ORIGINAL: x_SoliDeoGloria_x Everyone is probably expecting some sort of spiritual answer, like church attendence is down or mandatory school prayer has been abolished, but I think that we really have to be concerned about some very real practical issues. One of the main ones that comes to my mind is monetary. Millions of baby boomers are approaching retirement with no pensions and inadequate savings. Money to fund medicare and social security is drying up. Our roads and bridges are crumbling. We are spending billions of dollars in Iraq with no end in sight. Energy prices will probably keep rising. We have a huge national debt which keeps growing. As a nation, we have not been good stewards of our material wealth. And what? God is going to stop supplying my needs because the U.S. government/SS is bankrupt? Not my God...He's not bankrupt! He is limited by nothing and will continue to provide for me even if everything crumbles on this earth! "19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4 Fasten your seat belts kids, you may be in for a bit of a bumpy ride, but God will never fail His children..."Let not your hearts be troubled." This is exactly the response that I suspected my post would generate, and what I am going to say next will probably anger a lot of people. I don't believe that "So what if my country is in trouble, what matters is that God will supply MY needs is an appropriate Christian response. While we are alive, we are still citizens of this planet and this country, and I think that we have a responsibility to use our God-given gifts to address the problems of the world in which we live. As the old cliche says, we shouldn't be so heavenly minded that we're no earthly good. Doesn't anger me a bit, however, we'll just have to agree to disagree. My God and His Word NEVER changes...you can count on it. His promises to His children remain true no matter what happens in this world. 17 "Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls-- 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. 19 The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills." Habakkuk 3
