Hi Ginny, I haven't seen you around in a little while!

vmginny -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/23/2008 10:23:11 PM)

April 14th I am going to be tried in court at a trial. April 21 I go again to be tried in court for another trial.

Please pray about these trials.

I don't know how many of you know the trials my family have gone through. In 1995 my 15 year old daughter gave birth to our grandson. In 1996, when my grandson was 6 months, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's, a lymphoma cancer. All 3 of my sons acted up with the oldest getting into drugs and the middle one with stealing. The youngest was 4.

In 1996 4 months before my husband was diagnosed I was diagnosed as hypothyroid. It was great finding out why I struggled so with illnesses and overwhelming fatigue. And it was just in time to be able to tackle getting my husband to go for doctor visits. We had a lot of emotional tension in the family and I was the main one to take care of everyone. The state we live in, we are alone, just my husband and kids.

The years were difficult and more so because while my husband was fighting cancer I went back to college to improve my chances of employment. I earned my bachelor degree in 2003. Anyway the beginning of that year I began to break down mentally. I had kept the finances up but had borrowed to pay expenses and take care of hubby's needs, and our four children and the grandson. I was ill for a long time finally my husband was in remission and he put me in a psych ward at our local hospital. I was there 3 months then released but not well. By court order I was sent to a hospital and a psych ward 2 hours from home for 6 weeks of electric shock treatments.

I was diagnosed bipolar psychotic. It took time to find the right dosage of medication to make me well. My mom thinks I am not really bipolar that I had my breakdown because of all the stresses. Dad is going through cancer now and mom and dad took care of my brother when he was dying of cancer so they know the stresses in being a caretaker.

When I was mentally ill my husband did not pay on the credit cards I used to take care of him and they became seriously delinquent. When I finally came home from the psych ward it took time to become normal and then I was looking for a job. I've had my job for one year but it is not secure. The first thing I did was begin paying a hefty student loan. I tired to make payment arrangements with the credit card companies but they laughed at me. I tried explaining to them that I was not mentally capable of doing anything before I began talking to them and they wouldn't listen.

The trials are from being served by two creditors. I've prayed about this. My husband and I went to a credit counseling agency before I got my job and she told us to go for bankruptcy. Hubby didn't want to do this. Since I've been served I've gone to a lawyer and hubby is now willing to claim bankruptcy but it is more difficult now. We've gone to a credit counseling agency again, it is required by law and again the counselor told us there is no way we can pay back this debt even with my job. It's just gotten too much with all the interest that has accumulated over time.

The bankruptcy would stop the trials but it can't be filed until after the court dates I go for trial. A judgment will probably be placed on me.

I wish my husband had taken care of these things while I was too sick to do so but I can't change that he didn't. I have to face what is.

Would you pray for me?

Thanks,
Ginny

Hi Mike, I've been around reading some but not really posting.

There has been quite a few things on my plate.

I posted the last post in the chat thread but Leah thought I should start a thread here as it is a bit heavy for chat.

Nice to see you and thanks for already saying hi.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/23/2008 10:27:26 PM)

Will be praying for you Ginny!

Thanks Mike.

Ginny, I will be praying about this. And maybe I was being a little hasty in saying it was too heavy for chat . . we certainly do share prayer requests in there. But I do think it will have a better chance of getting more ppl praying about it. And it certainly is a matter in need of prayer.

Having it in TWO places means even MORE prayer!

Hey Ginny! I'm praying.

vmginny -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/24/2008 12:00:46 AM)

I mentioned that my job is not secure. It is very possible it will end in June when my contract for this fiscal year is up.

My husband is in remission for his cancer at least the doctor thinks he still is but his health has not been good and he has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. His platelet count is very very low and he bleeds. The doctor told us he probably won't live to see our youngest graduate from high school which is in 3 years.

God has blessed me. When I was recovering from the bipolar the turning point for me was when I finally died. When I say died I mean I gave up my mind to God and said it was his for whatever he wanted to do. I liked to describe it as lending back and letting go just completely letting go of my life to him.

I rested in God's will. And he took over.

Working has been like that too. Many many times I've had to just turn over to Him situations that have come up and rest in Him. The peace I have is in trusting in the Lord. It doesn't mean that at times my thoughts don't churn and become uneasy but what it does mean is I know where to take them when they do.

Leah and Maggie have helped me a great deal by being my friends and sisters in Christ. They've supported me and prayed for me and by doing so given me strength.

I am blessed.

Ginny

I'm reading a book called "Head and Heart: American Christianities" by Garry Wills. How "Christian" is America.

My understanding of the America's beginnings is we were founded on religious freedom but I'm learning by reading the book that this is not so. It seems the Puritans were very prejudice on who could be free or not. A small elect that were members of the church and under grace could be public servants, leaders in the government and the rest were outside the box of approval. You couldn't vote unless you were a member of the church.

The book starts out with the execution of Mary Dyer. She was executed because as a Quaker she was not allowed to even come into the territory of Massachusetts and she kept doing so. Seems Quakers were exiled and on threat of death if they came into the state and many were hanged because they wouldn't stop coming back to make a point for religious freedom.

Learned more about Quakers too at least their early history. Found out why they got the name of Quakers. They would shake and quiver during their services and subsequently were named Quakers. They believed in an 'inner' light.

The fear of the devil was predominant and making sure the devil did not have reign plus so much was contributed to the devil's work. "Witches were executed in Virginia and Maryland in 1659, and trials and penalties occurred in New York, Pennsylvania, and the Carolinas. Yet there is no denying that seventeenth-century New England was witch-obsessed, with an exceptionally virulent spasm in Salem Village during the year 1692."

Here is how the book describes the people by concentric rings in a circle:

The innermost ring is the "Saved". The next is the "protestant heresy" all who were not under grace, could not vote, be in public service, etc. but were expected to pay taxes, tithe, attend church, and obey the rulings of the church and government. The next ring is "Papalism", then "Indian Idolatry", then "African Idolatry", then "Pagan Idolatry", and finally "Satan".

African Americans were considered property and not wholly human but a subhuman species under the curse of Cain or Ham. It was imperative they be converted to the Puritans teachings of God. Indians were lost in darkness and worshiped the Devil. It was imperative they be converted too but Catholic faith was a form of the devil influence and being Catholic was outside the box of salvation.

It is interesting to read about what was truly going on in the early centuries of America. Seems it was not the Pilgrims that taught tolerance but actually the King of England who broke the charter with Massachusetts because of all their intolerance and the King spoke up for tolerance of other faiths. This is not what was in my understanding. I didn't realize there was so much intolerance in our founding fathers.

Wow, Ginny! I knew a bit of that but not much. I think it would be interesting to read other books on the subject to see if they agree. I wonder if the author of this book has an ax to grind, a point to make whereby he's changing things or giving a biased slant.

magdaleine -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/24/2008 8:43:53 PM)

I'm doing some searching about the book.

"Wills is a liberal Catholic and an outspoken champion of the separation of church and state." Washington Post review on Amazon.com

In a review following that, the reviewer states that Wills argues "that the Bush II administration poses the greatest threat ever to disestablishment" and he sees "abortion as a nonreligious issue."

In a review of another of this author's books, the reviewer says, "Wills explains that the gospels are not historically true."

I guess I would be cautious about reading anything written by this author and if reading, I would want to verify what he says through other authors I trust.

leah777 -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/24/2008 9:21:52 PM)

I'd heard some of this before too, but it was from an individual, not a book. And I knew that individual as a non-believer, and as someone with an axe to grind, so I didn't pay much attention. I know that not all of our founding fathers were as 'holier than thou' as some history books would have us believe, but I do believe it was began as a Christian nation -- as I understand it, Protestants who wanted to be able to 'choose' their mode of worship as they were not allowed to do in England at that time. So your research was a relief to me, Maggie [;)]

It does sound like an interesting book, Ginny.

BTW, I lost you this morning on MSN, and then had to close out and get busy with Garrett.

Hey Darlin'

I found your thread. Prayers will be going up for you. One day or minute at a time. [sm=heart.gif][sm=praying.gif]Ginny[sm=praying.gif][sm=heart.gif]

vmginny -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/25/2008 12:22:03 AM)

Thanks Marsha.

Well Maggie I wonder if I should read anymore of this book. I am only on page 51. I could read it then find another to see how it compares. I did wonder about the author and if he had an axe to grind. However he can't be untrue on the facts that Mary Dyer did die and many other Quakers did too as well as many people who were thought to be witches.

I have met many people who felt they were Christians who were intolerant of other people and other religions not their own. It is how I first heard the term that church is not a 'true' religion from a Baptist towards a Church of Christ, from a Lutheran towards a Baptist, etc. Confused me quite a bit learning that each denomination was different in their faith.

What the book shows me is the Puritans wanted a pure state one in which their beliefs were firm and the established way to go and were intolerant of another faith. Not much different than people wanting the Jehovah Witness to not throw their ideas of God into the mix or the Muslim, etc. I mean I don't want someone telling me I can't worship God as he has led me to by reading the bible and it would be nice to be surrounded by like people.

Tolerance means there is free will for all people to worship as they choose even if it is different from what we personally know is truth. The puritans simply wanted a state where their beliefs were the only one governing them and throw everyone else out of the state. I haven't gotten to the point in the book on why religious freedom was established instead.

There will be a lot of truth in the book, Ginny. It's what makes the author's biases believable.

vmginny -> RE: Ginny's Place: Life, Struggles, Joys, Praise, Thoughts (3/26/2008 8:34:05 AM)

I met with a member of my church last night. It was so good to talk about the trial and get his opinion and help. This member offered counseling session appointments last Sunday and I took him up on it. He has even offered to talk to his lawyer about my situation.

The above link is to a site with kids singing. I can't hear it on my computer someone gave it to me and I believe it would be funny to hear.

It was funny, Ginny. If you watched the video (without the sound) you saw all the words that were sung. The babies sang songs from the movie "Grease" with the words changed.

Ginny, that was too funny! I'll have to send it to some friends [:D]

I'm so glad you met with the couselor . . sounds like things are looking up a bit. God is still in control [sm=icon_smile.gif]

Thanks Marsha, Leah, and Maggie.

I was talking at work today with the new advisor and somehow we got on worry. She said she is a worry wart and I told her that I prayed about mine that I am worry wart too but God is working on me.

Wasn't sure if it was proper to speak about God in this office. I worked this morning at another campus. But oh well that's me. My life revolves around my relationship with Christ and it is going to come up in my conversations.
