Thanks Maggie and Mike. Its funny since I said something here about my neighbor's complaining he's not complaining as much anymore. Both of them are being very open about me reading the bible. The husband likes to make comments and share what he has learned at his church and through his reading of the readings at mass. I am making Russian Tea Cakes, a butter nut cookie. I got volunteered last week to help the cookie ministry our church has to provide cookies to first time visitors. Ginny

That's cool, Ginny! Both about the neighbour not complaining AND the cookie ministry. So what exactly happens with the cookies and first-time visitors?

Maybe when your neighbor starts complaining about his wife and her care you could praise him for some aspect of her care that he does. He might just feel overwhelmed and under appreciated. He probably could use some "attaboys".

That might be true Marsha. The visitors eat the cookies of course Maggie. Someone from church visits them and takes cookies. Thanks Mike.

No for some reason I was skipped but they did visit my daughter with cookies and she was impressed. Court is done got another continuance. The bankruptcy definitely needs to be filed sure hope my lawyer will do what he said he will do. Even though I am getting to be an old hat at going to court it is still a bit nerve racking to be there and knowing your name is going to be called.

O.k. here goes. For years while I was unemployed my husband refused to make a payment on the credit cards in my name that I took out to pay for medical expenses, his and mine but mostly his. Then one day, a knock on the door. I hear, "Mom, it's for you! There is a policeman at the door. You are going to jail! He..He." I go to the door and receive a summons to appear in court. I've been served. The next week the same thing happens for another card that has not been paid. I became employed last year. When I became employed my husband did agree to start making payments on my student loan so it wouldn't be in default and came out of deferment. My paycheck goes directly into our joint account but I do not have access to the check book unless my husband gives to it to me to use to buy groceries and he tells me the amount I am limited to for spending. For the credit cards we went to a consumer counseling agency and they said there was no way we could pay them back. A lawyer told me to just ignore the calls from the collection agencies. And I knew the counseling agency provided sound advice as what used to be a small amount had escalated to a huge amount with ithe nterest charged over the years I was unemployed plus the credit card companies said that such and such an amount had to be paid each month, an amount we could not afford. I did not however enjoy my family telling me I was going to jail nor enjoyed the teasing I received from them or the fact I got served and had to go to court. I contacted a bankruptcy attorney. The bankruptcy attorney began the process of gathering paperwork from my husband and I. Once again we had to go to a counseling agency. The same advice was given we did not have enough in our budget even with my job to pay back the credit cards not as much as they were now. The budget the agency worked out with us took some doing for us to have a balanced budget and it did not include what would be discharged in the bankruptcy. Next step, appear in court for each served notice. The first time I appeared in court was nerve racking.

Court appearance. The time for court was 9:00 am. I got there a half early. On the second floor of the courthouse is an open area with benches and a bulletin board. The board has the names of the judges, the courtroom they will hear their cases and a docket sheet. Since I got there early I was able to go through the docket and find my name without waiting in line. Since there are 80 or so names on the docket it does take time to find the number you are on the docket. Forewarned by my bankruptcy lawyer I knew that I could ask for a continuance. At 9:00 the courtroom opens and I take a spot on the benches provided. The judge appears and everyone is asked to stand then the judge asks the lawyers present if they have just one case to be heard or two cases. The lawyers who have this low number answer the judge and their cases are heard first. When your name is called which can be a while if there are a lot of cases ahead of you on the docket you have to raise your hand and say yes I am such and such. It was then that I asked for a continuance and received it. After my request is accepted the judge told me I could go home which I did. This I did for the next appearance in court. Now I have continuances to appear in court again, two more appearances, one for each served notice. Until my bankruptcy is filed I have to appear in court. I go back again for each one. This week the judge asked if I wanted a "recall". No one explains what this is but because I've been in court before I figured it out with noticing what others have done who were asked for a "recall". A recall allows you time to confer with your prosecuting lawyer. You have to wait until all the docket is called and then you in private confer with the lawyer who is representing the suer. One person Monday had to sign a judgement. I thought that would happen to me and I was praying hard about it because this person had to sign something in front of the judge and I knew I couldn't sign anything without an explanation and without knowing what it is I was signing. I didn't want to have to make a fuss in front of the courtroom. There were over a hundred people on the docket that day. But the judge was kind when I once again said I was claiming bankruptcy the judge continued the case for another day. I do need to have my bankruptcy filed and done before the continuance. It is imperative this gets done. There are more steps that have to be done after a bankruptcy is filed. You have to appear once again in court to meet with the creditors and this time court will be 2 hours away in a metropolitan city and hubby HAS to go too. Then both hubby and I have to do a financial management course online and all these things are time sensitive. It is time sensitive to get the bankruptcy filed and time sensitive to finish it. I will be glad when all of this is over. Meanwhile I do not know if I will have a job come July. My performance review should be soon but I have not been notified of when it will be. Ginny

I need all the prayers I can get. My daughter told me today that I can't talk about all the stuff my husband is buying for our son in front of my son as this makes my son feel I don't want buy stuff for him and it will ruin my relationship with my son. Ginny

I read 1 Kings chapter 8 this morning and it lifted up my soul starting my day out right. Yesterday at work my immediate supervisor gave me a job performance evaluation that I am supposed to fill out as my self-evaluation. If anyone knows me personally they would understand when I say I am horrible at evaluating myself. It is so much easier for me to see my faults and feel inferior to others than it is to talk up what I am doing good. I will usually undervalue myself. So I came home depressed last night. I needed the scripture this morning to put my thoughts back in the perspective they needed. However I find myself once again thinking I am inferior to this or that. I asked about a job opening I know of to someone who works in that department and they told me that it is a fast pace job with a lot of multi-tasking. And I think how well could I do that, am I capable? I compare myself with others and usually in my estimation they are better than me and it is hard for me to see how I am doing well. How do you know if you are capable of a position before you go for it and live it? How do you know if you are doing an excellent job, a good job or a poor job at the work place you are currently at if no one is there to watch and see what you are doing except yourself. I asked my work study students to evaluate me because I am around them the most and they gave me an excellent rating on the categories I have to fill out on my job performance. They hear me talk to students, they know how I have trained them, they see me working diligently throughout the day without supervision, etc. Should I go by their opinion or by my doubts? Ginny

{{{{{{{{{{{GINNY}}}}}}}}}}}} you certainly shouldn't go by your doubts! We all have doubts, but they cloud the real picture so much. I would say the students' evaluations would be a good guide. You should be able to pick out where they might have padded it a bit. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

THIS ONE IS FABULOUS!!! It was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to 'explain God.' I wonder if any of us could have done as well? That he had such an assignment, in California, and someone published it, I guess miracles do happen ! EXPLANATION OF GOD: 'One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.' 'God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.' 'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.' 'Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chu la Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.' 'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.' 'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.' 'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.' 'You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God! Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach, but sometimes fishing is acceptable cause fishermen pray a lot. 'If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.' 'But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. And...that's why I believe in God.'

STORY OF ELIJAH <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the steer in pieces, and laid it upon the altar. And then, Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times "Now, said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?" <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> A little girl in the back of the room started waving her hand, "I know! I know!" she said, "To make the gravy!" <o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on">LOT</st1:place>'S WIFE <o:p></o:p> The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when little Jason interrupted, "My Mummy looked back once, while she was driving," he announced triumphantly, "and she turned into a telephone pole!" <o:p></o:p> GOOD SAMARITAN <o:p></o:p> A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan, in which a man was beaten, robbed and left for dead. She described the situation in vivid detail so her students would catch the drama. Then, she asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?" A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I'd throw up." <o:p></o:p> DID NOAH FISH? <o:p></o:p> A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Ark</st1:place></st1:State> ?" <o:p></o:p> "No," replied David. "How could he, with just two worms?" <o:p></o:p> HIGHER POWER <o:p></o:p> A Sunday school teacher said to her children, " We have been learning how powerful kings and queens were in Bible times. But, there is a higher power. Can anybody tell me what it is?" One child blurted out, "Aces!" <o:p></o:p> MOSES &THE <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">RED</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">SEA</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> <o:p></o:p> Nine-year-old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday school. "Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Egypt</st1:place></st1:country-region> . When he got to the <st1:place w:st="on">Red Sea</st1:place> , he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then, he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved." "Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked. "Well, no, Mom. But, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never <o:p></o:p> believe it!" <o:p></o:p> THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD<o:p></o:p> A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible; Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the verse. Little Rick was excited about the task -- but, he just couldn't remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. <o:p></o:p> When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, "The Lord is my Shepherd, and that's all I need to know." <o:p></o:p> Church Smiles <o:p></o:p> There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten Commandments," answered the lady. <o:p></o:p> While driving in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Pennsylvania</st1:place></st1:State> , a family caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner of the carriage obviously had a sense of humor, because attached to the back of the carriage was a hand printed sign... "Energy efficient vehicle: Runs on oats and grass. <o:p></o:p> Caution: Do not step in exhaust.'' <o:p></o:p> Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about. The daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your quilt." Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about. He said "Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming." <o:p></o:p> Give me a sense of humor, Lord, <o:p></o:p> Give me the grace to see a joke, <o:p></o:p> To get some humor out of life, <o:p></o:p> And pass it on to other folk!

Last week I finally got my job performance review. Anticipating this review has been extremely hard for me as someone told me I wouldn't have a job afterwards that my director had someone lined up to take my place. Imagine my surprise when she passed me on all the sections as meeting requirements and even gave me an exceeds requirement in one area. Seem all the students I advise, the work study students I supervise, my co-workers all find me approachable, friendly, and helpful. And it should have been a relief to hear from her that I met requirements but instead I found that all the emotions came tumbling down and I was exhausted. So much has been expended in putting a new office together and putting together a new clinic, a new building and in knowing things without having someone to train me. By God's power answers came to me and when I felt 'How in the world am I going to do this?' I went to God for His help. I would say that what got accomplished was God's Hand upon me not me alone. There is no way I could have done what has been done on my own. And He has opened the doors for sharing with my neighbors. One of my neighbors came up to me yesterday and said, "I hear you have been reading the bible with xxxxxx." I said, "Yes, I have." and she said, "I would never have had the courage to know how to approach them and begin to do what you are doing." I said, "God is leading me." And He is blessing me and so are they in my consistent visits. Ginny

Wow, Ginny! So your visits to the one neighbour are being observed by the other neighbours--in a favourable way. And this second neighbour says what I say, "I wouldn't have known how to do that!" For someone who has lacked a great deal of self-confidence, you've done some amazing things in the last year. That's definitely God. I used you as an example for the woman I met on my walk who has bi-polar and has been hospitalized since December. She's not sure if she'll ever get better, despite the doctors' assurances she will. I told her how remarkable your recovery is and it gave her a lot of hope. So you not only touching your neighbours and the people at work but also people with whom you've had no contact. {{{{{{{{{Ginny}}}}}}}}} (by the way, I liked your jokes)

Thanks Maggie. I think only God knows for sure all the ways we affect another's life and how many lifes we are having an influence on. Didn't read the bible to the neighbor tonight. I am not going to push it if it isn't a good time for them then it isn't. The important thing is a relationship and another time will be right to read again. It was their daughter's birthday today, she turned 18 and she was there. We talked in my life group how can we work out our church motto 'Know God, Love People, Serve Both' and I told them it doesn't have to be some big thing we do all it has to be is a simple reaching out to others. I gave an example of me baking cookies for the 'cookie ministry' and of taking fruit over to the neighbor because I know she is having trouble eating and keeping things down and fruit seems to digest better than a full meal. All we have to do is work on hearing the prompting the Holy Spirit gives to do an action. Give a smile, say hello to someone, listen to a story. Ginny

This week I have been having trouble with exhaustion. The bankruptcy is finally getting filed, the job review has been done and the visits to a dying neighbor are all coming down on me emotionally. My dad has decided not to do any more chemo. He is 86 and is feeling better without the chemo and has decided that his life has more livability without it so now it is just a matter of time for the cancer or old age to take him home with the Lord. Hubby is having trouble with stomach pain. He is bleeding more rectally and his illness will progress. Don't know how long he will be able to function. Ginny
