...you used to be able to say "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun" very quickly!

....you want the workers at your local McDonald's to sing and dance while they keep the restaurant squeaky-clean in a chorus-line, Broadway show style!

Amy, I think that's a bit much. We just want our food - fast, now. Honestly, we probably would have been better off w/o drive-thrus. Our waist lines definitely tell us so!

Anybody remember this, "Jack's hamburgers for 15 cents. So good, good, good. You go back, back, back to Jack, Jack, Jack, for more, more, more." Well, it was probably more than that in the 70s. Fifteen cents was probably the 60s price. kd

I remember when Hardee's got rid of the Huskie! That was my absolute favorite!

It was an oblong hamburger with lettuce and "secret sauce" which as we all know is 1,000 dressing .

Char-broiled and yummy!

Burger King is still my favorite. Love that charbroiled taste. But I like a mustard whopper, and sometimes they don't get that right. Mayonnaise on a hamburger? Blech.

Yeah, it's nasty. I wonder if it's a southern thing though because the one church I went to had quite a few southern members and they all liked mayo on hamburger.

Mayo? ONLY on a whopper

I like my burgers different at every fast food place.

I get my whopper minus maters and onions. I don't like maters from fast food and BK's onions are really strong.

But, BK is my favorite, too. We eat there every other week or so.

Good thing! Everyone needs to stay away from those 'maters! for now.

I don't even like lettuce from BK on my whopper. It's like a bunch of salad, just chunks of lettuce instead of it either being shredded or a leaf. Hunks so big they leave dents in the bun.

I think we had a Hardees in the 70's here but it closed. It was the only one in town. Then they tried again and I believe they are all closed now except for the one by the interstate.

We've spoken about several quintessential 70's songs - but who can forget:

"Feelings ... nothing more than feelings ...
Trying to forget my feelings of love!!!!

Teardrops ... rolling down on my face ...
Trying to forget my feelings of love!

Feelings ... for all my life I'll feel it ...
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again!

(everybody now)
FEEELINGS!!!! WO-OH-OH FEELINGS!!!!!
WO-OH-OH - feel you again in my arms ..."

Oh my gosh, how many times did I cry over that stupid song?

Was it in the 70's when the rumors that McDonalds was using kangaroo meat surfaced? I just remember thinking that was the funniest thing I had ever heard and that it might even make for a great marketing campaign...

Pete Rose selling Aqua-Velva.
I graduated in '75, and remember lots of plaid. Oh, and polyester leisure suits. And sports jackets with contrasting stitching (mine was rust with yellow stitching).
The invention of the aluminum baseball bat.
Nobody who was anybody played soccer. Baseball was king.
The ABA, with their red, white, and blue basketball.

I always thought that song was over the top -- especially when I saw the dude from South America sing it.

The only time I ever got close to shedding a tear when it was sung was when I watched Carol Burnett as Eunice singing on the Gong Show. It was the only serious Carol Burnett skit I ever remember seeing. She was gonged of course, and the look on her face was one of horror, and then the camera put her face in a black screen and gradually pulled back until her face was gone and it was only a black screen.

I guess Jack-in-the-Box isn't in your state. Come to think of it, they're not in my current state. But there are lots of them in the state where I grew up. In fact, that's the first drive-thru I ever went to.

Oh, I was wrong. I guess there are a couple in suburban Denver. Hmm, I'll have to check those out next time I'm that way.

I think it was called Jax or Jack's Liquors in Florida where you could get mixed drinks at a drive-thru window. It was a liquor store with a lounge inside and a drive thru window.

They were open on Sundays, but only after church cause you know, you need to get your religion before your get your liquor.

Yes, I remember it being a big story back in the 70s in Texas. I think that they've cleaned up their act since then, but at the time it was big news.

All this talk about fast food made me remember a fast food restaurant that was in my town in the 70's. I don't know if it was a chain or if it was local. It was called Kinney's, and it featured a big hamburger called a "Doozie." It was advertized by this cartoon kid in a toy car (I think), holding one up in his hand and saying in the strangest voice, "It's a doozie!" There was also a shoe store in the mall called Kinney's and I wondered if they were run by the same people.

We had a Kinney's shoe store in a nearby mall also (south central PA). But I don't remember any restaurant by that name.
