One or two people from my husband's workplace have mumps. I was wondering how to find out if my husband or myself have been immunized for it. We live and grew up in Canada.

Immunizations don't last forever, so even if he was immunized, he could still catch it.

Do you have the equivelent of a 'health department' that we have in the US? They and the schools were able to provide me with some of my records. Parents now have little folders to keep that info in, but it was not that way when we were kids.

I read somewhere that mumps immunizations were supposed to last for life, not 100% effective but 80% - 90%. I think we have the equivalent department. I'll try to contact them. Thanks. I have little folders for each of my kids too. I wish they did that years ago.

Well when you were little you should of had like an Immunization card of something like that, I have one.

Not everyone does, though, especially those of us not in our twenties, lol.

your dr can test your blood (and they typically do at yearly apts) to make sure you are up to date on things like vax's and such.

Thanks for your replies. I talked to a nurse and she said immunizations for mumps started around 1970, and people born before 1970 are considered immune, having likely been exposed to it already. The person at my husband's work was born prior to 1970, so obviously there are exceptions.
As far as I know, the only record of my vaccinations are in my mother's memory. [:D]
