Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 8:34:37 AM)

is there a kind of theft software by which people can get any password they want?

manda59 -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 8:47:24 AM)

Did you get an email recently, appearing to be from PayPal, asking you to enter your email and password for security purposes?

Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 9:12:09 AM)

oh ok, mayb it's the problem, i cannot remember very well. i wl check it. or mayb i deleted that email already. surely i wl pay more attention to this.

That's the usual way that they hack in. They send emails, which LOOK LIKE they're from PayPal, but they're actually not.

This happened to me once with EBay, and someone got into my account.

PayPal will NEVER send you an email asking you to confirm your password. If you ever get one and you're not sure, send it to PayPal and they can let you know it's from them or not.

Anything PayPal need to tell you will be on your Account page of your PayPal - they rarely email you for anything except with updates.

Did they take any of your money?

Some helpful links for you:

http://www.antiphishing.org/phishing_archive/04-01-05_Paypal/04-01-05_Paypal.html

These explain how these crooks "spoof" or "phish".

manda59 -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 9:35:34 AM)

You're not stupid - it's very easy to be taken in.

Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 9:45:52 AM)

no money was taken. paypal is expert. they locked my account after a 3rd party entered. i am lucky enuf. hehe.

people are doing the same cheating with citibank accounts. but i know the trick now. i recieve these cheating emails from time to time.

manda59 -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 10:12:44 AM)

I get about 12-15 phish emails per week - 99% go through to my Bulk Mail, the spam filter does that for me. They allege to be from PayPal, a number of British banks (I am in the UK) and EBay. If you get them, don't click on anything, don't open any attachments, if possible just delete them without even reading them. That's the best way.

DaveW -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 10:38:14 AM)

Yeah, I get a few of them every week too.

Some of them look really authentic. But they never have my name exactly right....

fluffmonkey -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 10:42:32 AM)

Yeah I have gotten a few of those fake paypal emails, and its hard to see that they are scaming you.... but after getting that email I went and checked my paypal account not threw there link.... and seen that nothing was wrong...and thats when I knew it was scam...and then later I heard about the scam from alot other people.

Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 12:14:33 PM)

Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 12:41:32 PM)

after u get phished, it is suggested u get into quick contact with ur bank to prevent any further troubles. pls go to paypal for more info. u need to be very careful in the coming few months.

Brachah -> RE: paypal security (4/26/2008 12:58:44 PM)

paypal encourages everybody to take an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails.
paypal security team works to disable the phishing emails so that it wont harm more people.
