momma2cuties -> NovaSure Ablation (4/15/2008 11:18:08 AM)

I was wondering in anyone here has had the Novasure Ablation. I had it done on the 21st of March and was curious how long it took for everyone to see results. I'm having what seems like my first period since the procedure. Thanks for any help you can give me.

landabee -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/15/2008 11:48:18 AM)

I did not have a Novasure ablation.... I had a balloon ablation in January 2007, though. I have had no periods or bleeding at all since.

The following link may be helpful for you:

HYSTERSISTERS

There you can see dialogue from women that are considering and have undergone the procedure.

God bless.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Did you have any bleeding after the procedure was done? Did it get better and lighter every period or did you just not have any at all after the surgery..

Thanks again.

This site was the site I found most useful when I had an ablation (mostly because the type of ablation I had was so new). There's also a fairly recent thread here in forums about ablations ~ here that you may find useful.

I had a microwave ablation in November 2004 (I think, could have been 2003[&:]). I had 2 days when I spotted twice (once each day) in December 2004 and that's been it... I've had no bleeding or pms since[:D].

I experienced no real bleeding following the surgery. I had a little serous drainage for a few days. After that.......nothing since.

So, on the 29th of this month I will be free from any bleeding/periods for 15 months. [:)]

I had some cramping once a few months ago that was pretty severe, but no bleeding or anything else.

I have a check up with my gyne (routine) scheduled in just over a month.

Penpen -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/15/2008 3:37:54 PM)

Hi. I had the procedure done in January. I had "drainage", as someone else put it, for about 10 days. I have had 3 periods since my procedure. Before the procedure, my periods would be VERY heavy (needing super plus tampons with a pad) and lasting about 7 days and VERY crampy (sometimes missing 2-3 days of work). The last 3 periods have been so different. They last about 3 days, only requiring a panty shield and no cramping at all. I am so glad I had the procedure done. If you have any other questions, please ask :D

momma2cuties -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/15/2008 4:11:57 PM)

Thanks so much for all the responses.

I guess, since I'm bleeding now I just feel like I'm not going to be one of the lucky that doesn't have a period anymore. I'll be happy with a lighter one though!!

Thanks again.

What is an ablation?

I don't know about novasure, but I am aware that for some other ablations it can take a while for things to settle down. It's not been a month for you yet, so give it some time.

quote:

What is an ablation?
Ablations have been termed the modern hysterectomy. There are various different ablations techniques but all of them aim to destroy the lining of the uterus to stop women suffering from heavy periods. Many ablations are carried out under a local so the woman can go home the same or next day and recovery period is much shorter when compared with a hysterectomy. As the uterus and ovaries are left the problem of menopausal symptoms is reduced (though pregnancy after ablation can be dangerous for mother and baby so it shouldn't be considered by women who are still thinking about having children).

Ablations don't work for everyone. There are varying rates of success but for many women, even if they continue to have periods (ie bleeding), it's much reduced. For any woman dealing with heavy periods, it's worth considering before going on to deal with a hysterectomy.

Thanks for the replies. Yea, I'm hoping your right and it settles down more and more every month!

Agapetos explained an Ablation great.

campfan -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/17/2008 8:44:12 AM)

I had Novasure done a couple of years ago. I've went pretty much all this time without a period. In the last couple of months though I've started spotting. Sometimes it's enough for me to have to wear a pantyliner. I've also started feeling more cramping. I really hope it doesn't come back full force..haha..but from what I understood sometimes you have to do a it a second time down the road.

momma2cuties -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/17/2008 9:41:19 AM)

Glad to hear it's been working for you.

My Dr. said they couldn't do it a second time. I was first going to have a Hysterectomy but then decided to try this first. She told me that after this was done and things were still the same then I had no others options left...

agapetos -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/17/2008 9:58:56 AM)

The younger you are when you have an ablation, the higher the possibility that you will start to have periods again. I think different surgeons and different methods will give different opinions on whether it's possible to have a second ablation.

If a woman does have periods again, they're often much lighter than they had been before the op.

It will be worth checking (if you ever start to get really heavy periods again) current research to see if there are different treatments on offer ~ your doctor may be a doctor, but that doesn't stop us from doing our own research! And, while frustrating as it may be to have periods again (even heavy ones) it may be worth taking into account your age and considering if it's worth a hysterectomy if you're close to menopause.

momma2cuties -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/17/2008 1:42:02 PM)

Well, I'm 28 and no were near menopause. I hope! LOL I've had period problems my whole life and I've been told my many different dr.'s I would be lucky to make it to 30 without a hysterectomy. I'm just trying to hold off as long as I can.

I was thinking that was the case. I would like to have no periods, but then again I also probably want to have children some day.

Brooke313 -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/28/2008 12:05:19 PM)

I had novasure in May of 2007. It did not stop my periods, however, they are so much better than they were before. Before, I was afraid to leave the house during my period and this went on for days at a time. Now, it is much more near normal. 3-5 days and light bleeding. I am glad I had this done as opposed to afull-blown hysterectomy.

campfan -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (4/30/2008 2:40:20 PM)

If your going to have children...the ablation should not be an option. I am done with my baby making and had already had a tubal. My next step was to have the hysterectomy and I really do not want to do that if at all possible.

sallysmithers -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (5/9/2008 8:07:46 PM)

I had the Novasure done almost 2 weeks ago. I had light spotting for about 10 days. That's not the problem. I am so emotional and feeling really depressed since I had that done. Is that normal?

agapetos -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (5/10/2008 1:31:49 PM)

Any operation can leave you feeling emotional and depressed, so yes. Added to this is the fact that the op is similar to a hysterectomy in that a woman has to consider herself unable to have children any longer. Regardless of whether she actually wanted (more) children or not, many women do have some problems dealing with the finality of it.

MrsLavender -> RE: NovaSure Ablation (5/12/2008 12:00:25 PM)

I had an ablation in November and I am so happy that I had it done. I had one light period in December but nothing since then. I have 4 children already and I am 49 years old so I am not having any more children. I was having such dangerously heavy bleeding that my doctor suggested the ablation. I have had no second thoughts or remorse about it.

I was told that same thing numerous times and I'm 43 and still have my uterus.

My SIL just had her ablation done about 2 months ago and is grateful she did.

I'm considering one.
