Eliana -> Pictures of our baby! (4/26/2008 2:07:19 PM)

Well, we are finally home from the hospital and life as we knew it has changed forever. [:)] It's wonderful getting to know this little guy.

We've made some pictures of Hjalmar available on this web site.

The learning curve has been quite steep, and I'm so grateful that my husband is a fully hands-on dad. The hardest thing has been getting the hang of breastfeeding, and DH actually got the knack of how Hjalmar should latch on earlier than I did. I didn't know that something "natural" would not actually come naturally. The nurses and midwives were incredibly helpful, and for the first days we had to ring the "help" button at literally every feed, for one of them to come and help us get Hjalmar latched on right. They would tirelessly come and help us out, and we got the hang of it in the end, thank God!

Oh my gosh he's beautiful Eliana!!

Can I ask what ethnicity you and dad are? Hjalmar has a beautiful set of features, so smooth and NOT newborn baby looking, he's a little man's man!!

And can I just say I ADORE baby hands and finger nails. So tiny and perfect.

He's a keeper for sure!

He's so perfect!

Look at those chubby cheeks! And that hair!
What a beautiful little boy.

What a cutie!

Yeah, breastfeeding can be a struggle. Sounds like you're going to get through the hard part though.

Adorable truly adorable. Love the cheeks and jealous of all that hair! You did a wonderful job.

What a cutey! I love his hands. He has big hands!

Thanks for all the lovely comments! [:)] To answer your question, Brandy, I'm black and my husband is white. I guess that explains his colouring. Our little boy definitely gets his big hands and feet from my side of the family.

Being new parents is something that has to be experienced to be fully understood! We wouldn't trade it for anything, despite the seemingly constant exhaustion and endless loads of laundry and chores which never seem to be quite done. All of these are just evidence of the incredible blessing God has given us. [:)]

We've ended up going out with DS much earlier than I had thought! The day after we came home, we went out for a walk. The day after that, we had an appointment to take DS to the hospital so they could check on his bilirubin levels, which had caused some concern. In one of the pictures we posted, he actually looks rather yellow, but he's more pink now. We'll be going back tomorrow so they can have a final check. We're praying that he'll be given the all-clear.

Eliana - what a beautiful little boy - he's absolutely precious!! Congrats again and I hope that breastfeeding will continue to improve =)

Brandy -> RE: Pictures of our baby! (4/27/2008 1:41:43 PM)

I hope he gets the all clear too.

I was wondering if there was any Asian mix in you guys, but I guess the Bili levels explain that away. He definitely looks like a little cappuccino baby to me now that I know it's the bili levels. He's going to be a handsome adult man some day.

And what is with the babies and their hair around here? All the new ones have gobs of hair! I love it. Gives me hope for my little one. Husband was bald as can be and I had a massive amount when I was born, I just hope we get a good mix.

ETA: I used "decent" instead of "mix" at first behind Asian and realized "decent" was the WRONG word [:)]

He is adorable Eliana! He looks like such a cute little man! I agree with Brandy, he doesn't have that newborn look! He is absolutely beautiful!

I also love all the hair! I'm hoping for some hair on my babe, but neither I nor DH had much at all at birth. I'm still holding out some hope though!

Congratulations on your precious little guy!

We've just come back home after a week-long stay in the hospital. Our son had a bacterial infection that needed to be treated intravenously. He was really brave through all the unpleasant things he had to go through -- having the IV inserted (four failed and two successful attempts) and blood tests every day.

We thank God he's much better. He's got oral medicine now and we'll take him for a checkup next week.

How soon can we expect him to have some kind of a routine? And should we wake him up to feed him or just wait until he wakes up on his own?

I feel for you. My first child spent two two in the neo-natal intensive care unit for the first two weeks of his life, and I know how scary it is.

When he was in hospital, did you stay there all the time? What happened regarding feeding while you were there?

It can take a while to feel like you're in some kind of routine, but especially after a "hiccup" like that. It probably wasn't till my ds was at least 6 weeks old that he began to get into a bit of a routine. He was definitely in one by the time he was 3 months old though.

How is your son doing now?
