The artist that has infulenced me the most is Jason Dunn from Hawk Nelson. The lyrics he writes are amazing and I feel like I can really relate to them.I love bands with lyrics like that.I also really love Fireflight.Their song "Unbreakable" is the stuff.

Probably if I have to name only one artist, I would say Keith Green. For one reason, he was one I listened to so much when I was a new believer, and he died soon after I became a believer. I think that Keith sang (and played the piano) like he meant every word he sang and that he tried with all his heart and soul to live for Jesus. (That does not mean that other artists do not do that, just that Keith was the first one maybe I really knew of like this.) Petra would be the group that had the most influence on me. Especially during my high school days. I probably never knew worshiping the Lord could be so much fun until I experienced worship at a Not of This World Petra concert! Another one that had a lot of influence on me was Amy Grant, back when Age to Age first came out and Smitty was still her piano man. I loved In a Little While so much and pretty much every song on that album. I probably put her on too high a pedestal and expected her to be perfect. (No, let's not turn this into an Amy Grant rant thread!)

Keith Green Rich Mullins Michael W. Smith Those three have been the most inspiring to me...not only their powerful music, but how they live/lived their lives.

I was an AVID supporter of Amy but now all she sings about is "love songs" and "guy love" and not so much of His love anymore, and I'm just so sick of it. Anybody who's listened to Amy for a decade or more knows the change is evident. Still praying for her though. But then again, I don't entirely hold a grudge against her, because of all she's been through, including miscarrying her first child. But anyway, now I support Jaime Jamgochian, Sara Groves, Michelle Tumes... I love all the girls in my life.

I guess I've missed some later releases - the last few CDs she's put out which I'm aware of consisted of hymns (two different CDs in 2005, I believe) and a live CD/DVD which had songs from all phases of her career. Let me know if I missed a recent CD where she only sang "love songs" about "guy love".

Well some of the songs in 2003's Simple Things was not blatantly Christian, and the main thing she talked about was romantic love (eg "wanna make my guy happy", etc.) I do like her "Holy, Holy and Holy" and "Softly and Tenderly" versions though. She did have the power flowing when she sung songs like "El Shaddai", but now I think she just singing it because she has to do it, you know.

I'd have to say P.O.D., Pillar, Disciple and Project 86. Those four bands showed me that CCM music can be pretty awesome. My kids know more CCM bands than secular music and I like that! With one son approaching his teenage years I am glad that he likes to listen to bands that deal with serious issues and not just the happy-happy-joy-joy stuff that seems to deny the reality of how hard it can be to be Christian in today's world. At least they talk about resilience in the face of adversity and not giving up. I can really associate with P.O.D. and their having grown up in the rough part of town. I am glad that I can find hard-edged music that is Christian.

Eep, my two haven't been mentioned yet. Overall, I would definitely say Five Iron Frenzy (RIP, much sadness), but recently I would have to go with mewithoutYou.

Keith Green defined my childhood. Rich Mullins defined my 20s (as much his life as his music).

ORIGINAL: 2shaye Keith Green - his concerts were phenomenal! Rich Mullins - the spirit was so thick in his presence! Leslie Phillips - her song, Strength of My Life really carried me through a divorce that blindsided me. Now, it's Jars of Clay, Chris Tomlin, Tree 63, Nicole Nordeman and Third Day Did we go to the same concerts!!?? Hands down, though, Michael W. Smith brought Christ's message in a way that changed the course of my life as a teen. (Big Picture, Go West, Young Man, etc.)

Hillsong and namely Darlene Zschech. I've cried, shouted for joy, and danced around in my house more to Hillsong albums than any music I've ever listened to in my entire life.
