You can also get hives from just something rubbing against your skin. I used to sit and touch my jawline while surfing the internet at night. I kept getting large hives in that area. When I realized what I was doing and stopped it, they didn't come back. Most causes of hives are never proven. A doctor can guess and a doctor will give you a diagnosis of nonspecific uticaria which means, 'You've got hives and I don't have any idea why'. quote:
