Ah, so you're right on the edge of the storm cell. They're talking flash floods here in Wake county, and it's still coming down nicely. Good day to stay inside.

Fuuuunn...

But you gotta admit, today's a good day to stay inside.

Yeah, fun. Ah, well, one more thing to make me do my classwork. That is actually a good thing, I guess.

Just heard that a road on campus has been closed due to flooding.

There and here. No flooding here (not likely as we're on a ridge here), but annoyingly wet and just blustery enough to make using an umbrella a bit of a chore.

Yep. People are indeed SO much fun.

I've often said that I'd understand the world a lot more if it weren't for the people in it.

Well there are always benefits in addition to the original product. I learned that in Marketing class...

What is the additional benefit to Spam?

Do you mean Spam as in unwanted e-mail??? Or Spam the meat in a can???

Because Spam the e-mail is evil.

But Spam the meat in the can is quite popular in Hawaii. It started in world War II when there was very little fresh meat in the islands. So Spam became the meat replacement of choice. It has been popular in the islands ever since. Keep in mind it it has to be Spam. There are other meat in the can products out there that are not the same at all.

Hawaii consumes more Spam than any other place in the world.

Not all canned meat is created equally. Treet is nasty!

It's amazing the sacrifices that the Greatest Generation had to endure during WWII. The question of course becomes, why do we still have SPAM?

I would like to say that when we eat our Spam in Hawaii it is always cooked. Never just straight out of the can.

I always found it ironic that I live in a tropical place where Bananas are plentiful and I hate Bananas just as much as some of you hate Spam.

And The fact that I would not moving away from the islands. There are many who would give their...anything to live here.

I would very much like to visit the Islands, but I am not sure about living there. If I didn't have family on the mainland, perhaps. But I would hate to be so far away from my family. I do travel nursing and I have considered doing a travel assignment there, but, I am cornfuzzled as to how one would get around since it would be somewhat difficult to drive to Oahu.

But once you landed (in a plane) and you were there for say, a three month contract assignment (that's what normal nursing contracts are for), how do you get around while you are on assignment? I would not want to buy a car there. I'm sure renting one would be quite expensive. Taxis are not an option -- too costly... especially if you wanted to drive to another part of the island to site see. See what I'm talking about??

Do what I do take the bus. We have an excellent bus system it goes just about anywhere. Many tourist take the bus instead of renting a car.

Sorry, but for a nursing contract, that probably would not work. Most nurses hired as contract workers, work 7pm - 7am. Buses normally do not run well on that schedule. Unless y'all have a 24-hr bus system??

We have buses that run early in the morning most of which are Express buses. I along with many others have to be at work by 7:30. My job along with the others is in town. I catch a six o'clock bus and since the bus takes the freeway a graet part of the route so I am in town by 6:45.

Then there is the #1 route which runs 4:00 am to 12:00am.
