I think we have to be careful that we don't put evangelism in a box. The early church didn't - evangelism happened inside there meeting, it happened on the streets, it happened in the jails, it happened while walking down the road. It was the pastors, the apostles, the church members, etc who shared the gospels. I don't get the idea that the pastor "shouldn't" or the congregation "shouldn't". It's not one or the other. We should all be working together and it that means I have to swallow my fear and share with my neighbor so be it. If that means, I have to listen to the salvation message for the 50th time this year, so be it. I don't understand why we have to "separate" everything into neat little packages: this is where we evangelize, this is who should share the message, etc, etc.

A good point.

As long as we have church buildings with doors that open outwards, we'll have christians as well as the merely curious walking through them. We should by all means have a focus on the first but be willing to create a place for the second. The very last thing we should do is to be inhospitable to those who are seeking.

I don't see this thread as being an "either/or" option. It's more "both/and".

In the words of a former pastor, "There's always an open chair." There aren't many hills that I would choose to die on. This would be one.

On the opposite end of the spectrum...i know of many churches which do not want "seekers"....do not welcome "visitors"....these very small "Churches" are filled with people who are content with the specific individuals they attend church with each week, and do not want anyone "new" coming in and possibly "messing things up"....or risking the possibility of having to be in church with a person or family that doesn't think like them, doesn't dress like them, doesn't look like them, etc...etc...

very sad...

Churches are houses of God, therefore they should be for Everyone believers and non-believers even for non-Christians!!!

Christ died for ALL so that ALL might be saved. If we leave unbelievers outside; we practice bigotry which is sinful!
