Brandy, where did you get your info? I absolutely love Captain America and hope there is a well-done movie that has an actual American hero and a story line that doesn't pander to the far left liberal sissies.

Actually, the Ultimate series had Nick Fury joking that he'd be played by Samuel L. Jackson a while back. He really does look just like him.

I can't say enough about how good this movie was, so I won't try. :)

Iron Man is a flawed moral character (women and booz and arrogance), but does slowly move towards redemption and change and moral responsibility throughout the film.

He's not a perfect role model, but man-o-man, those special effects totally rocked! Loved the movie.

The only way a Captain America movie would be good was if they set it in the 1940s and directed it in the style of a film from that era. That would be cool, but I doubt they'd ever do that.

Henny,

I agree. A kind of throwback style would be really sweet.

What would you think something akin to 'Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow'? I absolutely loved that movie and I think Cap would come off wonderfully in that kind of film.

You almost have to have Captain America set in a WWII timeframe. I would be highly skeptical of a "modernized" Cap, though if they had him going after Osama that might be cool ;)

Last I read (yesterday) McConaughy is in the works for Capt. America.

Favreau owes Downey BIG TIME.

This is one of the best comic book movies ever made - why? It has real actors. Not pretty faces from the WB.

There were a lot of "Yeah, right." moments (so baldy's all MAKE THE BOMB because he sees they're not working, but then stops watching them?) and some predictable bits, and it felt a little long, but overall was pretty seamless. Good sdtk., too. Didn't rely on lame, flash-in-the-pan pop songs (thanks to Hans Zimmer). I appreciated the lack of graphic/gratuitious violence (and sex).

Also loved the faux Christiane Amanpour.

And the trailer for Hamlet 2!!

The Dude abides.

The only part of the score that I didn't care for was the scene when Tony was breaking out of the cave. I was so hoping to hear Sabbath's 'Iron Man' during that part like was played during some of the trailers. At least they played it during the credits.

I loved Sky Captain too.

I actually thought of that exact film when the new Superman movie was coming out. I hate Superman (he's a boring non-character) and I hated "Superman Returns," but it would have been really cool if they had done Superman like they did Sky Captain -i.e. like the Superman cartoons from the 1940s.

I for one thought it was as good as "Batman begins." Just a good piece of film.

We thoroughly enjoyed Ironman. It was a good movie, but make sure you stay through the end credits. Alot of people left in our theater and missed the alternate ending. Even though I like the first ending better, which I am sure was polled by screeners.

"That film, now titled "The First Avenger: Captain America," is slated for release in May 2011, to be followed by "The Avengers," based on a team of Marvel heroes that has included Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, in July of that year."

...Am understanding right that there will be an Iron Man 2 and Capt America and Thor movies then to all be followed up with "The Avengers" featuring all thee of them? That would be cool. I haven't seen anything about Thor but if that's true about Matthew McConnoughey being Capt America is cool, I think that sounds great! And the the two of them together for the Avengers would be cool!

I'm not a huge comic book fan (dh is). But I enjoy these movies (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em). If they're going to put these characters together, obviously, they can't set Captain America in the '40's. I think they could make Captain America work in a contemporary storyline quite well, though.

I saw the trailer for the new Hulk too. I love Edward Norton. I'm just a child of the '70's (and not a comic book fan) so the monstrous freaky Hulk is still a bit much for me. Dh insists that's the way it's supposed to be and I'm sure he's right. If they could've made Lou Ferrigno that big they would've. Now they've got the technology to do more with him. It's just a bit over the top for me. We'll see.

I saw Iron Man Friday and I loved it. I might see it again before it leaves the theater.

I commented, as we were leaving, how glad I was they did not use the lame, cliche, beyond obvious lyrics to Iron Man (the Sabbath song). It's a great song, and was used really well, there, complimenting the punch of an ending.

My husband and I went to see Iron Man on Saturday. We both really enjoyed the movie. The only negative was a couple brought their baby into the theater (sat about two rows behind us) and the baby cried through at least half of the movie. We actually had to get up and move.
But as I said- the movie was great, even if the experience left a little to be desired...

We had a baby too! ARGH. Nevermind the inconsideration, it's just bad parenting. The sound level, first of all...bah. That's exactly why I rarely go to the movies.

Anyways, not doing the proverbial cliche like using Iron Man (the song) in the movie is a prime example of what sets Iron Man apart from other Marvel movies (going along with having real actors, etc.).
