This is the crux of the entire discussion. Church has a purpose, and that purpose has nothing to do with our convenience or preference. It is all about worshipping God.

Part of the reason for the church is to fellowship with other believers and much of what is done in many churches concerns fellowship with other believers. Pot luck dinners, christmas pageants, the newly re-legalized super bowl parties, men's get togethers, women's get togethers, VBS - these are things that are about fellowship which is part of what we as christians should be doing with each other.

The corner pub is a part of British culture.

This is why for this church being where it is at I have no problem with it.

not for people looking for cheep beer.

Cheap beer in England would be expensive beer in the states after export taxes and far superior to anything made in America unless it's from a microbrewery. The only thing that matters to anything made in the states is mass production and it shows especially when comparing US beer to foreign ones.

The four cups of the passover meal contained wine. Why do you thibj he rebuked the church at Corinth for getting plastered during communion? According to your logic, he should have rebuked them for drinking alcohol.

Like it or not, the consumption of alcohol is part of a culture. Drunkeness is a sin as gluttony is a sin. Since gluttony is a sin, should we do away with fellowship meals because someone might come who struggles with that sin?

There is a difference between owning a pub or going to a pub to build relationships and witness to the lost. . .

And starting a pub and calling it a church for believers.

The first I have no problem with. It's the latter.

I guess I don't have a problem with it.

There's a church pastored by David Ruis (the worship leader) in L.A. and they meet on Sunday nights in a bar. The bar owner has allowed them to use the bar. They run a full service there - a worship set, teaching, praying over people - and they don't close down the bar during this. The atmosphere is of course very different because people are worshipping and unbelievers who come in are quiet during it all - and pretty dumbfounded too. *L* I think it's a very good idea.

It was a joke. Please, take note of the winking smiley.

I must stop wearing sneakers because people in the outside culture do that too.

What is your attitude about that "church" having it's own Hindu deity? Not sure about you, but that bothers me more than a little.

If that church shares their building with other people in the community then I see no problem with it. There is no power in statues and it would mean nothing to the christians meeting in the building. In fact, I would think their worshipping would cleanse the building of any demonic stuff that could possibly be attached to any Hindu statues if there were.

Statues pretty well creep me out.

Nope, not sharing. That "church" has people worshipping that god, Shiva, along with any other deity that suits their fancy (plus they sport a Buddha statue). They embrace whatever gives a person in the congregation the warm fuzzies. I guess I'm one you probably call uptight or closed-minded because I believe in gathering with fellow believers in Jesus Christ to worship Him and Him alone rather than accommodating every religion around.
