Nicole, I feed Jimmy on one side at a time every three hours or so too. It works out nicely for time management.

My last two babies, I have usually only nursed one side per feeding, except in the very beginning.

Kat, you're my inspiration. If your baby can breastfeed for until 22 months after having nipple preferance--even after you exclusively pumping for 5 months--then Josie can do it!

Well, we couldn't get Josie latched today. The plan of action is for me to snuggle a lot more with her, even holding her during some of her naps during the day. Hopefully after two weeks of this she'll be more comfy close and my supply will be boosted, and ultimately, she'll latch.

In the meantime, I heard from a friend at MOPS who knows of a doctor in MS who specializes in breastfeeding! She's only 1 1/2 hours away and not far at all from my SIL's house. AND she's in network for our insurance and she's considered "family practice" so it should just be my copay!!! I'm going Monday.

I second what Donna said!! I'm always impressed by mommies who go to great lengths to give their babies breastmilk..

I love this thread! I'm not currently nursing....I nursed my daughter till she was 14 mos old. I weaned her suddenly- I had to go to an out of town funeral for 4 days and was unable to take her. I had planned to anyway- she was nursing just once a day, and I was getting very sore (I am expecting baby #2) but it was hard on both of us.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I really appreciate this thread. Most people I know don't think that breastfeeding is that important....so it's nice to "know" some ladies who do!

Hello! Not a nursing mama yet, expect to be by the end of sept. Was a nursing mama for two years not so long ago. That's why I'm here.

I posted this in the preg thread, but no bites. I have a nice, hardly used nursing bra, size 40DD Leading Lady. I am giving it away. I cannot use it, it is sitting here on the desk, I am so far away from this size, it will just take up space. If anyone wants it, please pm me. Thanks!

Kathryn - When I first saw you post that I was going to pm you, but unfortunately over the past two days I realized I need a bigger cup. I'm starting to fall out top and bottom of my bra.

Tammy, you are truly amazing to be so determined

Hunter nursed both sides every feeding from the beginning. It wasn't until the last 1-2 months of nursing that sometimes he would only want one side and refuse the other, but still most times he would eat off both.

I'm Kimberley (yes there's an extra 'e' there in my name ) and I've nursed two sweet babies. I nursed my first, Hannah for 7 months. We got off to a bad start with a nipple shield (wrongly given in the hospital) so I was forced to pump pretty much after every feeding the entire time. When she was 5 months old we realized that the Metformin I was taking was affecting her metabolism so we started supplementing with formula to get her weight up. I quit nursing 2 months after that.

I nursed my second baby, Jael for just over 12 months. I was able to feed her exclusively from my breast without pumping, shields, or formula. I'm so grateful that the Lord allowed me that experience with her. I met my goal of a year of bfeeding and I'm proud that I was able to do that.

For all of you that have had your wisdom teeth pulled - when was the pain the worst? The first 12 hrs after the freezing wore off? The 2nd day? The 3rd day?

So far I have only had the bottom two out, and the second day was the worst for me.

I hardly ate anything for two weeks after my "surgery." The gums around my other molars were swollen and not attached to my teeth, so any time I tried to eat anything it all got stuck down there and I hated it. The first real meal I had was on this dinner "cruise" we took on Memorial Day weekend.

Just wanted to say that my book "Nursing Mother, Working Mother" came in. I have read a few chapters and skimmed over it all and it looks great! I love the "tone" that its written in, very supportive and encouraging, very much a "you can do this" attitude. Made me feel encouraged from the start. It also seems to really focus on how to pump AND be able to actually nurse when you are with baby (which I am very interested in). So far...I recommend it!

Thanks for the prayers guys. Keep praying! I'm still feeling rotten. I'm in constant pain - during the night it got really bad, I'm assuming because I went longer between pain meds due to sleeping. As long as I keep up the pain meds it's bearable, but still constant. I'm sure hoping tomorrow is better. It's been over 48 hrs - well, 56 actually but who's counting?

I am SOOOO thankful Jacob is a good baby - I don't know how I'd be surviving if he wasn't. Our 3 yr old has been watching too much tv - but you do what you gotta do to get through I guess.

It might be a little late, but personally I'd be taking (homeopathic) arnica for the bruising.

Tammy, I only got 2 wisdom teeth removed a couple years ago, and it was almost painless after the surgery. I think I took 2 painkillers.

I've heard that getting all 4 teeth removed is far more painful and traumatic to the mouth than getting 1, 2, or 3 removed. There is just something about having injury in all 4 corners of the mouth that makes the pain seem so much worse.

During engorgement should I still be somewhat swollen and hard after nursing Gideon? I'm wondering because of my surgery that I had. I can palpate lumps in there but don't know if it's just swollen tissue or milk that isn't able to get out because the milk ducts were severed. I don't know what "normal" should feel like so I don't know what to make of it.

I'm pleased to report I'm making lots of milk but Gideon can still drain me. He'll go on one side, then the other and back to the other again if I let him. He loves to nurse! He could suck the chrome of a bumper. My poor nips are a bit sore.

One word before anyone else says it! LANOLIN. It's a must. Before and after nursing.

I have a question...

Nath is 7 months. He seems to breast feed alot, maybe I am doing the order wrong or something at this stage.
He will feed at say 7am, then maybe 11, 2, 5, 8, 11pm, 2am, 5am most days.
He is on solids 3 times a day, so the morning feed always happens before solids and so does the 11am and 5pm feed. should I try doing the 11am and 5 pm feeds after solids? I am just wondering if at this stage he is waking so frequently because he is still so hungry because he doesn't eat as much solids?
Its also hard with the solids becaues of the reflux I am scared to give him too many different ones if it upsets him, but i don't want him to be eating cereal and apple or pear forever either :)

Thanks for the reminder about lanolin ladies. I even have some but just haven't used it. Silly me.

Any thoughts on the engorgement question?

Julie, when my 1st baby was a newborn, I would be extremely full in the mornings. My breasts wouldn't feel soft until after her first 3 morning feeds.

If your breasts always feel firm, no matter how much he eats, it is possible you are developing clogged ducts. For me, a clogged duct was a dull ache. Engorgement was a bit more tingly, if that helps. Also, your breasts may feel warm, look pink, or you may see a pattern of capillaries or veins on the area of skin above the clogged duct.

Nicole, that much breastfeeding doesn't sound abnormal to me for a 7 month old.

Nicole, Nathan was nursing 6-8 times a day or more at 7 months, but I wouldn't nurse him right before a solids. Try putting some distance in between a nursing and a solids feeding, so that he'll eat more.

As for variety of foods, slowly but surely introduce new ones as you are comfortable. Talk to your doctor if it helps, but don't worry to much about it.
