My kids are on Spring Break this week; I'm sure some of you are or were last week or next or soon so I'm just wondering...how much and what kind of school work will you have your kids do during their break?

I really couldn't answer because my choice would have been something different. We did a lot of reading but nothing that was assigned - just for fun. The kids played lots of educational sorts of computer games and we played a number of board games that got them thinking. My eldest ds memorized his lines for his upcoming middle school musical, and my youngest dd worked on her young author's conference book. My youngest ds spent some time helping me plot out a new flower garden and assisted his dad in figuring out how long of a retaining wall we are going to need to put in. Our eldest dd did a bit of research to figure out how feasible a town wide recycling program would be and started some planning in that regard and read nearly non-stop the entire break. So while it wasn't school work per se, it was still educational in nature and the kids had a great time to boot!

Blessings,

Garsy

Our spring break was several weeks ago. I voted we took the whole week off, because that was the closest. But my son did read an AR book over break. He was reading anyway though, and read other stuff too. My middle daughter probably read several also, she's a big bookworm. She also is writing a story so I'm sure she worked on it.

Our spring break comes at the end of a grading period, and work is generally not assigned here.

B will be practicing soccer and the school musical this week. S and K will do some reading on their own because they love to read. K has discovered the "Junie B. Jones" and "Boxcar Children" series, so she can often be found reading another book in those series. S is becoming interested in "Nancy Drew" books.

I voted for "take the week off" because neither of them have assigned work over the Break, and we usually take the time for some fun and a break from school work. We do play a lot of educational and learning type games, but that's a regular part of our family times.

My dd has a couple of pieces of work to do over the break (she has 2 weeks off) - we'd have expected this, and she will incorporate it into her plans as usual.

We've been cooped up all winter. My kids will be OUTSIDE! (and reading before bedtime)

We've already had spring break (the week of March 17th)....

Our kids certainly took a BREAK...though, they do read alot on their own, and our "Spring Break" this year turned out to be full of learning opportunities (not that we planned it that way, it just happened)...as we went to San Antonio (the Alamo), Galveston (Sea Turtle facility and laboratory) and College Station.

We had spring break Easter week and no way would I make my kids do homework. MAybe if they were struggling with something, but come on, it's only a week.[sm=eek.gif]

Just for the record - I didn't require anything of my kids except that my eldest memorize his lines and my youngest work on her book. Anythings else was ALL of their own doing!

Gee, garsy... that sounds an awful lot like a week of homeschooling! [8D]

Yeah, I've been told that before! I can't help it that my kids are just super strange and love learning! I also didn't mention the HOURS my boys spent playing nonsense video games, nor the HOURS my girls spent fighting with each other over who's turn it was to be on the computer or the HOURS they all spent just running around outside with the neighbor kids! Oh and I also forgot to mention that it has taken me all of yesterday and much of today just to get all the toys and books and games and stuff all put back in the appropriate places, not to mention the washing of LOADS of laundry just due to the mud!

Spring break for us was the week after Easter. Dd was not assigned anything specifically for that week, but she has some long term projects due at the first of May that she did some research on.

Neither boy has any homework. Noah will be reading during nap/quiet time, and I'm sure they will play educational games without any prompting from me. I plan to work with Nick and Hannah, having Nick "teach" Hannah the letters and their sounds. He won't know he is doing review for himself, but he will be.[;)]

We hope to go the zoo one day next week, and that is always a learning experience, no matter how many times you go. And of course, lots of playing outside if the weather cooperates![:D]

We've actually been catching up on our music lessons and theory too. It has been much too busy with school plus practice.
