I don't think showing the vote results as they go would be a good idea...it would ruin the surprise on awards night if one particular artist was in the lead.

However, I do think it would be great if the vote percentage and/or total votes was revealed after the presentation. I'd love to know how many participate and I'd love to know the margin of each win.

They did it a year or two ago and Greater Vision won. The applause was almost non-existent. Gerald laughed about that and said it's because nobody there knew what the web was. [:D]

No, the category was "Favorite Artist Website" - mine wouldn't have been eligible.

That's what I meant, sorry. [;)]

But I don't think it is truly representative now, because there are plenty of subscribers who don't want to take the time to fill out a paper ballot and then have to mail it in. I guess the way it will be this year will be ideal because you have the convenience of the on-line voting for those who like that and the paper ballot for those who like that method.

Right - the option of either way is about the best way to do it, IMO. I wonder if it will have any bearing on the outcome though.

I agree. Don't let us know beforehand!

dbmurray -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 10:17:32 PM)

However, they could post the total number of votes received so far...that would be fine. By that, I mean, a counter that says "500 subscribers have voted online as of this very moment." That would be interesting to watch.

GVfan -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 10:40:17 PM)

Yep. That would definitely be interesting to see how many people were voting. We may be surprised!

Does anyone have any idea how many SN subscribers there are????

L5FanLady -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/18/2008 3:37:05 AM)

Could you vote twice, online and by ballot? Seems if you are logged in with your subscription # then any second paper ballot would be denied. Or if you mailed in the ballot and it is entered then an online vote would be denied. Right?

Also, everyone ignored my question. Does the Top Ten ballot come out in May?

Their circulation is roughly 83,000. Since the standard estimate is that three people look at each copy of a magazine, the estimated readership is well above 200,000.

It wouldn't do for L5FanLady to feel ignored.[&o]

The answer is "Yes."

You are correct. They will only accept one vote per subscription number. So, vote by paper ballot or on-line, but not both!

In the Oct or Nov issue there should be a statement of ownership published that will show the subscribers and the number of copies printed. This is a USPS requirement.

I like voting on the computer, but I hope that the contemporary groups like Gaithers Vocal Band and Signature Sound don't take over. I think more young people will vote on computers than some of my friends.

This is SOOO funny to me! "hope that ... don't take over" For this to happen, GVB and SS would have to come sweeping in with guns in a HOSTILE TAKEOVER of the NQC and SN! ... (maybe I watch a little too much news!) WAIT, WAIT! I KNOW I KNOW!

Quote from Ernie:
"We landed today under sniper fire in the Louisville airport and we decided to bring the snipers to the NQC and the SN Fan Awards so we could win these here awards! - To God Be The Glory!"

Now come on - SIGNATURE SOUND is CONTEMPORARY!??!?!?!?!?! You OBVIOUSLY have NOT listened to CCM lately!!! Now I will say that Gaither at one time leaned a little more toward the CCM side, but he's not been that way in years.

I often wonder when someone posts something like this just how much they have listened to the groups they are downing...

WOW - thats the MOST ive EVER written on here - getting off my soapbox...i guess its because its late!

TheNashvilleMan -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/19/2008 3:39:20 AM)

by the way...i originally meant to say this:
I firmly believe that the # of voters in the SN awards will increase dramatically! For instance, ive been a subscriber for about 12 years (WOW!) and I have NEVER voted until THIS YEAR!!!!

I always filled out my ballot but never mailed it in - this year, I voted!

[:D][:D][:D]

Maybe the earlier poster was just referring to the dictionary definition of "contemporary": "of the present time; modern."[:P]
