I predict...some new cast members.

Seriously, I think Martha might transfer from UNIT. But only if the writers back off on certain things.

I mentioned in the Dr. Who thread that it was a dark weekend for Sci Fi in the US, what with the higher than normal body count on Dr. Who (that was the US airing of the "Christmas special") and the "whoa! did she just do what I think I saw her do?" moment on Battlestar Galactica. And then the season finale of Torchwood.

I'm betting you won't get mad at me for a mere mention of other shows, Doinkdom!

Why would you say that?

I'm not too crazy about Martha, but I'm sure I'd get over it.

If the Unit is a show already, do you think we'll get it over here any time?

No thoughts on the season finale?

Come on people, wake up!

I thought it was one and then the other and then realized it was gonna be BOTH!

I think I indulged a tear or two.

So, what about next season? what's gonna happen?????

I was annoyed that they killed Tosh. Owen is well gone, especially if they replace him as team MD with Martha, which sure seemed like what they were setting up during the three episodes she was in. That just creates the question of who the new computer geek will be. Maybe that Cardiff PD officer friend of Gwen's is a computer genius on the side.

I liked Tosh, too. I think I cried when she told Owen she loved him in her video at the very end.

That was just so sweet.

I dunno who they'll get as the geek, but I hope it's someone that's really geeky and not just goofy.

You're probably right about Martha now that I think about it.

Everything is rumors at this point...since the rumors contain major spoilers for Doctor Who, I'm labeling this as *SPOILERS* and not even attempting the white font. You've had your warning.

******* It's rumored that there will be new characters. The doctor for the team will be a new blond lady. I think she will be a little dorky, if I remember correctly. Then the computer geek will be a guy, who may be a little chubby, if I also remember correctly. But as I said, these are only rumors...it's also rumored that Martha and Mickey (since he will be returning from the alternate dimension with Rose and Jackie) from Doctor Who will be replacing them. I doubt that will happen, since if Martha comes on...she'll have to be one of the lead characters, and not much of a supporting role. I would prefer new characters. Although it would be nice to see Martha get sick of Gwen and give her a good slapping.*****

Oh, but you can love both BSG's!

I'm not a huge Martha fan either, but I could grow to like her.

would that not be marvelous!?!?!?!?

I tried with BSG early on and my husband summed it up pretty well for both of us...why do I to have sit through all this graphic junk (sex) just to see something blow up in space?

It's just not the same having Apollo a girl or Cylon or whatever...

No no... Starbuck's the girl, Boomer (who is a short asian girl instead of a tall black man) is the Cylon, and is also named Athena in one of her incarnations... but now Tigh is a Cylon too. Apollo just hates his dad... or maybe he doesn't this week. And Baltar has a Cylon in his head... or maybe he's just halucinating to go along with his messianic psychosis... or maybe.....aaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

Seriously, I'm glad this is the last season. I've never been all that thrilled with the new series (my brother is a fan, so I watch it with him), but as far as I'm concerned it jumped the shark about the time the whole New Caprica storyline started.

Eesh, whatever Torchwood's flaws, I'll take it over the new BSG... At least I can follow the plot without a scorecard and a chart of the continuity bunnytrails!

'zactly!

I know many people have been devoted since the new BSG started, but I rather enjoyed SG1 and continue to enjoy Atlantis much more.

Add to that Doctor Who and Torchwood and my sci-fi ticket is nearly full.

SG1 was great, but lasted about two or three seasons too long. Atlantis has been really good, but I've got serious concerns about where it will be headed if the rumors about Amanda Tapping's replacement as commander are accurate.

Torchwood is a good show which would be a great one if Russell T. Davies didn't feel the need to use it as a propaganda platform for the gay lifestyle. Several of the best episodes of both seasons were nearly ruined because Davies felt the need to throw in completely gratuitous reminders that Jack will do it with anything that moves and shows even the slightest interest. I wish BBCA would run the toned down version that the Beeb started airing in England this year.

I know I heard someone else say there is a toned down version of Torchwood, but I think America loves her debauchery and if we can blame it on someone else (like the BBC) then so be it. Any excuse...

I haven't been keeping up with rumors about Amanda Tapping...I think there was a recent release of direct-to-DVD SG1 movie, but I'm not certain of that.

The only thing I remember is that the actors for Dr. Jackson and T'ealc formed a company (maybe production but not sure) that I was hoping would come out with some new sci-fi stuff.

Amanda's contract (which was a leftover from SG1) expired and the rumor is that Woolsey will be appointed as the new commander to appease the IOA.

The direct to DVD SG1 movie is called "The Ark of Truth". It's was filmed shorty after the TV series wrapped, and it's pretty good.

Wait a minute, you're a fan of Torchwood, and you're accusing BSG of to much sex? Seriously? Actually, I didn't get into BSG until Season 2, but my hubby has been into it since the beginning.

I have mixed feelings about Torchwood, so I only watch here and there. I did like Atlantis, but got fed up when Weir was replaced. Oh I know Dr. Weir had her problems, but there were other issues going on with Atlantis. My favorite character leaving was just the last straw.

I don't think it was one or the other. Both shows' producers seem to think that they need over-the-top, gratuitous sexual content to give the show more of an edge... as if the over-all premise of both shows isn't potentially edgy enough on its own.

Yo', you got a problem wif dat?

It was my hubby who said that...I just liked the earlier series much better.

I still like Stargate Atlantis though

This is turning into a general Sci-Fi thread, not that I have a problem with that. I'm just waiting for someone to bring up Robin Hood, since they show about a million commercial for the new season.

So was last week the last Torchwood of the season? Do we know when the new season starts?

I don't think they've announced when Series 3 of Torchwood will start filming, let-alone airing. My guess, if I had to make one, would be that Series 3 will air in early spring of `09. But with the BBC's odd ways of deciding when to air things, and the fact that Doctor Who's semi-hiatus will probably give Davies more time to focus on Torchwood, it's hard to say what will actually happen until someone at the Beeb leaks it.

BSG does sometimes have objectionable content, but it's more intended to fit the storyline than I think Torchwood's is. Torchwood's objectionable content is all tied up with Russell T. Davies being obsessed with creating the first gay/omnisexual hero on a scifi show, and that's why we get the overkill.

Jack needs to be injected with something to calm his overactive phenomes, so that everyone with whom he comes into contact won't find him absolutely irresistible. It's been ridiculous since day one.

I thought I just got through with season one of Torchwood?

Was it Season 2 and if so, they must've shown them fairly close together here.

If the season you saw had a three episode guest appearance by Martha, and a major cast shake up in the last episode, it was Series 2. If the season ended with Jack hearing the TARDIS materialize and taking off running, that was Series 1

The rumors over at Outpost Gallifrey said that Martha was going to be in Torchwood next season, and that Jack's role will be cut back some. I'd love to see Mickie in there too. The finale blew me away, I was shocked at Tosh's death, figured Owen would die because he had already done that this season. When he was loosing it in the room and Tosh started to cry, wow. Can't wait for episode 4 of Who this weekend.

Yes, it was the finale of season two in the US. And, yes, we did see the seasons less than a year apart. We've been playing "catch up" with the UK, since we were just a few weeks behind on Torchwood and will be about three weeks behind on Doctor Who (the first season of the new series didn't show here till almost a year after the UK airing).

Oh, I totally forgot to mention this last week.

Nice little vague shout out to the Doctor Who TV movie in the second-to-the-last Torchwood Episode. I kept hoping that they'd show San Francisco on the New Years eve broadcast, but of course the UK would be ahead of us here in the States. Still, Jack could have come in the next morning, laughing about how Y2K had been such a big deal, only to find his crew dead...and San Francisco celebrating the New Year's could have been on the TV in the office.
