I think this is the right spot, if not, Mods please direct it to the more appropriate folder.


Do you think the ooey gooey church feeling comes with young Christians and as we grow and seek, we find ourselves searching for more food than feeling? The newness of belief pours out love and forgiveness, not necessarily only from God, but more from people, showing the love of Christ. Yet as we mature, certain expectations come from other members of the body? Such as looking for changes in believers thought processes and behaviors? Evidence of one's salvation..... I'm talking years not weeks or months. Is there certain expectation we have for believers to grow rather than stagnate in the new believer stage? I'm just curious what other's thoughts are on this. Does the church bear a certain responsibility in encouraging its members to grow up?

Yes as seen in all the admonitions in the NT to feed the sheep.
John 21:15-17
Acts 20:28
1 Peter 5:2

yes growing in the fruit of the spirit Gal 5:22
Growing in Holiness 1 Thes 4:7
Growing in Knowledge of the word 2 Tim 2:15

And there are more but that would sum up most of them.

I grew up in a church. Both my parents are Christians so they took me to church every Sundays. Does a church bear any responsiblity encouraging its members to grow up spiritually? The answer is yes. The church is not the physical building, rather the church is actually the body of Christ. I believe we are the body of Christ and bear a responsiblity for (encouragement, edification, and accountability). The church I currently attend offers many helpful resources such as (marriage counselors, singles ministry, bible study, oversees missions, community outreach, prayer meetings, etc).
