Thank You Julie, yes I read some will read more, having a fish crisis yesterday ( do not ask to strange lol) about that time another story. My breast are as you described yours. The girls having a lift would be great. I imagine lifiting a baby would be hard, but we moms do what we have too. May God bless you with much grace today.[:)]

Hi, lightshineon. I'm having the reduction surgery next Thursday (yay!!!!!!!) and am very excited about it. I've tried losing weight but no matter how much I lost, I couldn't get down to a "normal" size. I've got back pain really bad and just couldn't stand it anymore. It took a long time to find the right doctor and to get the insurance authorization, but the Lord has answered prayers and it's almost here. I don't have time to explain everything right now, but feel free to PM me. I'll be back later, I'm sure. Also, there was a thread on this a few months ago.

I had one about 3 years ago. It made a difference in my self esteem, my clothes fit better and I get less attenting in that way. The recovery wasn't hard for me just sleeping on my back was hard because I wasn't use to it.
I hardly has any pain just mostly itching when it was healing. Yes, I have scars but I've seen some others with a minimum amount(it depends on the surgeon).

I would do it again. My surgeon didnt want to take too much off because I hadn't had children yet. Once I lose the amount of weight I want I'm actually have to have another because I'm a DDD now. My shoulders are still rounding. I should've insisted on him taking off more but I was trying to trust what he said.

My cousin also had it done and was very happy. I had a friend who had it done and was happy only too much were taken off but her scarring was the best. Her scars looked like small scratches. I can't see my scars unless I hold them up.

Hesallineed, I don't know if you read the other posts on here but if you are wanting to breastfeed definitely check out the website www.bfar.org and see if you can get the book Defining Your Own Success: Breastfeeding After a Reduction by Dian West. She also has another book coming out soon. I'm all set to breastfeed my second after having my surgery. Any day now. Yep. Soon as this kid comes out I'm ready to go for it. (poke poke poke) Come on kid, let's go!

You don't want to lift your arms for at least 2 to 3 week or until you've started healing some because it stretches your scars. I believe the large size my surgeon left me at actually stretched my scars.

I could get up and walk about in 2 days. The anethesia had to wear off. Walking was fine. Scars are underneath(from one end to the other), then going from bottom to my n-pple and around the middle(n-pple)(I hope I can say that) but it depends on how your surgery is done. They recommended a sports bra which is what I wore for a while. But it would itch around the bottom where I was cut. Sometimes I got frustrated and took it off even once at work and they just sat up there as if I had a bra on. I was amazed. Of course I can't do that now. They fallen and can't get up(LOL!)

Thanks Julie, because I had trouble breastfeeding so I gave up. If I have another baby I would like to breastfeed. It's not that I couldn't get milk out but she couldn't latch on. My nipples are the same as they were before I had the surgery. Meaning they look the same and feel the same. I'll go to that site.

Have you looked at some of the pictures online? It'll give you an idea of what you can look forward to. The really neat thing is you'll be able to wear smaller bras and, for me, that means more lift. I have to buy mine from specialty stores and they don't give me much shape. Even my newer ones don't hold up for long. One question I have is that mine are wide, and I wonder if they'll fit into normal bras after the surgery.

Y'know, I don't know the answer to that, but it reminds me of something a friend told me. Your mammograms will look MUCH different after the surgery. She said there will be numerous calcifications that will show up as white spots all over the xray. Basically it just means that the doctor has to look more carefully and start with a base-line mammogram. I'll have to see if I can get more info on that.

I am new to this forum and found it by Googling "regrowth after breast reduction"! I had my reduction 13 years ago when I was 25. By the time I was 29, they had regrown. Several years and two children later, I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon to see if I should have another reduction (and lift) and will my insurance pay for it? I didn't pay one penny for the first one, that was great! As far as breast feeding, I only produced minimal milk and had to suppliment with formula. I gave them what I had for three months though! So, if my insurance will pay for it, I will undergo the knife again. Heck, at 37, a reduction equals a lift!!!

I don't know if your insurance will pay for it, it depends on their view of the surgery. You'll have to contact them or have your doctor do it for approval.

When you tried to breastfeed before did you take anything to up your supply? There are a lot of things out there that help increase a low milk supply and each time you nurse a child your supply increases as well. You can check out www.bfar.org for more info.

My appt next week with the surgeon is to see if they feel that insurance would pay for it. I didn't take anything to increase my milk supply. At first, my first born was starving without me knowing it! Poor skinny little thing. I'm past babies now and I don't regret my surgery one bit!

Welcome to Forums Kerrieanne!

I'd probably not go with what they "feel" insurance would pay, they can get preapproval to see if it's covered or you yourself can call to find out.

I agree. Call the insurance company and talk to somebody about what procedures they will cover. They will only cover breast reduction if it's medically necessary. When you call, find out what it is they are looking for. With my insurance, they wanted to see that we had tried conservative measures to alleviate back pain (my primary symptom). With other insurance companies, the rash might be primary. Once you know, you might go to your primary care doctor and he/she might be the one to initiate the request (it was in my case). Both your doctor and the plastic surgeon will have to write letters. Depending on your insurance, make sure you have documentation that your primary symptom is caused by your breast size. (Each insurance company is different, so this is just a guide.)

After my experience, I think it is really important to take into consideration just exactly what is being done w/ an insurance paid surgery. The purpose is to remove the bulk of the tissue. It changes the cup size & that is all. There is no restructuring of the breast what so ever. Since I've had difficulty dropping weight, it is hard to find a bra to fit me. In the upper right quadrant - right breast & upper left quadrant - left breast, it is hard for me to fill the cup due to lack of tissue. I will have to lose a lot of weight in order for my new "b" cup to fit proportionally to an appropriate "b" bra. Your boobs are in no way beautiful afterwards. Yes, they are lifted for sure, but to me they look like two deflated balloons! You have head light syndrome for a long time (nipples sticking out).

So, it's important to fully understand that this insurance paid surgery is for your health only & not anything else. You would have to pay out the ying yang to make your boobs pretty! kd

Well, I'm six-weeks post surgery and things are going well. The swelling has gone down and the shape has stayed the same, and I think it looks very natural. As far as the lift, oh yeah! They're just now beginning to drop ever so slightly -- if I had a husband, he would be pleased. Was this worth it? Absolutely!! I did have some complications, but the Lord was good and now it's over and it's as if nothing had ever happened! [:)]

It's only six weeks since the surgery and I have almost full range of motion with my arms and I am beginning to lift heavier bags of groceries (but still being careful). And I'm putting lotion on the scars once or twice a day... any lotion I like. The doctor said Mederma wasn't any better, though it's more expensive. Overall, I'm getting back to normal at home and at work.

Thank you, Julie. Your posts had been really encouraging for me before I had it done. Yeah, things are different... like I can give people real hugs and I don't have to move them out of the way whenever I want to do something like eat. I feel "normal" for the first time in a very long time.

So have you had your baby yet? (Forgive me, I don't read a lot of the women's threads)

Yeah, isn't it amazing about the hug thing!!! I was amazed at how close I could get to my hubby all the sudden. [:)]

Yes, my baby finally arrived, only 7 days late this one, on April 28. He's such a good little guy it's amazing, we're really blessed.
