is it Yankee for the New Yorkers?

I am not at all. The reason why I call myself Yankee nut is caused I am a hugh yankee fan.

not sure who Hugh Yankee is but since he don't wear the pinstripe bb uniform I guess can talk to you then

j/k. so what do you think of your teams draft this year?

and for all. did the picks improve the team in your opinion. forget the espn and all the other draft reports. do you as a fan not an analyst, feel the team will improve? even if the picks can be traded for established star/semi-star will they be helpful?

I am not sure about the draft quite yet. But am getting excited about the up comeing season but am not sure about Smith though. Three Years into the league and he hasn't really proformed for us yet. Looked awesome the first two games but when Pittsburgh came to town everthing went wrong. I like that we signed Mike Marks though. Hope he dose well with the boys.

Good thing for the Giants because they just barely beat the "worthless Patsies". If the Steelers had played better the Giants would have lost.

No offense to the Giants, they pulled off a great win, one for the ages. Or the Steelers, who made a nice comeback in the Jacksonville game IIRC. But the Patriots didn't play horribly and there is no reason to believe the Steelers or anyone else would have done better against a Giants team riding an incredible wave of momentum.

Speaking of that, I think we'll see much less of the resting your starters junk when things are clinched. The two teams that did not do that (because of the unbeaten thing) made it to the Super Bowl whereas my second team, the fool Bucs, rested starters to excess and were quickly dispatched from the playoffs, their just reward for such stupidity. They pulled Garcia while they still had a chance to snatch the #3 seed. Seattle had to lose, they were beating the Ravens 24-3 at halftime. The Ravens probably would not have come back but you don't make decisions to pull reasonably healthy starters based on the idea that a team can't come back from a 3 touchdown deficit.

Sorry if I touched a nerve but I never have liked the Patriots and my ex-cousin's friend played for them years ago. I dislike them and I am not ashamed to say that its more personal than professional.

No, its just that the statement (which wasn't yours) didn't make sense. How much closer could the Pats have played the Giants? It seemed to be taking a shot just to take a shot with no reality behind it. Kind of like some of the shots taken at Tom Brady .

Did your ex-cousin's friend have a bad experience with the Pats? I wouldn't be surprised as the Pats don't always treat their players well (see Brown, Troy). Of course that is on Belichick who makes the player personnel decisions (the GM Pioli functions more as a cap expert and confidant but Belichick has the final say in all personnel decisions). It seems like we sold our soul to win three Super Bowls.

I am not sure if he was treated badly because this was back in the 1980's. I don't remember the guys name. My ex-cousin (he divorced my cousin in the mid-1980's) was Mike Hohensee past QB of the Washington Federals of the short lived USFL. He now is head coach of the arena football Chicago Rush. He threw the first TD in AFL history. Didn't know how to treat a lady though!

Boston right? I first thought Birmingham but they were the Stallions, no?

I remember the two teams that signed all the NFL guys, the Generals and Federals kinda flopped (the Federals more so).

Yeah, my ex-cousin at least can boast of the franchise record in TD passes and passing yardage! Of course the team only had two seasons.

The Breakers could beat the Vikings.

Speaking of that, here is something to discuss. Last year while the Patriots were going around being unbeaten there was talk (from sports media) of who would win between the 2007 Patriots and the 1972 Dolphins (the only unbeaten team in the Super Bowl or even TV era). I think its a ridiculous question. I don't think the 1972 Dolphins could beat the 2007 Dolphins (1-15 last year). No disrespect to the 72 Dolphins but athletes, especially lineman offensively & defensively are just too big yet athletic today. Receivers and backs are just too fast. And besides, what about the playbooks? If the 2007 Dolphins came out in a five wide set what would the 1972 Dolphins do other than freak out.

If it is a question of which team was more dominant in its era its clearly the 72 Dolphins (even before the Pats lost in the Super Bowl).

So can anyone make an argument for the 72 Dolphins beating any modern NFL team.

You've probably already heard about the possible lockout of the 2011 season? The owners will most likely opt out of the Collective Bargaining Agreement before the end of the year. They don't feel they are making enough $$$. If that happens, it could lead to uncapped salary in 2010, then no NFL games in 2011.

Of course, all the doom and gloom that is being spoken about now is worst-case-scenario. With the $$$ that the players and owners are making, they'll find a way to make it work...unlike the 2004-2005 NHL season.

2008 numbers: Cap = $116 million, Floor = 85.2% of cap = $98.8 million
Avg. Player Salary At Cap - 2.2 million At floor - 1.9 million

How do they pay their bill? They must be barely getting by!

The Breakers were in Boston, then New Orleans, then Portland. You are correct about Birmingham. The Federals stunk up Washington (if it's possible to make DC worse) for two years, then finished in Orlando.

Well, I liked Matt Hasselbeck the QB who took them to the Super Bowl in 2005. Does that count?

BTW, please feel free to boast about them! If we all rooted for the same team this board would sound like this:

Poster 1: Such and such team is AWESOME!!!
Poster 2: YEAH, AWESOME!!
Poster 1: THE QB is AWESOME!!!
Poster 2: YEAH, AWESOME!!
Poster 1: (Insert boast about team here)
Poster 2: YEAH, AWESOME!!

And no I am not talking to myself!!
Yes, you are!!!
No, I'm not!!
Yes, you are!!!

I gotta find a way to cure this early morning insomnia!!

Sort of a fan but sometimes he frustrates me. Reason: he's been my fantasy QB for 2-3 years now.

Real life speaking I would put him in the lower half of the top 10. He's a great leader and has gotten solid results with a receiving core that has been suspect due to injuries and lack of depth. And Alexander didn't light the world on fire so he had to carry the team. But sometimes he has awful games and makes more big mistakes than a big time QB should, from my observations (and I do watch him, fantasy QB and all).

But take away the Mannings, Brady, Roth and Palmer (maybe Brees but he's prone to big mistakes in clutch situations as well) and I'd gladly have him on my real life team. There might be a couple others I'd rate ahead of him but it would be a toss-up (like Brees) and I can't think of them at the moment.

He was good enough to "lead" my fantasy team to the league championship so thats a plus.

Sorry about the bragging. In actuality I was the 3rd best team (unlike the NFL its clear in Fantasy where you stack up, its based on how many points you score) but my key players got sorta hot (Westbrook stayed healthy )and the chips fell right for me during the playoffs.

Its sad about Dwight White. I never got to watch him play as a "fan" much if at all (I started watching at 10 in 1980, White's career was close to done then I believe) but I know from my football history that he was a big part of the Steel Curtain. Those old time football players were warriors. Today's players may be bigger, faster, stronger but they can't top the classic guys for heart. Not that many of them don't have it but the old timers (for lack of a better term) had it in spades.

I heartily agree with this. There are still some great players though and I think the heart is still there but embodied in fewer players. But there's so much money getting thrown at them it is easier for them to get selfish and more mercenary in their playing. Less team, more me, me, me.

The Seahawk also had another great QB in Zorn. I remember him too!

By the way, I did see the Steelers play (on TV) in the Steel Curtain days. It seemed that team would score at will! Lynn Swann and John Stallworth were two of the greatest wide receivers of all time. It was like the football had a homing beacon for those guys!

I've been a Steelers fan since I was six and at that time we still had the LA Lambs (I mean Rams.) They were still wearing white and blue, too! (Man, I am getting old!) Thank goodness they are St. Louis' headache now!. Although my bro-in-law from St. Lou is still a fan. Well, they did win a Super Bowl there which is more than they did while in LA.

BTW, I just found out that Tony Dungy was a defensive back for the Steelers during those days as well. Well, whatta ya know!
