I keep getting some weird messages when I'm posting. For example, if I pause for more than a few seconds, I get a message that tells me if there were or weren't any spelling errors.

I don't mind it, it's not bothering me, just took me by surprise.

[Title edited by mod for clarification - I have a feeling a lot of folks will be wondering about this.]

yeah....how do we turn off the spell check? I know it helps to make the world a more spelling-correct place to live (which is a lovely thought) but it's driving me bonkers.

Absolutely annoying.

I don't mind it at all.

The only problem is it pops up with the user's name as a spelling error and that was throwing me off.

Overall, I actually think it's pretty cool!

(Nice example is that it caught that I had made a typo in the word "throwing" and forgot the "r".)

Please add an option to shut it off if that's not already in the works.

Thanks!

Maybe if we could have it somewhere else?

It does pop up right in the area where you are trying to hit "ok" or whichever you need to hit to post your post.

Yeah, the option to turn it off would be good although I can't see how helpful it's really going to be for anyone since it will have a problem with the spelling of nearly every screen-name here making quoting a small hassle.

Well, there are those of us who either take so long to post because we have to look up words to make sure we got the spelling exactly right, or we spend forever reading through our posts to make sure that we didn't make any spelling errors.

It is highly annoying - and if you use a decent web browser (like FireFox) spell-checker is automatically built in. I don't need one from this website.

Sure, I understand. I'm just saying that if you are quoting someone and a box pops up insisting that the handle of the person you are quoting is misspelled and that happens nearly every time you quote someone, it's going to get old in a hurry. I think anyway. Underlining misspelled words without the pop-up box would be a better alternative, IMHO.

I like the idea of having one, but not one that keeps tally the whole time you are typing. It'd be nice if it were a button that would could click if we needed it!

LOL...me too...I even asked hubby if he downloaded anything new last night....lol.

I don't mind it much, but I use firefox so I already have a spell checker...one that I can add words to if they are things commonly used (like "LOL" or whatever). Is there a way to add words to the list of correctly spelled things? Esp things like the common terms (LOL, DH, etc) or the smiley things?

and I thought it was a firefox thing!

I wonder if they put it on because so many members complain about other members spelling errors.

OK I've told it to ignore the fact I didn't cap Firefox three times now, because I pause to think about what I'm going to say.

It seems to me that there are many times when new upgrades are done to the site, we either love them or hate them without giving them too much of a chance.

For some reason, I can't seem to do quotes or links right now. That could be on my end..... or maybe I just didn't send Fritz enough fudge?

Normally, I don't need a spell checker to write nicely-spelled posts. Apparently, someone must have an agenda to make sure people spell better. Dare I sugest that anyone who wants to potrest this start inserting delibrate mispellings?
