for DH to help me out at night by being able to soothe him as well.

yeah that's the one that I post often with regard to baby sleep patterns. Kath put it in the informational links thread. (I can't seem to pull up that site right now though...maybe they are having trouble or down time or something)

I agree, but I think Yolanda was more referring to her not dumping her baby somewhere, as sometimes happens when a teen mom has kept the entire pregnancy a secret.

Yes, that is what I meant... I think I was in a hurry and couldn't think out the whole thought properly.

Wow Manda, I get to be in your siggy? Cool!

Biruk turns one tomorrow!

He surprised me yesterday--picked up a fork and used it effectively. He was sitting on my lap and I looked down and there he was, spearing peas and putting them in his mouth. He even was holding it that way. Either that was a really weird fluke, or this kid has some serious dexterity.

Happy early birthday to Biruk! Cappuccino baby extraordinare

Nathan has been trying to use forks and spoons, and he's getting better and better every time, though he still holds forks kinda wrong. He'll use his hands if he has to, but he really, really wants to use utensils.

His favorite spoon practice? Well, when we go to a coffee shop, we ask for a cup of whipped cream in a small cup, put it in front of Nathan, give him a spoon and let him have at it. Every time he makes less and less of a mess.

Happy early birthday Biruk!

Jael was humming along with a tune Joel made up at dinner tonight! It was the amazing singing daddy and his two girlies. Tons of fun! OH! And Hannah was blowing bubbles in the bath tonight (practice for the pool, lol) and Jael saw what she was doing and tried to do them herself! I'm so amazed every day by my sweet wee ones!

I know I'm chiming in late on this - but I've locked 2 of our kids in the car.

The first time was Emma, and thankfully dh was close by and just had to go get our extra set of keys - so it was around 10 minutes.

The 2nd time was when I was highly pregnant with Jacob, I locked Olivia in the truck at Subway. And the cell phone was locked in there too! I had to stop a random stranger and borrow their phone to call my inlaws (dh was at the older girls hockey game with no cell reception), and FIL drove down with the extra set of keys to open up the door - I stood out there for about 20 minutes waiting.

OK, I read that and for a fleeting moment I wondered why you were posting on Crosswalk while two of your kids were locked in the car.

Quick question about locking children in the car: how does it happen? I am not asking to be rude, just curious. I am afraid to ask this because I have yet to do it and now that I am asking this watch it happen...hopefully not though. With both our cars we have the alarm clickers so the doors do not get locked until we are all out of the car and all the doors are closed. Even with the key in the ignition the car does not automatically lock until I have reached a certain mileage.

With my car at that time, you could either lock the car manually with a key or, when you got out, if you shut the door with the handle lifted up, it would lock all the doors too. That's how it happened with me.

I have heard of "quirky" moments, with central locking (automatically with a click), where someone has thrown the keys on the seat, then shut the door, and it has locked itself from the inside (no idea how).

in my case, it was our car in japan. It had a keyless entry, and I was going to pick up hubby's dry cleaning. It was a million degrees outside, so I left the car running with the ac on, locked it with the keyless entry and went in (we were on post, and japan is tons safer than us anyhoo)
When I came back out though, the keyless entry wouldn't work at all!

Wow, can't believe Biruk is 1 already! Happy Birthday! Are you going to make a cake and have a little party for him?

We haven't decided which day to have Jimmy's party because my mom doesn't know what her work schedule is going to be yet. So, whatever day she doesn't work during that week, that's when we'll have it. I'll probably make a cake from a box, and I have a small little heart shaped tin that I can make his own little special cake for him to dig into.

Well, I think Jimmy has another ear infection. I feel horrible. I know it couldn't possibly be my fault though because I'm so careful. Never get water in his ear, he doesn't come in contact with smoke, he doesn't get a bottle flat in bed, I cover his ears when it's windy. This will be his third one, and I guess if he has another one, the doctor will recommend to get tubes in his ears. Apparently I was really prone to ear infections as a kid. My mom said I was almost non-stop on amoxicillin or penecillin for the the first 5 years of my life. They didn't come out with the tube procedure until the early 90's though. Poor guy. I hope they give him azythromiacin again, that stuff was fast.

LOL, yesterday after I put Timmy down for his nap, he pooped. He usually poops when I put him down for a nap, and then I have to go in there and change his diaper again. I almost think he saves it so he has an excuse to come out in the living room. Anyway, I went in there, and he had stuck his hand in his diaper and got poop all over his hand and rubbed it on his chest. It was gross. I just put him right in the rub and washed him off with the showerhead while Robert changed his sheets. Yuck!

Ugh, Christina, that's gross... I can't wait for those kind of messes, I just know i'm in for it! He already sticks his hands in it when I change him.

My nephew had a ton of ear infections when he was little, and they took him to the chiropractor and she did a couple of treatments, and he was alright after that. I guess there was something out of place in there, and everything kept getting all plugged up.

Manda, is there any homeopathic remedies you would recommend for sinus troubles for babies?

Chase is getting so good at falling! He used to just fall and bang his head on everything, but he's good at turning to land on his hand, or catch himself, or hold his head up so he doesn't hit it. He's catching on quick!

We had our party yesterday. Just my folks and one of my sisters. My mom brought waaay too many toys. Asrat got introduced to Playmobil. Fun, fun, little pieces of plastic all over my house. And a trampoline. Which I need to put together still.

Quick question about locking children in the car: how does it happen?

In my case, it happens because we have automatic locks. We *have* to lock our car doors in our area, and so I have gotten into the habit of hitting the lock button whenever I get out of the car. Unfortunately, on occasion I hit the button and shut the door before I realize my keys are still sitting on the car seat. It's usually that split second before the door shuts when I realize what I've done. Haven't done that in a while but I still occasionally panic after I shut the door, and make a frantic search for my keys.
