luvmygirls -> Homeschool Tracker vs. HomeSchool Easy Records (4/26/2008 7:04:31 PM)

I'm looking at these homeschool planning software and am needing some insight. I'd appreciate positives or negatives from anyone who has experience or knowledge of one or both of them. It'd be great if someone can compare and contrast them for me. Personal experiences might help me make my decision.

HOMESCHOOL TRACKER - http://www.homeschooltracker.com/
HOMESCHOOL EASY RECORDS http://www.dataplus.biz/HER/

Also, if there any other planning software out there, please tell me about them? Preferrably, with details.

Blessings,
Linda

I have personally had both of these programs and I love the HST(I am assuming you are talking about the +) the best. For HST you can download for FREE the basic version, it is NOT a trial(were as HER is) the basic is a FULL usable version, it just doesn't have all the bells and whistles that + does.

HST+ vs HST basic it would depend on how many kids you have (you can set up a Lesson Plan and not assign it to dates until you need to, AND you can reuse it for other children, basic you don't have the LP feature) ALSO I don't remember this being available in HER.

HST+ updates are available for FREE as long as you have it.
HER, you pay for updates.

I can't remember a lot of details with the HER program as I used them both and imediately liked HST best.

Hope this helps.

ETA-with HER you can only get a FREE 30 DAY trial vs the HST basic FREE. Plus if you like the HST basic and decide you want to try the + and don't like it you can get $$ back within 30 days.

I bought HST+ at conference and have loved using it. It does do weird things sometimes like mark day present (on Sat?) and I had to figure out how to use it on a network with out other computer. Other than that I love it. Be sure and back up often. It has helped me keep up with our progress and not leave anything out.

I love HST. I have the basic free version and love it. When the kids get to high school I may buy the plus version.

I figured you'd pipe up zoe LOL[;)] I knew you had HST but I didn't know if you had + or basic. Oh and BTW- it had/has been a while since I had HER so I thought I'd download the Free Trial(shhhh Zoe don't tell KT-LOL) anyway.....It was just as CONFUSING and complicated as I remember. HST is SO MUCH BETTER!!

ETA- I kept getting ERROR messages with HER and couldn't even complete the setup.

Since reading this, I am thinking about downloading the free version. I having officially started homeschooling where I send in reports and stuff yet, but will be doing that next year. So, I think this would be a good way to keep track of things and then have them at hand when I need to send them in. Anyway, my question is this...does this program have a daily schedule log? I am looking for something where I can type in my plans on a time grid like thing. Does this have that? If not, where can I find one? I'm sure it's easy to find, but I'm just not thinking clearly. (Been a long week already, and it's just Monday!!!!)

With the basic on HST you can assign times to each assignment, as you assign dates. With the HST+ version you can ALSO assign times, and you can "schedule" a whole year without assigning the "assignments" to dates until you need them.

IE-if you have Saxon Math, set up ALL the Lessons AND Test and then with a couple of clicks you set them to dates. With the basic you can also do this, but they are assigned to dates-so for example if you have to miss a day or two of school for some reason you have to reschedule. HOWEVER, it really ISN'T difficult to do that, so I would personally download the HST basic (which is what I did when I first got the program) and played around with it. Also there is a Discussion Group SPECIFICALLY for the HST. With PLENTY of help. You can even join the discussion group and ask all the questions you want before you download the basic or decide to buy the +

Also check out the screen shots(they are plus) and training videos. Also Katie periodically has online training FOR FREE!!!

HST+ is very flexible. That is one of the things I love about it. If you schedule an assignment or chore every day and it does not get done, you can just delete or move to a different day. I have not been giving grades, but I will have to next year in high school and am looking forward to HST keeping up with that. It also has a reading log and field trip schedule. This program was written by a homeschool family (I think) and they have been thorough. Also, you can get free updates forever. I assign certain things, such as make bed, piano practice, etc and you can copy it for the whole year. I found if it is on the list (like bed making) my dd does it without nagging. She loves checking off the list and has become much more independent. [:D]

Yes they did HS and that is why the program was done. Katie didn't like what was out there, so she had JL make one. [:D]

I love the Homeschool Tracker! A friend of mine pointed me to their website and I signed up for the free basic version. I have homeschooled from Kindergarten through 12th grade, and oh how much easier it is to keep track of grades and attendance using this wonderful program. In my state of New York, we are required to provide quarterly reports consisting of grades and attendance. I used to spend hours adding up all the grades and averaging them. No more! This have saved me a headache and loads of time. I highly recommend it!

Both software looked great, and it was a difficult decision for me, but I went with Homeschool Tracker Plus. I didn't like the free HS Tracker that much. I am liking the upgraded version and online tutorial. The fact that I'd never have to pay anything again was one of the deciding factors.

Blessings,
Linda

amybreit -> RE: Homeschool Tracker vs. HomeSchool Easy Records (5/27/2008 9:23:24 AM)

OK - you all have convinced me!! I'm going to the website today to get the basic HST & play with it! Ds will be in high school the year after next & I think this will help greatly in keeping track when I need to worry about grades! I'll check out the discussion groups too! Thanks!!!

I agree! Homeschool Tracker! [:)]

wylyne -> RE: Homeschool Tracker vs. HomeSchool Easy Records (6/6/2008 9:28:34 AM)

I have used Homeschool Tracker for a couple years now. I like it a lot. About a year ago I decided to buy the Plus version. While I don't currently need/use all that it offers, I think it will be nice to have for when my daughter gets to high school years and the cost is reasonable.
