HERE is an article about fat cells reproducing. It mostly talks about fat cells regenerating to replace dying/dead fat cells, but the las paragraph mentions growth of more fat cells.

I've met plenty of quite elderly (80's plus) obese people. Key thing they've (in my purely non-scientific sample) all had in common was consistent physical activity - usually starting with walking to do a lot of their "getting around".

1. Thanks for the article Tricia. 2. RE: Post 107, being obese and old is not impossible, but quality of life sure seems diminished for many of them--if not all.
