Do you talk to people you know IRL about things that happen here?

I do sometimes, but it's a very rare occasion. I don't think they would understand it.

to a select few people I do. Not to just anyone, but I'll mention people to my closest offline friends.

If I'm relaying a story from someone on here I might tell it and just say, "an online friend....."

I tried to explain some of the XT nonsense to RL friends to get them to join, but I just blathered and it scared them off lol. I have three good online friends that I mention to my friends here, but that's it.

As to the OP, yes I do.

I might make a general reference of "the threads" or I might make a specific reference of a poster.

In the beginning when I started talking about y'all, I'd get some weird looks.

Then offline people slowly became adjusted to that fact that these threads are as much a part of my real life as they, my offline friends, are.

The very critical turning point was almost 3 years ago when my husband took his life. There was such an outpouring from y'all here in the threads that it literally spilled over into and merged "offline": y'all collectively sent white roses to CS's memorial service and one of y'all even sent a letter to be read by my pastor during the service. It just doesn't get any more REAL than that.

I have met some of y'all, and my offline friends always want to know about it afterwards.

They also ask about certain posters here; How is so-and-so doing? They also pray for y'all when I ask them to.

I may relate a story or two to my real life friends about my online friends. I do talk with my mom a good deal, but she posts here too. When I talk to DH he always has to clarify "Now is this a real friend or a computer friend." He just doesn't get that y'all ARE real friends too.

Aww c'mon. You mean you don't sit home all day creating all these different people in your head and giving them all these varied lives?

I have a pretty active imagination, but I'm not sure it's quite that good... and honestly, I couldn't even imagine some of the stuff I've read in M&E and Theology!

That would certainly require an active imagination.

I don't refer to my online friends as such. I refer to my online friends as my friends. Cuz ya are.

I can count my closest friends on one hand. Literally. There are five.

And three of them are posters here.

You probably realize that CW is in the public domain and may be read by anyone in the world without signing up to be a member. Also, on a search engine you can get posts on these forums among the results to your search. This has happened to me more than once.

I realized this when I did a search for armydude and it brought me here. To a thread I used to post in a LOT.

Sharon-Marie, I had had no idea that this had happened to you(((((((hugs))))))). I knew you were a widow, but did not know the circumstances. I'm sorry. Hence, your screen name? I always liked your screen name, but I see its even deeper meaning now.

{{{OneOfHisJewels}}} Thank you for such a sweet note!

I came "here" back in 2001; and that's when I registered with my handle.

In fact, I knew many of y'all before I even met CS.

And being the yakker that I am, the meaning of my handle has come up a time or two (or three, four, etc.) over the years..

CLICK HERE to read one of the wonderful ways that y'all in the community loved and supported me during that time.

CLICK HERE to read about why I chose my handle.

(well, only if you want to). LOL

I usually (not always) refer to my friends here as simply my friends to folks "IRL" because most folks "IRL" don't get it. I honestly would never have thought you could truly be friends with folks online until I started making friends with so many of you all!

I tell anyone who's willing to listen about the friends I've made here. My friends here have walked with me through some very, very difficult times and my spiritual life has grown incredibly because of these friends. I took my husband on a trip last summer where we made a whirlwind trip through 12 states, meeting 13 friends from here. He's often asking how this or that one is and even hand painted some beautiful Christmas cards (without me asking) for three who impacted him the most. I've also had friends from here stay in our home and had the chance to introduce them to my church friends. I'm part of another internet community and when my son was travelling to Los Angeles for a conference, one of my friends there invited him to stay with him. The lines get pretty blurred too, when I connect with my friends who live in the same city as me more often online than off.

I talk about you all to my husband a lot, but rarely anyone else. They all tend to look at me as if I have two heads when I do, so I usually don't. Come to think of it, my husband looks at me strange sometimes when I talk to him about it too, but I like to just imagine he's entranced with my beauty or something.

I talk about you to a select few of my offline friends, and my immediate family. My family has now met one of you, and is convinced that that one is not an ax-murderer at least. My dad always goes into a panic when I meet someone from here, even if it is someone that Ellie-Lisa has met too.

So who is NOT the ax-murderer? That would be good to know.

Not a very glowing recommendation for Ellie-Mae.

BlessedMamaofMany is not an ax-murderer. Nor are cindybode, his_chosen, ezri, or Ellie-Mae, of course. (I feel like I am forgetting someone...if I am, please forgive me!)
