I also got Dr. Sear's Vaccine Book. Can't wait to get reading and highlighting it. Sarah, you might find other homeschool stuff for the kids. They have a TON of great stuff, but I'm sure you know that already.

LOL....ok, so we are up to about $34.....Paul wanted to get something for each kid and found some good ones....we found one about elections, and since it's an election year we figure the kids would love that one!!! We just have to find one more thing to make it more then $35...pretty easy to do...lol

We also found THIS....for Jake's birthday in three months. He doesn't need a lunch box, but the whole "army" thing is totally him and he is all the time trying to find boxes to keep things in. Right now he is on a "spy" kick...he puts together his spy kit in a cereal box that he so desperately wanted to save (because it had a fingerprint thing on the side of it...lol). Anyway...he could use that lunch box instead!!! Much more sturdy then a cereal box....lol

On a baby/toddler note... We have decided to switch Hannah and the new baby over to the female pediatrician at the office my mom works in. Hannah because I want her to be comfortable with her doctor and I think this doctor will be better for her than our 50 year old bald man family doctor (who I love...but for a little girl, I think she will do better with a lady doctor). This pediatrician has a daughter Hannah's age and just had a new baby also. We've seen her a couple times when our regular doctor couldn't see us, and I really liked her. We're taking the baby there because my mom asked her how she felt about delaying and spreading out vaccines, and I liked the answer she gave. She leaves it up to the parents, but does expect them to do the research first.

LOL, Sarah! I knew you'd ask that! Not tellin'. Seriously, if the baby is a boy, we'll still go with this doctor until shots are done and then switch him over to our male doctor. If the baby is a girl, then we won't need to switch back.

Our current doctor will do whatever I demand, but I may have to demand, KWIM? I don't want to have to fight over every single shot. My mom told me I may be the talk of the break room, but who cares? Levi has a well child appointment next week, and he's due for his MMR and varicella. He's getting neither right now. We'll do the MMR, hopefully separately, around 2, and the varicella at 11 or 12, or sooner if he goes to school at some point.

ORIGINAL: Royal.Fortress When I asked our new family doctor about delayed vaccination or not vaccinating, she seemed supportive. She said she has lots of patients who don't vax but has never had a parent who wanted to delay vax's - she said people either do or don't vax. She gave me a list of the vax's to look over and discuss before we bring the baby to her for shots. I'm so glad that she didn't look at me like I had three heads when I mentioned it! I haven't read Dr. Sear's book yet (just got it today!), but the info I've read on the book says it isn't pro or anti-vaccine. It's just information and has some suggested schedules for delaying and/or spreading them out. I like that it's not pushy either way (supposedly). I just want the information and then I'll decide for myself. Sidenote...Brian defers to me on all these kind of decisions. I'll let him know the plan, but he trusts me 100% to do the research and make the decisions like this.

Oh goodness, when the story starts out.. "I honestly didn't know he was sick", then you know it's interesting. Nathan and I were out running errands when I decided to stop into a Starbucks, as I was waiting for my drink Nathan began throwing up something bad over both of us. It wasn't just a little spit up. The only thing I could do really was hold him. The baristas were really nice, actually, they brought out towels and a bag for Nathan's clothes. He was so bad that I decided clean up was a lost cause I just just stripped him down to his diaper. Public indecency laws prevented me from taking off my own shirt, though I really wanted to. I was next to clothing stores, but I just wanted to get us both home ASAP. He threw up again in the car (dh cleaned the car seat) and twice more at home. He wouldn't nurse, but he did sip some water before taking a nap in my arms downstairs. It's been a long, long time since that's happened. He's up now with his dad and looking much better. Drinking pretty well. But holding a puking baby in the middle of Starbucks is a memory that's gonna stick with me for a long time.

Yup. I might even go back to say thanks, but without the sick baby in tow. Honestly, it was a huge shock to me. I knew he wasn't feeling completely sunny and chipper, but with a non-verbal toddler, I couldn't tell the difference between a little cranky and sick. Just minutes prior he'd been having a great time at the play area and looking at the animals at the pet store. Even though it was 2pm on a weekday, they were pretty packed with customers, so I'm sure they wanted to keep things as calm as possible, but they seemed genuinely sympathetic.

Even with a verbal child, they don't give warning sometimes. One time, we went to church and all the kids acted fine all morning. Nick puked as soon as we walked in the door, and Noah was puking within an hour. I felt awful that we had exposed everyone in church to a tummy bug...but we had NO idea they were sick!

My brother went from fine to puking in the middle of a high school science class- even much older ones don't always expect it! ((Ruth and Nathan))

I've read through the first 5 chapters of The Vaccine Book. Highly recommend it. Very, very informative without being overwhelming, and it is neither pro- nor anti-vaccine, just as the review said it was. It gives both the pros and cons for each individual vaccine. I need to get through to the MMR chapter before Levi's appointment Monday. Yes, I know I could skip ahead, but I just can't do THAT!
